Well, the 'fan' mentality is certainly taking hold here.
Who cares whether this guy is (was) a Steelers fan? Jack Lambert was crushed when the Browns passed on him. Do you think Art Modell was a Browns fan before he bought the team - I know a bad (but valid) comparison.
The facts are this team STINKS and the ownership has made things worse at just about every turn.

The Haslams are big in the state. Jimmy Sr. started Pilot truck stops. Jimmy Jr. now runs those operations. Younger brother Bill is now the Governor of Tennessee. Lot's of cash and lot's of connections in arenas all over the globe.
They are all big football fans.I don't know how many "zillions" of dollars they have given to the UT Volunteers Athletic Dept., but between them and Thunder Thornton, they have all the donors they need.

I would find it ironically funny if Holmgren gets brought in as the Head Coach after the deal goes through.

Face it, in the world of sports, not many team owners were fans of the team before they bought it. They simply had the desire to be a team owner, and took the leap at the first team that came available.
It's a pretty closed society. There aren't that many teams to hit the market, and there aren't that many people with the ability to buy the ones that do.

I am not a fan of the Haslams one bit...I have lived in Knoxville the past 22 years and you can take the good with the bad but the Haslams are not anyone's hero. The only positives I see coming out of this is that you will have a new Jewish co-owner in Banner running the operations until Nick Saban comes aboard after his contract buy out in 2015. Weeden and McCoy will probably be history in 2013 as Jimmy lures Justin Hunter and Tyler Bray to switch orange hues...and the Dynasty begins. He is also looking at adding millions to his pocket as Browns fans have to completely update their wardrobes with the 2013 logo and uniform change. 21 Browns protest the new log and rip it off their helmets prior to the start of the first game of the season. Jimmy Haslam goes ballistic and moves the team overnight to Cleveland, Tennessee between Knoxville and Chattanooga as he finds a loophole in the contract as the team will stay the Cleveland Browns.

New owner who just spent a billion bucks or whatever is going to want to put his stamp on the team somehow. I would like to see the current management and coaching team kept through the next two seasons and then evaluate what we have. Most of us would agree that the constant management and especially philosophy changes are counterproductive. My guess, Holmgren leaves after this season. If Weeden busts and we regress this season the whole damn crew may be gone come this time next year. Hopefully we look back at this in five years and are really happy with the new ownership. I remember thinking that the silver lining of getting a new team was getting rid of Modell, that did not turn out the way i imagined at all. Change is not guaranteed to be good.

I think with this draft we have made significant upgrades across the board.But all you ass hats can see is the negative. they may be on the verge of it but under the walrus's watch they have fired a good head coach, brought in his guys, trumped the GM on draft day, invested in a QB for 2 years just to draft another etc. etc.
the team is young. i like heckert's drafts (most) and don't understand why we need holmgren to get paid as a our PR guy. i mean what else are his duties? take a vacation, with your record? you should have been counseling your coaching staff since the off season.

That isn't bitter- it's a pretty accurate description of the last two years. OK, he "requested" Colt. He also "requested" Weeden when a lot of the folks thought he'd sill be there in the second round. Hopefully we have a good RT out of that- but we missed out on some premier OL talent- at the cost of yes, you heard it here- "reaching" for Weeden. And old Holmie blew a few draft picks "reaching" for Richardson just MHO.
Trent better be the second coming of Jim Brown for what we gave up to get him.

This is what people don't understand, if you have millions invested in a team are you not going to root for them? The part that annoys me is articles are saying "diehard steelers fan" and such. He's 1000% not a steelers fan, he's an investor. Another thing, remember Dan Gilbert owned part of the Pistons. Gilbert is from Detroit and the Pistons were HIS favorite team. Did that stop him from being a good owner for the Cavs? Is he not making the entire city better? They start out by owning a part of a team to learn the ropes and see if it's something worth investing in. Would we rather have a guy with zero ownership experience enter this blindly, or do we want a guy who knows what he's doing. Even if he has a past connection with the steelers.

When I saw this, or rather, when I heard this from a co-worker I was upset that he was a Steelers fan. BUT upon further review I realize exactly what is happening... This guy has a lot of money tied up into Pittsburgh... and it's clearly evident that for the foreseeable future that we will be kicking the living shit out of the Steelers twice a year, he's just like so many so called "Steelers Fans" that jump ship when the bow breaks. The Browns are Classier, they have the greatest and most loyal fans, they are on the upswing whearas pit is falling like a broken elevator and we just got Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden, Josh Gordon and Mitchell Swartz whereas the Steeler just got 2 offensive lineman. We've made great progress since the last game of the year and in theory have overtaken the division in innovation. We will be better. This guy KNOWS that and like many Steelers fans, probably wants a piece just like many Steelers Fans will after this memorable season we are in for. Superbowl bound Cleveland Browns- All aboard who's coming aboard!!!

This is a dirty, rough hands on type business that requires a certain kind of knowledge, involvement and discipline from the top down that both lerners lacked and money alone cant buy..
Haslam gets to start with a loyal and dedicated city and fanbase that is starving for a winner needless to say if he succeeds he will be a legend..

That's just naive. Yes, he's a Steelers fan, so what? You make an investment of this size to make a profit and to accomplish things. He'll be a fan of his organization.
That's not to say he'll be successful, but to pretend he's some kind of evil Steeler subversive agent; sent to make us stay crappy, like some sort of evil soviet spy is Retarded.
