Haslam To Blow Things Up?
-
Its being reported by at least one person that Haslam plans to blow the FO office up. I can certainly see Holmgren being gone but Heckert doesn't make since, especially considering the vibe coming out of Berea about how some of these new players are performing in camp. Anyway here is the rumor.

One league source tells Clark Judge of CBS Sports that new Browns owner Jimmy Haslam plans to "blow the whole place up," likely ousting team president Mike Holmgren and GM Tom Heckert.
Multiple outlets are reporting that former Eagles president Joe Banner will run football operations for Haslam. Although Holmgren has carried over the questionable personnel decisions from his GM tenure in Seattle, it was thought that Heckert might be safe due to his close relationship with Banner in Philadelphia. It can certainly be argued that Heckert deserves a chance to see the draft classes of the past two years develop. Holmgren is in the third year of a five-year deal that pays him $8 million annually. Baloney. Why would somebody buy the Browns, then break everthing that doesn't need fixed?
Why, oh, why, all this nonsense and worry and "oh, I have a scoop"
Why not just wait til whatever happens, probly next year or never or whatever,
and then talk about it?

Cal,
nobody in theri right mind is going to pay $1 billion dollars for something and THEN suck teh tit of teh people who failed with teh franchise before you.
The FO will get flushed like loose shit, and rightly so. These guys had ample chance to win and they coudln't even show improvement.
That might be true if you purchased the team right after the season was over not right before it starts. It would only hurt the team to scrap the whole FO right now. It would really hurt the team to scrap Heckert. Heckert needs to stay.

I agree the timing is awkward. Almost like the new owner has to stick with the current organization through the end of the year. Changing ships during training camp and after the draft and FA period doesn't seem to make sense.

Not sure why everybody is so enamored with him. His draft picks - although showing promise from last year - is still unproven over a period of time.
MAYBE Heckert gets another chance but, truth be told, blowing up the front office - at the right time during the NFL yearly cycle - can't hurt.
Quite honestly, even with the 'young talent' on the team, they probably haven't gained on Pittsburgh, Baltimore or Cincy. Still a low-tier team. Something has to happen to 'jump start' things in the right direction.

Year 1 is year 1.
It's not like there going to get rid of star players, oh wait ... we don't have any.
If the players perform this year then they are safe.
Restructuring the FO is a given with new ownership, unless the new ownership has been directing moves behind the scenes for the past year.
With all the great picks and great camps we are still ranked 30th.
I doubt thats enough to keep your job elsewhere.

They are stuck with a year 1 whether they want the current group or not. Even they scrapped everything and got who they wanted put in place it wouldn't happen till October at the soonest when the sale is finalized by the NFL. They would be throwing away the whole season regardless. Honestly this is the year Heckert gets his evaluation. Depending on how his draft picks pan out will depend on his he has a job next year or not. I think he does. Regardless we won't see anyone booted out until October and we won't see the GM booted out until after the season is over at the earliest.

I wouldn't mind seeing Shurmer gone. Never understood why he was picked, other then he is one of Holmgens bro's.
-
I don't think anyone is gone because I heard that Haslam went out to dinner yesterday and today is going out with Heckert and Shurmur. I don't know, but I don't think anyone is gone.

I don't see major changes - now.... if the Browns underwhelm badly during the season,
later on, after the season is over, then, sure, changes will happen.
But the Browns finally seem to have all the pieces in place to be kickin ass.
I bet they do. We'll see.
BTW, John, the picks haven't proven themselves over time?
There's a bunch of second year and first year players. If the Browns make
the fans proud, no changes.
Same old struggles? Changes, you betcha.
I'm thinking better than 8-8. Seriously.
