Weeden Vs Mccoy

Absolutely. As I have said in prior posts, Shurmur is not going to adapt his system to his talent....he demands the talent adapt to his system.
Its called arrogance.
Um that starts with Holmgren. His brilliant idea a WCO can work in a smashmouth defensive minded division featuring the Ravens and Steelers.
Just great- we can Holmie and Un-Sure-mur, it's back to square one. Again. This rinse, wash, repeat cycle is getting really, really old.

yeah well i said it the day holmgren was hired. so there.
october can't come soon enough.

We all know Weeden is going to need time and is going to look bad, hopefully not any worse.
It was just the overwhelming amount of bad things we seen.
In order for Richardson to have a game equivalent to Weeden's he'd have to fumble a few times and fall and curl up into the fetal position every time someone tried to tackle him.
And I hate to say it, surprised no one has really said this yet but, if McCoy starts that game Browns are 1-0.
What happens if Weeden keeps up this less than expected play and the Browns are 0-6 or whatever when Haslam takes over.
Not only the fan and media but the players are going to be pissed off and calling for McCoy, along with a new president coming in Shurmur could be gone by the bye week.

I'm just so bumfuzzled as to how this particular organization can swing and miss so many times when it comes to building an offense. We all know that Weeden was a bad pick for the Browns. It just didn't fit. They should have let Colt have another year instead of drafting a 28 year old "needs to be good now because of his age" QB. They drafted a great RB but from the looks of it he will never get beyond the line of scrimmage because of the weak o-line.
I don't pretend to have all the answers but i wish the people that get paid would come up with a few.
We all don't know that Weeden was a bad pick. He has had one fricking game in the NFL for crissakes. His first game wasn't reall much worse than a couple of guys named Elway and Manning.
If you want to jump off a bridge...go ahead, but not for this reason.

My opinion is the Browns have wasted a first round pick on a 28 year old QB.
Let me ask you this???? Did you say that is just one game when it was Quinn and McCoy? Did you say let's give Quinn and McCoy the benefit of the doubt and let it play out. You probably did..........how'd that work out for ya?
My point is........the Browns have a track record of missing the boat when it comes to improving the offense. Until they prove me wrong.......i am right.
If the Browns were spot on then Quinn would be our starting Qb and we wouldn't be bitching about Weeden. Record speaks for itself.

I think too many people play Fantasy Football. They get it in their heads thinking how easy it is to draft good quality players that truly fit their style offense and defense, knowing that the jump from college ball to the pros is as big as it is. Problem is, their job/livelihood/life isn't wrapped up in the level of pressure that dictates what they are responsible for each and every day that they wake up. Holmgren is the ONLY one that I really feel has the option of not caring (even though I still think he does) whether this team is a dud or not, because he will still get paid either way.
Besides the fact that Weeden looks like he has a bulls eye painted on his chest, I still feel that it will come together once he develops a good relationship with his receivers. Anyone want to take a stab at the difference between Aaron Rogers of last year and the QB of the Packers this year??? Dropped balls. I said it time and again last year, if his receivers weren't bailing him out as often as they did they would look like any other team. Look at the Browns of '07. Was DA amazing, or did it really have more to do with us having BE, KWII, and Joe J bailing him out consistently?
As was previously stated on this thread, McCoy is a great football player with a huge heart. I still feel he will develop as time goes on and become a very good QB. But his time isn't now on this team. Even if Haslam comes in and blows it all up look for McCoy to be traded or backup to someone next season as well.
I also want to see us win win win, but realistically this isn't the year and I don't see the FO believing this was the year either...

(Drunk again) I find it silly in a wayt to read some posts like where one said: because we already know McCOy doesn't have the skills to be a successful NFL Quarterback." In the very next posrt the same person said: Hey, not everyone starts out great. Look at our famous TE Eric Hieden. IT TOOK HIM A COUPLE YEARS to come into his own. I didn't hear a single Browns saying " we need to cut Eric Hieden". Did you? No, you didn't." Now...sure Colt had a full year but it was under a new head coach with a new offense to leartn and no offseason/talent to throw to/pimched nerve in throwing shoulder/ no Oline (you know all the "excuses"). Now many of us want the front office gone because we cant stand them, yet say "Holmgren fdoesnt think Colt has the arm". What the hell is going on here, its very difficult to cmprehend unless im just reading two posts at once.

I think you mean Steve Heiden. Eric Heiden was the skater.

Yes, I did...and it didn't work out well, because it was over the course of a couple of years that it was proven that those two weren't "the guy". And I don't know if Weeden is going to be "the guy" either, but just as with Quinn and McCoy I am willing to give them more than one stupid game to show it. Just because those guys failed doesn't mean that Weeden will also...and yes, it doesn't meant that he won't either.

The Colts tried like 10 QBs before they got Peyton Manning. Just because one guy fails doesn't mean the next one will.
Time will tell......but you obviously don't want to give it any time.

Jim Harbaugh was the Colts QB for 4 year before Manning was drafted.
The Colts had a winning record 3 of the 4 seasons and even went to the division title game in 95.
As for before Harbaugh I have no idea who some of the guys they had were, Colts were pretty horrid in the early 90s.
Edit - Ah ok I thought Jeff George had left earlier than that but he was there from 90-93 so three starting QB's in one decade and the latter was Manning so hardly a case of QB musical chairs.

OK, right. The Colts almost went to the SB with Harbaugh when a pass into the end zone...sort of a Hail Mary was not held onto.

we will see the tune change after Brandon weeden tourches the BENGALS SECONDARY Sunday Give the Kid a chance even Me seeing Tom brady here for the Pats being from cape cod Brady I believe lost his first 2 games one against the jets when bledsoe got hurt Intersesting isnt it?Give him a chance I believe Weeden will be ok Guys Stay tuned i will be around sunday!!
Brady first few game stats below!!!
2001 season
The Patriots opened the season with a 23–17 loss at Cincinnati, with Bledsoe as the starting quarterback.[24] Their second game, and home opener, on September 23, was against their AFC East rival, the New York Jets. Bledsoe was again the starter, when in the fourth quarter he suffered internal bleeding after a hit from Jets linebacker Mo Lewis. Bledsoe returned for the next series, but was replaced with Brady for the Patriots' final series of the game. New York would hold on to win, 10–3, and the Patriots fell to 0–2 on the season.[25]Brady was named the starter for the season's third game, against the Indianapolis Colts. In his first two games as starter, Brady posted unspectacular passer ratings of 79.6 and 58.7, respectively, in a 44–13 victory over the Colts (in their last season in the AFC East) and a 30–10 loss to the Miami Dolphins.[26]

Brady won his first start 44-13 over the Colts ... but I'm with ya, Weeds is going to torch the Bungles. I'm glad it is a road game, he won't hear boos ...then next week when he crushes the Bills at home the legend will be born.

Amen brother Give the Kid a chance the PATSIEs Did with Brady Not saying he will be even close to Marsha Brady But anyway solid lol

The only way to give the kid (Colt / Weeden) a chance is by getting a new game manager (Shurmur must go ......)

The first mistake was of course drafting Weeden too high apparently, so he'll always be saddled with expectations based on the opinion that he shouldn't have been taken at 22. Not making him earn the starting job, and coddling him during the preseason doesn't help either. Then on top of that RG3 looks fantastic in week #1, and Weeden fell apart against the Eagles. It's all coming together perfectly for Brandon, and I don't know if you'll get out of him what you're looking for anytime soon. I've stated before that one of his glaring deficiencies in college was the ability to throw accurately with pocket pressure, and I don't see that changing for the better. That being said he's not a worthless quarterback, and can throw as well or better than anyone out there. Holmgren and company have put the kid in a horrible position, but I wouldn't throw him on the trash heap just yet. If he can adjust to the fact that he won't have a hell of a lot of time to throw, and someone can actually catch the ball when it's there who knows? What Weeden really needed was to be drafted where he should have been in the 2nd round, and made to earn a starting job by out dueling another quarterback in practice & the preseason.

Anyone else watch the preseason and think "Colt is gonna kill a reciever one of these days"? He almost killed Massoquoi and Cribbs in the same game!
It is obvious after watching Weeden and switching to Colt that his arm-strength isn't good enough to be elite. His ball takes so long to get to the reciever that even when he is accurate, the defenders have time to cold-cock our poor recievers right after the ball is caught. It's no wonder Little started to get alligator arms last year.
It is important especially with our recievers to get them the ball in space and let them do work. Little, Benjamin, and Cribbs are all very good YAC guys but Colt does not deliver a quick enough ball to take advantage of this.
Weeden obviously couldn't throw it in the ocean last Sunday, but he sure provides a lot more upside than Colt. I just don't think McCoy's ceiling is high enough to be a superbowl winner. Why continue on with a QB that can't take you all the way? That's at least what the FO was thinking last Spring.

*Unspectacular unless compared to 5.1...
Anyone else watch the preseason and think "Colt is gonna kill a reciever one of these days"? He almost killed Massoquoi and Cribbs in the same game!
I thought the exact same thing... about Wheeeeden. The Red Zone in-route to Little that he "dropped" (as he was getting hammered by the Safety) was a classic example. He starred at Little from the snap! THAT is what gets receivers killed!
It is obvious after watching Weeden and switching to Colt that his arm-strength isn't good enough to be elite. His ball takes so long to get to the reciever that even when he is accurate, the defenders have time to cold-cock our poor recievers right after the ball is caught. First, by all accounts Little got better as last year progressed. Second, while I have never maintained that Colt can or would become "elite", a strong arm is not a prerequisite for elite status. Right now competent sounds pretty good to me.
It is important especially with our recievers to get them the ball in space and let them do work. Little, Benjamin, and Cribbs are all very good YAC guys but Colt does not deliver a quick enough ball to take advantage of this.
Our receivers have to get open first, which if you'll recall they did on a couple of occasions in week 1 and Wheeeedon flat ass missed them. Also Wheeeedon "winds up".... he may have the velocity edge on Colt, but release time is also part of the equation and Wheeeedon does not have a "quick" release.
You are simply placing way too much on Wheeeeden's as yet unproven arm. There is soo much more to becoming a successful NFL QB. And in answer to your question... 31 teams have a QB who cannot take them "all the way" every year.
What a pantload... Guess people can see anything they want to see.
