  • With apologies to Joe Pesci, does anyone know if any team since forever (or at least the 1950 merger) has ever had its roster dominated by so many rookies? Here is who we have, just on the active roster (the practice squad is almost all rookies, and the IR list has a couple on it):

    John Bademosi=

    Travis Benjamin

    Tank Carder=

    LJ Fort=

    TaShaun Gipson=

    Josh Gordon

    John Hughes

    James Michael Johnson

    Ismaaliy Kitchen=

    Ryan Miller

    Trent Richardson

    Mitchell Schwartz

    Trevin Wade

    Brandon Weeden

    Billy Winn

Those with the = sign are UDAs...or pickups of cuts from other teams. All the Browns draftees made the team except Emmanuel Acho who is on that IR list.

So, sorry, I think the Browns are going to suffer some growing pains at first. About the middle of the season however, I am hoping that all yuteful talent coalesces into a fine unit.

  • factor in the players entering their second year or third seasons and you have a team comprised approx. 50% of rookies/2nd or 3rd year players.

gotta be one of the youngest rosters in the league.

  • Not sure about the original question ... but as far as Super bowl teams, last year the Giants had 12 1st year players and they said that was the 6th most ever on a Super Bowl roster.

No rookie QB has ever won the SB either ... so that's gonna change.

--Some sources cite Kurt Warner as rookie, but he played in '98 and threw 11 passes, so how can he be a rookie? It's not like Baseball where you need so many plate appearances or innings to qualify as a "rookie" ... in the NFL, if you appear in a game, you are not a "rookie" the next year ... pretty sure about that.

    Probably well over 50%

Plus Warner wasn't just out of college. He played football several years in the Arena League. Yes, playing in the Arena League doesn't qualify you from being considered a "rookie" but it is a form of professional experience.
