As bad as the score looked, and as bad as the defense played, I did not view this as a game where the Browns got completely outplayed, per se.

What they did do was, as often in the case of losses, is fuckup more than the other team.

Start with Cribbs' fumble which led to a TD.

Then go to one interception which led to another TD and add another int. which occurred when the Browns were in the Red Zone.

Add the dumbass penalty on Buster Skrine at the end of the half which essentially gave the Giants 3 points. Add in a total of 91 penalty yards compared to only about 30 for the Giants.

That was a 17 point swing right there. The difference in the game.

Now, this doesn't assuage the fact that the defense couldn't stop the run....and by the fact they made up for it by not being able to stop the pass either.

But the game did come down to the mistakes that this damn young team made...and not on being completely overmatched.

As I see it, if this Browns offense can put up 27 points on the Giants, how well will some of the more veteran/supposedly more talent teams with better defenses be able to do against the Giants.

Well of course it's nice to see them score 27 points but to play devil's advocate here the Giants basically gave us 21 points.

The early fumble by Bradshaw was a gift inside their 20 and the long ball to Gordon was an obvious scheme/player error by their safety.

Gordon's second touchdown was late in the game while the Giants had a 2 score lead and were playing conservative.

It's not like the Browns had methodical, long, precise drives to score. 21 of the 27 points were gift wrapped from the Giants as opposed to the Browns taking them outright.

Hopefully once we get rid of Shurmur, add one or two more legitimate weapons on offense, I think our we could absolutely be a top 10 offense.

I'd still disagree that the long pass to Gordon was anything but a gift. It still took him catching it and of course took Weeden to throw a very good pass to hit him 40+ yards down the field. Isn't part of the goal of an offense to take advantage of what the defense gives you? Anyone who has been to a game will tell that there are guys open quite often that the QB doesn't even see so it was nice to see that we didn't miss that one. The field position on the first TD was a gift but it was also nice to see us turn that into a TD and not a 3 plays for 7 yards and a Dawson FG.

There's good and bad like each of the past 4 weeks.

          DEFENSE

Good - stopped the run [until switched to pass def to try to stop the NY constant completions]. Then they ran all over em.

Bad - couldn't stop the pass. NY executed like the champs they are. Three step drop and release. Bullet pass exactly on target. Let's face it- few teams probably could have stopped this. This is a passing league for 15 years (rule changes) and if executed right is almost unstoppable. Browns Def Coord didn't rush the passer early on to unsettle Eli.

          OFFENSE

Good - Running game decided toshow up. Caught a few passes for a change. Weeden was mostly on the mark and receivers didnt drop.

Bad - Weeden choked under pressure (again). Yes, he's a rookie. No, the Browns don't have time to grow him.

OVERALL - The team gave up halfway through the 4th Qtr. this reflects badly on the coach.

Hell I gave up on watching that mess a lot earlier than half way through the 4th quarter. There were a lot of good, exciting games going on at the same time yesterday.

Got to admit the o-lineman were hustling on those sweep plays.

They also didn't give up a sack to one of the best D-lines in the league

Sorry Gip, they were outplayed in every facet of the game. We fans are in a sorry state, if we can watch a game like yesterday's game and come to the conclusion that we weren't totally, and completely outplayed. We have been subjected to crap football for so so long, that we forgot what a good team actually looks like. 🙁

                    No, I don't think so.

The O Line and D-line play was a pretty fair match... neither got a sack. Their front 7 may have done a little better than ours on the run. The Browns had to abandon the run due to being behind. Who knows how they would have done if the game were closer toward the end.

And the Browns burned the Giants DBs about as badly as the Giants burned the Browns.

Manning didn't really, to my mind, outgain BW3 all that much if at all.

The one big difference was in the 2 vs. 1 Int. That one int. literally can be said to be a 14 pt. swing.

If you offset the Bradshaw fumble with the Cribbs fumble....it all comes down to that 14 pt. swing on the int. plus the stupid penalty that gave them the 3 points.

Weeden looked like a couple or 3 other rookie QBs with his mistakes...names of Elway/Manning/Favre.

Nobody gives you a touchdown unless they hand you the ball in the endzone.

The teams as of late would not have capitalized on that field position. They would have kicked the field goal or turned the ball over. Good teams capitalize on other's mistakes and the team who makes the fewest mistakes, wins.

I'm just happy to see the Browns actually capitalize on good field position.

It was great watching Richardson score like that I agree, definitely something were not used to seeing.

But if it weren't for Snee knocking the ball out of of Bradshaw's arms, and for whatever reason NY leaving a linebacker on Gordon with no help over the top from Rolle do we still score those 14 points? Who knows, but I wouldn't bet on it.

So the Giants basically shot themselves in the foot, and gave us the opportunity which we capitalized on.

So okay, no teams give you free touchdowns but they gave us free opportunities.

Per the highlighted part: Yes, and vice versa. Its just that the Browns shot themselves in the foot more often than the Giants....and THAT was the difference in the game.

The Browns CAN win games like these because they are not outplayed by the opponent.

But they can't win them if they lose the turnover battle/penalty battle.

The TOs and penalties....things that should be correctable...lost this game. Plain and simple.
