Tim Couch wasn't a bust, you dumb son of a bitch.

Do you know anything about the Browns or are you just pretending?

    Are you 15 years old?

He was the 1st pick in the draft and started only 59 games in 5 years, He had a qb rating of 75 and had more picks 67 then td's 64. I would say he wasn't as bad a Klingler or Akaili Smith. But to put up the aweful numbers he did, for a 1st OVERALL pick. HE WAS A BUST

Couch was NOT a "Bust". Not in the true sense of the word. Was he #1 overall pick HOF talent? No. But it was his draft status that he is measured by.

If he were measured by any other standard it could be said that he had a solid, though not spectacular career that was shortened by injury.

Anyone that doesn't recognize this fact is prejudiced. (Hell, he was better than anyone else the Browns have put out on that field in 13 years running now.)

  • I agree they should have never drafted him, He never made it to the playoffs, he never made a pro-bowl. He was 22-37 as a starter. You can guess all you want about woulda coulda shoulda been better on a better team, but for the Browns, HE WAS A BUST

First off, he DID take the team to the playoffs. Its just that he did not make the playoff game due to being injured the last game of the season.

Second.....this team was only a "team" on paper when he was taken.

He took it from a paper concept to a playoff team. 22-37 with an expansion team is pretty damn good. All other expansion teams in history did no better in their first few years, except the Jags and Panthers...but they were given extra special benefits that allowed them to do that. Benefits the Browns...or Texans, or Bucs, or Seahawks or Falcons or Saints etc. etc. did not have.

You are correct in saying He is measured by his draft status. Therfor he is a BUST. If he was drafted later in the 1st round he would just be another mediocre QB, but when you are the 1st overall pick and you were a mediocre QB THAT MAKES YOU A BUST

Your brain is a bust....because you are not able to rationally and logically apply any intellect into this situation.

I actually think what he did was quite....heroic.

Put him on any existing team and he may very well have been the success you would have expected him to be based on his draft status.

But remember....after he was taken as that #1 pick....he was the ONLY player the Cleveland Browns had (until they chose a few others later in that draft)

John Elway, Payton Manning, Troy Aikman....nobody who had ever been taken #1 overall came into a situation like he did (David Carr was the second one. All those people on tha #1 overall list you gave went to established teams Only Couch and Carr did not. They both suffered the same fate.

Compare him not to those guys but to the #1 picks in a franchises history.

  • You can beleive what you want, just like I can beleive what I want. THE GUY WAS A BUST IMO. He was picked 1st overall and was mediocre. IMO that's a bust. In your opinion that's not a bust

You know what they say about assholes and opinions. It doesn't apply to you.

  • Couch wasn't mediocre, and he wasn't a bust. He had no OL, and RB's that wouldn't start at Ohio State. He didn't have a good coach, and his general manager clearly hadn't even drafted a Madden dynasty to practice his job in the NFL. The Browns were given so many picks that first year.. and screwed up nearly all of them except Couch.

Second round, pick 33 -- With Jon Jansen on the board, Cleveland goes with a slot WR. Donald Driver was a 7th round pick for GB.

Second round, pick 45 -- Browns drafted Rahim Abdullah with Joey Porter, Aaron Smith, and Roderick Coleman on the board.

Successful teams are built with great OL, DL, and QB play. Our expansion team had only one of those: great QB play.

b149.. please state precisely what Couch would have had to do by himself to be worthy of your label "successful."

    .

Facts - Couch was a #1 pick that never had a QB rating over 77 and was out of the league after 5 years.

Speculation - "Oh Couch woulda, coulda, shoulda, he had the talent but just never had the players around him (never heard that one before)

So was Couch a bust to the magnitude of Jamarfatass Russel? No, but he was a bust nonetheless.

Now, logically and rationally go on a cuss filled rant like a 12 year old and be emotional like a broad on the rag like you do every other time you're wrong.

Next to David Carr, Timmy may be the most ill-fated #1 QB in history.

But I was concerned about the wisdom of choosing him when our revival Head Coach (and QB guru) Palmer said, "Tim has a great future in the league... all we have to do is tweak his mechanics." Or words to the effect...

WTF??? An overall #1 and you see an issue with his mechanics??? I think Palmer screwed TC up big time...

    Meanwhile... back on topic...

    Another audible Goose-egg today...

Three runs into 8-man fronts made it clear that Shurmur isn't ready to assign BW that responsibility.

FYI audibles don't magically bring 1st downs. It seems pretty obvious but you seem to think otherwise. I'm sure Shurmur can look into the future and see that a play will get stuffed at the LOS and hates Weeden so much that he would rather gain no yardage than let him change the play...

    Sarcasm much?

Not 1st downs necessarily, just a chance to have a positive play... none of the running plays I alluded to had a chance in hell of producing positive yardage... zero... nada...

Please don't imply that I mean something... when I take a position, you'll know what I am thinking.

And if you'd followed this thread from the beginning you would not have had to guess at what I am getting at... and done so so piss-poorly...

Let's put it this way....on those teams....consisting of a 53 man roster, Couch was the BEST player we had out of all of them. If half of them had played up to Couch's level this team would have been outstanding....Plus, this is a guy who took the team from a paper tiger to the playoffs in the 4th years.

Did he come out with HOF creds? No. Was he a bust like Russell, Smith, McCown etc. etc. No.

He took the Browns from being a paper team, to a bad team, to a good, playoff team.

Those are the facts. Sorry you can't deal with them.

He was also set up to fail. Kevin Johnson was his best receiver

I'm not guessing. I have commented three times to show your stupidity. Clearly you can't take a hint.

  • Couch was the QB of the 2002 Browns, which were a playoff team. He was injured in the last game of the year, as the Browns were leading Atlanta 3-0, in a game they eventually won 24-16.

Holcomb started the playoff game and we have had one big clusterfuck of a QB controversy for the ten years since that day.

If Shurmur benches Weeden he should fired. Weeden is more talented than McCoy and we need to develop a true leader and starting QB. The notion of yanking a 1st round draft pick after three starts is idiotic, absolutely idiotic.

    Unless it is Brady Quinn.

He better start connecting with his mid-long range otherwise he is of no more use to us than McCoy, 27yds thats his longest connection so far, even McCoys noodle could throw that even after been soaked in your piss Z. He also needs to learn to run at least now and then, surely he isnt that immobile that when a gap appears and no WR are available he cant scramble for 2 or 3 yards. Hopefully next 3 games will come together on some deep routes, otherwise I will start getting disillusioned with Weeden rather quickly. Which I dont want to do, as I dont like the crop of QB's coming out this year so dont want to be having to dump him to pick another QB in the draft in 2013.

Colt can't throw past 10 yards. So 27 sounds pretty good right now. Weeden hasn't hit on a long ball yet but he is money on the 15 yard slants which sure feel a lot better than 2 yard dumpoffs. The long ball will happen, but what worries me is when we are of need of a comeback in the 4th QTR Weeden has done nothing but throw picks..
