Let's Talk About The Obvious

I watched the browns vs bengals twice. Weeden 90% of the time dumps it off to his rb, or it's a quick out for 5 yds. Am I wrong? I just watched the whole game play by play. The browns D/ return game won it for them, not weeden.
A win is a win, but I can't see that winning forever. Weeden needs to make plays down the field. (btw the gordon play was a blown coverage)

Yes, but as someone said, that is the WCO.
By the way, that is the same way Joe Montana and Steve Young operated for years.
Some claim it is antiquated.
It is only antiquated if it doesn't work. If it works, its brilliant.
Has anyone noticed that the Browns have on occasion institued the old power sweep? Which harkens back to the days of Jim Brown and Jim Taylor (and USC's student body left or student body right).
Antiquated yes. But effective if executed properly.

Weeden seems pretty good at putting the ball right on the money, 60 yards down the field against those blown coverages. You saw the one last week, here's the week before.
Let me tell you ... it's a hell of a lot better than NOT having a QB that can throw a bomb 60 yards in the air on the money against blown coverage.
117 - 196, 59.7% ,1,401 yds,7.15 y/att,7 TD, 6 INT 9 Sacks 80.8 Rating.
118 - 221, 53.4% ,1,488 yds,6.73 y/att,7 TD, 7 INT 13 Sacks 72.0 Rating.
Top Line is Weeden's last five games. Bottome Line is Andrew Luck's five games.

I'm fine with him doing this... Pick up small chunks of yardage at a time. Weeden has already shown that he isn't afraid to make a throw for the big play, and has a great knack for finding busted coverage deep (even on 2nd and 3rd options, like Cameron when he fell down last week and continued his route when he got back up). Checkdowns should be happening when Trent Richardson is on the field and wide open.

Gorgeous pass. Right amount of speed, height, everything... Receiver appeared to not need to slow down. That is how you throw it deep. We just need to do it more that once a game. We need to spread the D a little more IMO.

By the way, four of Weeden's five games were against defenses that were in the playoffs last year, including AFC runner-up Ravens and SB champion Giants. 5th game was 3-3 Bills. We have yet to play Sisters of St. Marys.

What's the spread against "the Sisters"? (somehow that sounds just wrong...)

Actually, Gip, a good bit of them have been check downs, which as I said above are preferrable to forcing the ball downfield.
And if you'd been paying attention, I've been praising Little for his sealing the edge all week...

I dont really have a dog in this fight but I wanted to shoot my 2 cents since stopping by the browns board today checking to see if you guys had news on Trichs status.
Anyways, Old Colt, Weeden plays in an old but true West Coast offense. The old West coast Offense style they run usually relies on two major elements: a heavy run game, and a short but fast pass game. Then, usually, it will cause safeties and CBs to bite, and once in a while they call a Play Action, go route, where the WR makes a double move to appear as if he will do a "hook" after 5 yards, but then instead goes straight down the field for a bomb (Gordon). Because the safeties and DBs are used to the heavy dose of run, they bite on the PA (usually), AND, even when they realize its pass, if the WR can sell the stutter-step/fake hook well, the DB bites again because thats what the offense has ran all day, then of course, the WR stops-and-goes and runs deep, and the QB hits him. And its been working this year because of Gordons speed and route running, and Weedens arm. So yes, most of Weedens passes are dinks and dunks, but thats his offense, not his choice. Im not defending weeden either, just because I think honestly, they could have done similar things with Colt, or most any QB, had they thrown the ball 40-50 times a game with them. Weedens numbers are slightly inflated over Colts due to the amount of times they throw with him. I STILL think Weeden is a better QB, dont get me wrong, I just think he would have learned alot sitting this year.
As for the Luck Vs Weeden post:
Im obviously a die hard Skins fan, so I love me some RG3, but honestly, Luck is similiar to Weeden this year because they are also making him throw 50 times a game. Except Luck has absolutely NO run game, BUT Luck also has a HOF WR, and hes been outstanding this year. If you take Reggie Wayne away from Luck, I think he looks more aaverage, but Im not taking anything away from Luck just because some of the throws/calls Ive seen this kid make are literally breathtaking. Luck most likely will be the next Peyton Manning, I think its inevitable. But I also think hes got a LOT to learn before he becomes close to that. Weeden, in my opinion, actually has looked really good past few games. And Im quite surprised how quickly hes grasped the speed of the game. I still think Luck>Weeden by far, but when it comes to maturity, Weeden>Luck. Weeden seems that his age has helped him in the sense that he learns a lot faster then the young guys. I still think Luck will be the 2nd best QB in the next 5 years (obviously my biased self believes RG3 will be the best #1 QB within the next 5 years) but, I think Weeden and the browns beat the colts Sunday. Just my two cents.

About the only throws deep to WRs who have beat "blown coverage" ...
As respectfully as I can....
That's the WHOLE POINT of the WCO. To get a defense thinking one thing and then taking those shots. Josh Gordon isn't a magician and is supposedly a raw route runner. These DB's are biting on their reads that the play will be another short-intermediate route and Josh and Brandon are making them pay.
That's a good thing, btw, not a point for criticism.
I like your points and don't wish to refute them, but weren't you fired? Get the fuck outta here holmgren.
