I continue to be amazed at the people that continue to bring Colt up or question Weeden. It is night and day between those two QBs. Weeden has NFL talent; Colt doesn't. Why do you think nobody else was interested enough in Colt to come calling when Weeden was named the starter. A painful as it is for us to admit as Browns fans, if you put Weeden on a good team with good receivers and a defense, he would be a superstar! Personally, I think he is better than any of the other rookie QBs. His only downside is the fact that he is 29 and will have a shorter career than most of those guys. But I would not trade him for any of them.

Because teams don't trade that much in the NFL, why would they trade for a backup?

Colt will land a roster spot as a QB2, and as much as you mouthbreathers want to act like Colt is the worst QB in the NFL, he is actually average.

  • man you can't actually believe what 1/2 these mfers on here have to say. i mean i was sitting at my desk in the browns forum tavern with live chat on while watching these drafts on tv.

"oh i love this move! oh what a great pick! half the mccoy haters were already buying his jersey the next day. i screamed how he wasn't nfl caliber in size and stability, citing his injury in the champ game. a lot of these blowhards spouted his record and leadership ability. then when they realize he looked terrible (why...maybe no talent) they are calling him noodle arm. the kid played his heart out with no one around him. and did pretty good if you ask me in his rookie year going into pitt and balt and playing his ass off. yeah his record didn't show it BUT neither will weeden's.

    No one denies he's average.

He's also a good guy and he's young ... I feel good with him as the backup, I hope we keep him.

He's in the perfect role for himself. He's the backup QB. Getting paid pretty well to not have to play but to be ready to play and keep his mouth shut and not bitch about playing time. He's probably going to be in the NFL for 15 years as a great backup QB.

  • I also think we should give Weeds a couple of years without additional pressure (and with a few good receivers to work with) to see how he develops.

I like what I saw from him thus far.

I only wished Shurmur had taken him out in the second half of the Eagles game to spare him the humiliating passing rate he ended up with and the pathetic interception he got in the last drive. Not to mention the extra W we'd have...

  • Weeden is growing and learning. The biggest challenge will be his 2nd season and how the defenses pick up on his tendencies.

Colt McCoy is a great back up and is still better than some starting NFL qbs. if surrounded with the right talent he can be good.

Weeden has more upside in every thing but looks

  • McCoy is a decent backup. Weeden looks like he can be a decent starter. Come on people! We're browns fans!!! What more can we ask for at the QB position! We have not had this since are franchise has been back. Couch Anderson Quinn and all the sack draggers be damned. God I hope we don't have to draft a quarterback for a long time

  • Weeden is the man. Colt is a backup and has a Browns-favorable contract for the next couple of years. This is a great situation for the franchise.

We can take our first-round pick next year and trade down if it's one of the first 2 picks, or if it's #3 or later grab one of the defensive studs. A first-round QB or WR is a seriously stupid move for Cleveland right now -- we need a talent upgrade at DE and both OLB in a major way. Sheard and both of our OLB's are marginal starters at best -- if we were playoff contenders they would all be on the bench.

  • Agree with all that but sheard. If we draft anything but a D stud with our first pick I will be pissed, receivers are young but talented. Dropped balls of course are a problem, but we have to get front seven upgraded
