The Cleveland Browns wrapped up No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson’s rookie deal late Monday, and Tuesday looks like it’ll bring a contract for fellow first-rounder Brandon Weeden.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Browns are “on the verge” of finalizing Weeden’s rookie contract. The sides reportedly spoke into the night on Monday and hope to put on finishing touches today.
Weeden has been hoping for a fully-guaranteed four-year contract. The Browns preferred to guarantee the first three seasons of the deal. In all likelihood, they’ll meet in the middle.
Weeden was the 22nd overall pick in April’s draft.

How do you meet in the middle? Can they guarantee only 3.5 years or something?

BEREA, Ohio -- The Brandon Weeden era in Cleveland Browns football will begin on time.
Weeden, the No. 22 overall pick out of Oklahoma State, signed his four-year contract today and will be on the practice field Wednesday with the rest of the rookies, quarterbacks and select veterans.
Weeden's deal is worth about $8.1 million over the four years. He was seeking all four years guaranteed, but received three years fully guaranteed, with a partial guarantee for the fourth year.
Fellow first-round pick Trent Richardson signed a four-year deal worth $20.5 million, including a $13.3 million signing bonus, on Monday night.

Now the question is, when will coach Pat Shurmur name Weeden the starting quarterback? During minicamp last month, he hinted that the announcement could come early in training camp.
"Sooner than later, I think once we've made the decision, that's the deal," said Shurmur. "If you know that he's going to be your guy, then make it happen so everybody gets comfortable working with that guy all the time."
During organized team activities and minicamp, Weeden took the first set of first-team reps most of the time and received the majority of snaps. Colt McCoy went second and Seneca Wallace third.
Shurmur was pleased with how quickly Weeden grasped the offense during the offseason.
"I think he understands our concepts, I think he's quickly getting a feel for his receivers," he said. "Some things have shown up in practice that may not be as obvious to the people that are watching that aren't coaching it, is understanding what each receiver can do and why we have mirrored routes and why you pick the one side and not the other. Some of those things have shown up and he's showing me that he understands how to play this game."
Weeden was eager in minicamp to test his skills in live competition.
"As a competitor and as a football player, you want to throw the pads on," he said. "Any time you see flying bullets from our position with pads on and all of the chaos is going on around you, you get more comfortable. I think that's what gets you ready to play games."
Despite being first up with the starters in minicamps, he wasn't ready to acknowledge he's the starter just yet.
"I'm still working my tail off just to get better and keep learning," he said. "Yeah, I'm getting more comfortable with what we are doing, but I still have a long ways to go. The other guys have a lot more experience under their belts as far as game reps and practice reps, whatever it may be. I've got some catching up to do, so I think that's just my main focus right now. I'm not worried about it."
First chance for fans to see Weeden will be Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
