Just got an NFL Films flashback ... Stormin' Norman Van Brocklin!

  • By the way, McCormack is guy that doesn't get talked about enough.

Started out as a D-lineman, than switched to Tackle and Paul Brown called him the best lineman he ever coached.

Not too successful as a Head coach, but got three shots at it, then was successful as GM of the Seahawks and Panthers ... putting together that surprising Panther team that went to the NFC Championship in their second season.

So, what you are saying is that you looked up your answers before posting them?

This is supposed to be kind of on the honor system.

Try giving your best shot at the question without looking up the answers first. It is more fun that way. Then if you must look them up, but keep them to yourself so that others may try their hand at the answers.

  • Only two question unanswered:

Who was the QB in the Eagles 1948/49 championships: Note: same guy

Who was the yutz associated with the Eagles who got pissy over the Browns kicking the Eagles everloving asses in their first NFL game such that he decreed that the AAFC records would not be recognized?

  • I usually tailor my trivias during the season around the Browns opponent for that week (unless it is one of the AFCN rivals, then things can get too redundant). Here is some Eagles/Browns trivia:

    1. The Eagles have won 3 NFL titles. Which years did they win those?

    2. When the Eagles joined the NFL in 1933, two other franchises joined the league that same year. Which two?

    3. Why was former Eagles owner Leonard Tose forced to sell the Eagles in 1985?

    4. What was the patch the Eagles wore on the shoulder of their uniform during the 1969 season?

    5. What is the Browns/Eagles head to head regular season record? (within a margin of error)

    6. What former Hall of Fame Browns player was once the Head Coach of the Eagles?

    7. When Jim Brown broke the NFL career rushing record, it belonged to a former Eagle. Who?

    8. What Hall of Fame WR played for both the Browns and Eagles?

    9. Name the Quarterbacks of the Eagles championship teams referred to in Q#1 above.

    10. Who is the Eagles all time leading receiver in yards, catches and TDs?

    11. What Eagles player had the nickname "Concrete"?

    12. What person associated with the Eagles is responsible for the "disallowance" by the NFL of the records of the AAFC after those two leagues merged?

    11. What Eagles player had the nickname "Concrete"?

    12. What person associated with the Eagles is responsible for the "disallowance" by the NFL of the records of the AAFC after those two leagues merged?

Bert Bell who was the former HC and owner of the Eagles...and who was NFL Commissioner at the time of the merger.

It was HE who opposed the "World Series of Football" that ahd been proposed during both years the Eagles and Browns won titles...claiming that the AAFC and the Browns were too minor league. Nevertheless when the 1950 merger became necessary...he thought that the Eagles would mop up the Browns in the meeting of Champions in that first game of the 1950 season....OOPS. The Browns won 35-10. Then he disparaged the method of the Browns win, saying something like "the Browns used a gimmick to beat us". That gimmick of course was something called "the forward pass" 🥷 And as someone pointed out elsewhere, those two teams met again later in the year, and the Browns mopped up the Eagles asses without throwing a single pass.

Bell, being a venal and vindictive man then declared that the NFL would not recognize any of the AAFC records because " the originals of every AAFC game stat sheet" was not available. Well, maybe some "originals" were not kept, but copies of everyone was kept. Ther wasn't a single play that happened in the AAFC that wasn't documented. It was just Bell's way of being spiteful over his team's humiliation at the hands of the Browns. unfortunately the NFL has perpetuated this fraud throughout history.
