Where you offended when they went after Bush for getting into Yale b/c of his family connections and not b/c of his grades and achievements? Personally it shouldn't matter what or how a candidate did(grades wise) through college but how and what he has done since.

Just what is it about Barack Obama that makes you think he isn't smart or didn't deserve to get into Harvard or didn't deserve to become the editor of the Law Review or to become a professor of law at U-Chicago, or any of the other theories you've posited about his intelligence in the last four years? But something about Obama getting into Harvard Law really bothers you. You couldn't even accept that he'd been elected by his peers to edit the Law Review. (Remember that discussion? He couldn't have gotten it on merit, you said. Tupa eventually came in and shut you up on that one.) The fact that he went on to be hired by one of the best law schools in the country to teach law still isn't enough for you to think he might be, you know, smart.

As for the "stonewalling" I'm really not going to play this game with you. You imagine whatever you wish. I would note, however, that I can't think of anyone who released their high school transcripts and college applications and college grades and the like. They're almost always leaked by someone. Bush's were printed in The New Yorker. Kerry's came out when he released his Navy records.
Look, they wanted his birth certificate. They said he was "stonewalling." Why is he stonewalling, they wanted to know? If there's nothing there, why won't he just release them?
This is so, so different.
Just think of it this way and then you can be done with it: Harvard Law School is extremely competitive. It's extraordinarily hard to get in to Harvard Law. Even if you grant that they'd have looked favorably on a black applicant, which is likely the case - though still doesn't prove his scores were insufficient - they simply don't let in people who don't have very good grades and very high LSAT scores. It doesn't matter if you're a black lesbian Jew from Togo. You don't have a C+ or B- average and get into Harvard Law. So you can almost certainly discount the idea that his grades at Columbia were bad.
Then, once at Harvard Law, he excels, and is named editor of the Law Review, the most prestigious post in his class. His professors describe him as "brilliant." At Harvard Law.
After Harvard Law, he could have his choice of just about any law firm or any Supreme Court clerkship. He doesn't take any of them. He returns to Chicago and is then accepted to teach Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago.
...If you can honestly look at this man's trajectory and imagine that he's not that bright by Steve Simmons standards, and continually question his academic achievements, without a shred of evidence, what other conclusion would you like me to come to?
