Itt: We Rank Our Team Needs.

The Browns Board
13 8 475
  • With Gocong, Fujita, Dqwell, JMJ, LJ Fort and Craig Robertson, thats not a bad LB corp (when healthy)

This team is needing a CB bad bad bad. Without Haden, our secondary was an achillies heel. With half our LBs out, they still have played well. We need a CB badly. Did I mention we need a CB badly?

Agree on everything else, DE is a big one also.

  • I think that it's a stretch to say that we're set in the LB corps. I like JMJ a lot, I'd love to have one of those killer OLB/DE's like Mario Williams/Demarcus Ware.

CB is a big one, I agree with that. If we can acquire one in FA or trade, I think that would be ideal because we all know we're probably drafting in the Top 5/Top 10 and there isn't a CB worth drafting there.

I think FB is a huge need, but you can never spend too much on a position like that. I'd love to steal one in the later rounds and have him become a premier blocker in the backfield.

  • I think that they will end up taking an Edge Rusher, whether that be a DE or OLB (in the mold of Von Miller), a CB or a FS.

  • I like Eric Reid a lot. But he's more a mid-late 1st rounder, but he's definitely a stud FS I'd love to have on my team. Same with Johnathan Banks, I like him a lot but will not reach for him.

Mingo and Jones should be our top targets imo.

  • I don't think DE is a great need for THIS season (Parker, Frostee, and Stephans have done considerable good so far) but we will need a guy in a season or two. Parker is a year away from retirement more than likely, Frostee is a run stopper first and foremost and he isn't young either, and while I like Stephans he isn't proven as of yet.

CB is an obvious need but who knows what happens by the end of the season, maybe Skrine gets better, maybe Wade shores up the nickle spot. Same with FS. Hagg has yet to show a reason why he is a starting FS. And then the same for TE. They have yet to use Cameron who I think can and will be a good receiving threat and TE but they refuse to use him because he is not a great blocker (same reason they parted ways with Moore). I think thats stupid since NO obviously don't give a fuck about Grahms terrible blocking and it works out for them, but I digress.

I guess what I am saying the only real need I can see right now for the next season or two is another pass rushing DE. After the season when we have better evaluated some other young guys who are starting at WR, TE, CB, LB, and FS we will all be singing different tunes.

  • Well of course things will change, but I think solidifying our line is really important. Sure, Parker and Rucker look serviceable but neither are game changers.

Sheard is very good, and I want threats on both ends.

We can't just stick to players because they've shown bright spots, we have to be willing to upgrade from good to great. That's how teams get better.

I agree with you that our secondary may look very different by seasons end, who knows what any of our CB's behind Haden will do to either prove their status or find the bench.

I think both Frostee and Rucker has done more than serviceable, they have done good. My whole point is their age. Frostee is a season or two away from declining in skill and Parker is a season or two away from straight out retirement.

  • In my opinion, you're way off base with DE being even being a top 5 need. Rucker, Sheard, Stephens, and Parker have played well. Our D-line as a whole is VERY solid right now, and for the next couple years.

Our biggest need was shown last week, secondary. We need more production from our CB2 and FS positions. Whether Skrine or Hagg are going to develop is still up in the air right now, but either way RIGHT NOW those 2 positions are the greatest weaknesses.

Anotehr LB would be helpful as well. I don't like Fujita. I wish we would continue to start LJ Fort. He played extremely well in the opener and I think we should have let him play more last week to keep some momentum going. It's not like UDFAs never develop into solid LBs (James Harrison??)

TE is a question mark, waiting to see more of Cameron, but he has got to stay healthy or else this is a big need.

WR is still a question mark. Hopefully Little becomes more reliable, and Gordon develops into something.

O-line, particularly at the G position could use improvement.

And finally, why is Marecic still on this roster? He has proven to be nothing but useless. Bring up Smelley and cut this waste of space.

That is 7 positions ahead of DE that where need to increase production.

Sheldon Brown is in the tail end of his career and our depth are late round draft picks. Skrine is undersized against physical receivers. For me, OLB and DE are interchangeable at 2 and 3. We have decent talent at each position, but it is aging and could use and upgrade. We currently have Hagg and Young as our free safeties and neither one excite me. Especially after the Bengals game. These two never make big plays or create takeaways. Sheldon Brown and Joe Haden probably make them look more respectable than they are. I don't pay close enough attention to our play at Guard, but our depth on the offensive line is not good. At tight end we have talent, but no real threat to opposing defenses. We have a core of young guys at receiver that the coaches seem to be happy about developing. I am rooting for MoMass, but in the back of my mind I know he is one or two concussions away from retirement. I am interested to see what he does against the Steelers and Ravens this year. Gordon is a work in progress. We should know more by the end of the year. This year, my biggest disappointment has been the lack of production from Greg Little. I hope that he is able to start reeling in some more catches. Last year, I was pulling for him when he was getting lambasted by everyone for drops. The kid was drafted as a rough talent to be developed. He has toughness and runs hard after the catch. There are some youtube videos of his rookie season last year, and I was impressed with how he handled contact and fought through defenders. Check it out:

  • Hands down Secondary is a top need.

I would say LB might be a need, dependent on how our young backers end up working out. If you think you can get the next LT or CM in the draft, you do it.

I would say in general, our O-Line is solid. That isn't a primary concern.

  • QB still trying to develop chemistry with TE corp. Lets see who emerges and I hope its soon

Parker is 34 and already having limited practices. Just because we look solid right now doesn't mean it isn't smart to upgrade talent. Rucker isn't young and Sheard is really the only stand out talent we have on the ends, we have the chance to solidify what could possibly be the deepest and most talented D-line in the league. We shouldn't half-ass building that component of our defense because a couple of rotational guys look solid.

You can't put something like a FB over the need of a DE.

I guess the reason I put OLB and DE over CB is because of what the draft looks like next year. We're not gonna add a great CB in the 3rd round, and there are none worth taking with how high our pick projects to be.
