Debate
-
So I attended a wedding in Columbus last night and when the DJ and dancing began I moved to the bar area and watched the debate.
Here are a few thoughts.
I thought it was close to a draw.
I have never thought Biden was stupid and I've always kind of liked his blue collar manner.
Last night I thought he was something of a prick. Smirking constantly interrupting and rude.
I guess if you are a Democrat you might think that was appealing.
I didn't think either 1 had a clear and concise explanation of Economic Policy.
Mayby that does not exist in the real world..
I thought Ryan missed a great opportunity to counter the presidents Afghanistan policy.
something like, really we are turning it over to the Afghans? The ones shooting us in the back as we speak? To prop up whom? And if we are battling al Qaeda how's that going after Lebanon? And okay we assassinated bin Laden. But that was in Pakistan.
But he didn't. So....
Also thought the moderator was clearly an ally of Joe Biden. She interrupted Paul Ryan many more times than she did the vice president and cold upon Ryan for specifics while allowing the Vice President to skate on his bloviating.
On the other hand Bidens boorish populism may have struck a chord with his base.
Probably so.
That being said, the rest of my evening was just great.
I walked from my hotel to Bar Louie in Columbus Arena District had a couple pints of Columbus Brewing Company IPA and watched the last 10 minutes of a Steeler loss!
I don't think that debate changed anything.

Ryan let the moderator and biden interrupt him. He did ok, but in the presidential debate mitt was the interruptor and he talked over the moderator trying to put a stop to it. Make no mistake, to the vast majority of people the issues are not deciding this. The only people who the issues really matter to is someone with an agenda, like gay marriage. I don't think anyone else believes mitt won't raise taxes, or Obama won't. Afghanistan is so far in the background that its easy to ignore on a day to day basis. welfare and social security has been being abused for a long long time. Will either candidate put a stop to it? I doubt it.
No, this election and these debates are about looks and actions. Mitt looked powerful in the face of the president who looked decidedly weak. Biden and Ryan sort of stalemated although the liberals are gushing as though biden crushed the life out of Romney's campaign. He looked a tiny bit better than Ryan, but this isn't even the big show. I know I was more interested in the Titans/Steelers game than the vp debate.
Obama will have to come out both guns blazing and make Mitt look like a fool in the next debate. This is an American Idol, what have you done for me lately, popularity contest as a country and the mostly agenda-less masses will vote for whoever impresses them the most. Obama gets slapped down again and he's in big trouble.

Biden reminds me of the relative you see once year who you try and avoid if possible.

Also, speaking of media bias my hotel doesn't have MSNBC.
I realize that they and Fox will be cheerleaders for 1 side or the other but I usually watch MSNBC just to see what the opposition is up to.
This morning I watched the coverage by CNN.
If I didn't see the call letters on the screen I would have sworn it was MSNBC thanks to the cheerleading and slanted coverage.

I thought the dems got what they wanted, a moral (delusional) victory from the multi talented mouth and animated gestures of Joe B.
A pep fest to raise thier spirits! Hooray for us!
So what I saw was "style" vs substance....
Interestingly, the ABC mod (in the bag ) or, how about just ...ABC bag- switched topics from Libya -
to jobs, then back around to Afghanistan later, and along with Joes eye rolls and interruptions prevented what could have been more natural
and devastating segues for Ryan to exploit. Jmo
I mean those "softballs" were hanging there for him to hit, just which one to pick?
To me Ryan shown he is a capable candidate.

Seemed about a draw to me, with Biden's performance being more important to the Democrats than Ryan's was to the Republicans. All this stuff about smiles and demeanor and such - who cares? It's just spin to win the narrative.
I thought Raddatz had one of the best nights of any moderator in recent memory. Except for that one about "what you, as a man, a human being, could bring to the table that no one else could." I don't know what that was.
They're still leaving way too many issues on the sidelines, though. Still no immigration, no drug war, few social issues but abortion, etc.

You are delusional. Best night? How about "I'm a progressive, paid for weinie and I liked a dirtbag, bigoted moderator" ???
