  • Know what those guys have in common? They came down so they could become legends and get great talent.

I consider ohio to be a great fball state (i have a rooting interest after all), but as a region/conference there is no comparison.

They came because they were offered a lot of money. Plain and simple.

Les Miles would have preferred to go back to Michigan when they had an opening....but to his credit he said "no, I made a committment to LSU and I will stick to that commitment".

But Urban Meyer had no such compunction....his "dream job" was NOT Florida...it was Ohio State.

Why? Because the regions do compare. You have great programs in both areas. The three schools that lead the NCAA in attendance at their football games are not in the SEC, they are in the Big Ten. Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State.

Each conference has schools with outstanding tradition....like the ones above along with Nebraska etc.

In the recent 5 year window the SEC has been the best...but in the last 143 of college football history, the Big Ten....and others hold their own. (Hell...do you know what conference has the most title?: The Ivy League)

The bottom feeding teams are equally as comparable.

Place your bets on the winner of that Indiana/Kentucky game, or the Vanderbilt/Northwestern game or the Minnesota/Mississippi game.

  • K i'll place my bet, we win all 3.

  • Yep, I do think we are better (more nat titles).

Why do y'all keep bringing up slavery? oh had slaves too, just abolished the practice earlier. Again, I'm 32 and have spent my whole life in ms, and I've never seen anyone murdered or even assaulted, for that matter.

let's see what your coach can do w/o Southern talent.

I don't think so....like I said in 143 years, the Ivy League has more titles.

Why do I bring up slavery....because that is exactly your 'southern' mindset...yu proved it with your "southern talent" comment. What on earth makes you think that "southern talent' is any better? Because perhaps you bred your black boys to be better? That is what I am hearing.

And no, Ohio never had sanctioned, legal slavery. From the time it was a state in 1803 slavery was prohibited. Didn't you ever read Uncle Tom's Cabin? They fled TO Ohio to avoid slavery.

Indiana and Kentucky have played often in the past....but I don't see where they play this year or last year.

Northwestern and Vanderbilt actually play each other this Saturday Sept. 8th.

The Minnesota/Mississippi matchup is one I just pulled out of my ass. I don't really think the two schools play each other.

No one said racism was abolished. It is not to this day. (most of the Anti-Obama undercurrent is racial).

And it wasn't just Ohio. Ever hear of the Dred Scott case? The US Supreme Court said there that the law requiring the return of a runaway slave was valid. Plessy vs. Ferguson?

Had Marcus Dupree been born 10-15 years earlier he may have been dumped in an earthen dam instead of being a football hero.

Chuck Noll wasn't an Assistant in Pittspuke when made HC, nor was Bill Cowher nor the current dumbass so no, that isn't the "Steelers way."

Btw, Dickless Jaurons record as a head coach-

    1999: 6-10

    2000: 5-11

    2001: 13-3

    2002: 4-12

    2003: 7-9

    2005: 1-4

    2006: 7-9

    2007: 7-9

    2008: 7-9

    2009: 3-6

One winning season out of 10. That would be called a failure(yet amazingly enough Browns fans trot his name out as a potential HC candidate the last two years), definitely NOT "the Steelers way."

It's amazing a guy world renown as a joke as a HC notorious for shit defenses is a hot candidate among (too) many Cleveland fans.

Jauron would not be my choice for permanent HC. Interim perhaps, for a few games if it got that bad.

  • On the National Championship thing, here is the breakdown of which schools have won titles since 1869. In some years note there could have been more that 1 champion because the selection method was not unified. Some polls would give a title to one school while another would give a title to another school:

    Princeton: 26

    Yale: 18

    Notre Dame: 13

    Alabama: 13

    Michigan: 11

    USC: 10

    Pitt: 9

    Harvard: 8

    Ohio St.: 7

    Oklahoma: 7

    Minnesota: 6

    Penn: 6

    Army: 5

    Miami: 5

    Nebraska: 5

    Cal: 4

    Ga. Tech: 4

    Illinois: 4

    LSU: 4

    Michigan St.: 4

    Penn St.: 4

    Tennessee: 4

    Texas: 4

    Auburn: 3

    Cornell: 3

    Florida: 3

    Lafeyette: 3

    Florida: 2

    Georgia: 2

    Mississippi: 2

    Texas A&M: 2

    Arkansas: 1

    Boston College: 1

    BYU: 1

    U. of Chicago: 1

    Clemson: 1

    Colorado: 1

    Dartmouth: 1

    Iowa: 1

    Maryland: 1

    SMU: 1

    Stanford: 1

    Syracuse: 1

    TCU: 1

    UCLA: 1

    Washington: 1

Depends. If Weedens sucking ass like in the preseason halfway through the regular season and we're in the Matt Barkley sweepstakes? Definitely go with Dickless or make it clear Shurmy is a lame duck HC. If Weeden is doing well and we don't need to be in the Barkley sweepstakes? Name Chilly interim HC and win some games, establish some confidence in the players.

Screw Matt Barkley. I would rather keep Colt McCoy. Barkley is not as good as McCoy....and wouldn't be at the NFL level.

yikes. my bad. i coulda swore tomlin came from within. just goes to show you how much i pay attention to this shit outside our W/L record. after looking at his stats (jauron's) you posted i'll quickly retract my statement. i do like the guy and think he does well as a DC. another guy i like in the same mold is wannstedt. i like his defenses but he could never excel at that next level. i guess the same could be said about wade phillips (i don't know the stats comparing guys #'s so....)? wannstedt actually got me to watch some pitt games. i like his competitveness. reminds me of jim harbaugh. too bad competitiveness doesn't translate to wins and championships.

well let's hope the brown are at least competitive this year, although i think jauron's defense will take a step back due to injuries (no depth) rookie play and lack of talent at LB.

Barkley is ten times better than either of the "big" 12 scrubs on our roster.

No, he isn't. I have seen enough of him. Colt McCoy can be considered to have been a great college QB. This guy might be considered a great college QB...but his is almost exactly a match to Colt McCoy in his skill set.

If you want a great college QB...fine take Barkley...or McCoy, or Eric Crouch, or Troy Smith, or Gino Torretta, or Steve Walsh or a whole host of others.

If you want an NFL QB....look elsewhere.

  • @junkyard-dawg said:

Apparently you HAVEN'T seen much of him if you're comparing his skillset to McFry. I've watched alot, ALOT of USC the last several years and it isn't even close. Barkley has more arm, with more zip, better accuracy(against legit defenses as opposed to "big" 12 AFL styled "defense") and unlike Crybaby McFry has the mental toughness to succeed in the NFL.

I don't know about Barkley and don't care. I don't think colt should start, but I disagree that he's a crybaby. He's not.
