Done With This Joke Of A Team

The Browns Board

  • I've been going to Brown's games since they came back. It's not working. This team is just not moving forward. Before moving to Cleveland, I lived in Pgh. (I am Ohio Born) I watched the passion and determination of that organization make winners.

There just isn't the sheer WANT or NEED or passion to FREAKIN' WIN on the Browns Team. Today was it for me, for a while. I'm not paying any more attention to this train wreck, because this year is scrap and done. Another F'n wasted year!!!!!!! I am not listening to 93.2 the FAN everyday like I used to. I'm done with it all. I have 3 kids, work and life. I am investing NO MORE in this piece of crap organization. For those that know me, you can have my tickets and my spot at the Lot. I'm going to work on my car on Sundays and not put myself through this JOKE of a team any longer. Hi honey, I'm home!!

Jimmy Haslam has been the owner now for less than like 2 weeks and you want to jump ship? Or did you miss that whole change of ownership thing? Did you think it would take him two weeks to completely turn things around?

All I can say is, if you do intend to go: Sayonara Sucker.

I get where this dude is coming from. This shit is annoying. They make it hard to continue to watch and support them.

We all know this dude will be back next week. We all have these moments, but we always come back. You can't help who you love. In this case, it's the Browns and they always let us down, but we're always here.

I can safely say I'll be a browns fan till the day I die. I'll root for the team, try to watch as many games in the season as possible (live in NC), and proudly rock my browns gear year round. I'll get mad during the game and enjoy a few cold ones with my supportive girlfriend and sometimes mom and dad when I come into town. The biggest thing with me though is simple: it's football, not life or death. Being in the real world now (I'm about to turn 23), there's so many other things in the world to worry about and care a whole more about than a crappy playing football team. I honestly feel bad for some of you guys on here who let the Browns bring you down so much. Sure, I like to blow off steam when they lose but by Sunday at 5 I'm over it. My advice to the OP is just relax and relish the moments when the teach is actually doing well. Focus on being a good dad and husband and find another hobby that doesn't involve continual losing and disappointment.

The only thing I will say is there no way in hell I'd pay season ticket type money to watch the browns. I'll gladly support a local business on watch them on TV but to pay the cost of tickets to watch the crap the browns typically put on the field is crazy tome.

    good shit man.

i live in dayton OH so 3 hrs to the stadium isnt too bad for me. I can safely say to the OP that ive been down the same road.

"why do i even watch this?"

the answer? for all the games in the future the browns are going to win, it will be that much sweeter.plus, IMO, the Cleveland Browns are the coolest most historic franchise of all the NFL (minus packers) and I LOVE everything about what the Cleveland Browns and their fans represent, ESPECIALLY right now at 2-7. The living breathing want and drive to win is in every Cleveland fan, no bandwagoners, they know and truly support the team through thick and thin. for 13 years, the browns fans have suffered through mediocrity, and STILL DO. that to me is why I love the Browns. thats commitment, thats heart, and that first playoff appearance in the coming years, we will type on this board, just as we do now, except about a Super Bowl!

....okay maybe that last part is pushing it but, anyways

    Go fucking Browns

Well, as a season ticket holder, let me put things in perspective. You're 23, and with good health should see the Browns win at least a couple of Super Bowls. Us oldsters who are nearing Social Security age probably won't be so lucky.

We got spoiled as kids- the Browns won all the time- the equivalent of the Yankees in baseball. In the first 25 years I was cognizant enough to follow the NFL and Browns, Cleveland had three losing seasons. We've had two winning seasons in the last thirteen. Not acceptable the way the NFL is set up for parity. I've seen teams go from the gutter to the Super Bowl while we've been spinning our wheels in the basement muck.

How do I feel Monday after yet another loss at the Factory of Sadness (that could easily have been a win with better coaching)? Still honked off. I was about physically ill for a day after Byner got stripped in the Denver fumble game. Sat in what was to become the Dawg Pound for Sipe's Red Right 88, and to this day I still get mad thinking about what might have been. You could have heard a pin drop in the stadium after that interception, if you want to talk about stunned silence.

Oh, back to season tickets. If you're a long time season ticket holder, you're more married to your seats than your wife. And again, some perspective. When the Browns came back, I knew it was now or never to get decent seats, so I went in on my lifelong friend's seniority. It cost me $1,500 for the PSLs (payable in 3 annual installments). Yes, I know- that can buy a lot of beer. However, we've managed over the years to work our way down to the 20 yard line in the lower deck- and that's probably as good as we're going to be able to do- even with the Browns playing like garbage, we've put in for seat improvement the last 5 years, and come up empty. Anyone who already has those premium seats (inside the 25 yard lines) won't just walk away from them- they'll get whatever the market will bear on e-Bay or Craiglist. And even with the eventuality Haslam will significantly raise ticket prices, Browns tickets are a bargain compared to major college football. For example, I got invited to the Ohio State- Illinois game. The Buckeye season ticket holder who invited me pays not only the $70 for corner endzone seats (as opposed to my $75 for 20 yard sideline) but also has to cough up $1,000 per seat every year (as a generous donation to the Athletic Department) for the privilege of buying them. That works out to $195 per game to watch OSU beat the snot out of teams like Buffalo and Florida A&M. BTW, that sort of stuff isn't isolated to Ohio State. My PSL was a one shot deal in comparison. Yes, sometimes I wonder why I waste the seven hours of driving to see the Browns lose yet again. But I feel there's real hope for this team. We finally have some talent- all we need is a better coach.

The one glorious thing about being a Browns fan is that I can go to Marshall's or the Salvation Army and can get all the Browns gear I could ever want for under $10 a piece...

What's great about the Browns is that its more about heritage and civic pride than it is seeing a team win. Wins would be nice, but having the history that is the Cleveland Browns in your heritage is one thing that is incredibly invaluable. It's amazing how much Boston fans here bitch and moan about being .500 in any sport. Suck it up and show some civic pride instead of being self-entitled little bitches who's only ambition in life is to see his or her sport team win every year. Cleveland rocks, and so do the Brownies.

Hoorta, this was a good read! Thanks!

I have a serious question. Back during that 25 year dominance, how would you have felt if the Browns so-called rivalry, who was the doormat of the league, let's call them the Steelers, attributed your winning to cheating, paying the refs, favoritism of the league, on and on? Maybe that's why those of you who have actually experienced a great Browns organization, don't engage in the senseless Steeler bashing just because they dominate.

    Again, thanks for the read!

Oh, of course I wouldn't have been happy. Do I attribute some of the Steelers dominance in the 70s due to PEDs? Maybe, but so what- it is what it is, and you can't change history. That was mostly due to Pittsburgh having superior talent. (Just don't get me started on the argument because of those SB wins, all those guys deserve to be in the HOF- if Jack Ham is in, Clay Matthews certainly belongs.) LOL, I do remember the Browns were at least competitive enough against those Steeler teams to make those games interesting, not the 30 point blowouts that have become a regular occurrence of late.

What does irk me is guys (both Steelers and Ravens fans) who roll in here on a regular basis with the attitude "well, we've always beaten you- you're lousy, you're always going to be lousy, we've been great like forever and it's not going to change." I tend to take the longer view nothing is forever in the NFL.

A few years back, I said the Browns didn't have a single player on the roster who would start for the Steelers defense. That's no longer the case. Ditto that on the offensive side. Are we still missing some parts to contend for a Championship? Sure- but that's not the major problem anymore. The Browns do have young talent, and plenty of it. What did Bum Phillips say about Don Shula? "He'll take hiz 'uns and beat your 'uns, then he'll take your 'uns and beat hiz 'uns." I really believe the Browns could be 4-5, or maybe even 5-4 with competent coaching. It's incredibly frustrating to see game after game get blown by horrendous in-game decisions.

jezuz christ, i'd give my left nut to be 21 or 23 again. yes even being that young being born where i was born i'd still choose to be a browns fan.

i'm guessing i'm not as old as hoorta but i didn't start getting into football until my last years in high school (too busy smokin weed) so the only winning browns i caught were the cardiac kids and the kosar era, shit you guys didn't even have aq chance to see that. that sucks. but got some serious respect for both y'all (i guessed your family forced it on you 😆 ).

everyone (or at least the majority of the people on here) hated modell, not while he was here, but because he took a 'winner' out of cleveland. i believe that sealed the fate of this team for years to come. then a british soccer fag and his little boy buy the team and never quite understood who or how to get to build the team back up the right way. NOW comes haslam. i think this our first legit chance to turn the team around since i started watching the team. even though i hated some moves of this past year's draft i think keckert deserves to stay because of the talent that HAScome from his drafts. i just don't want to see another whole 'blow-up' of this team. if they are good at what they do, keep them. if not, bye bye.

This has been a pretty cool read from you older guys I have to admit and does put things in perspective. Hoorta, after reading that I feel like if I were in your shoes I'd be doing the same thing. It's a huge difference to hear about the browns former success and actually being able to be a part of it. As for my age, trust me Mic I enjoy every second of it. I still feel old sometimes but I know it can be a lot worse. It sounds crazy but I'm literally the only one of my college friends who graduated in four years and has a regular desk job. Our generation is taking 6 years to go to college and then not paying it back.

As for my fandom, I had a choice between the Cincinnati or Cleveland sports bases. True story (if anyone cares): my grandmother was close personal friends with Marge Schott who even before she bought the Reds in the 80's was a wealthy woman with a stake in the team. She'd take my dad and his family off to Big Red Machine games including the World Series, and they got to sit right off the plate and meet all those legendary players. Although I follow the Indians closer, I still support the Reds and watch a fair amount of their games.

On the other side of the coin, my grandfather actually played pro baseball for a short time as a Cleveland Indian. His claim to fame is hitting a home run off of Bob Feller in a scrimmage (still has the ball he hit I might add). He actually had to quit the game of baseball to make more money on the railroads so he never had a long standing career. Seeing as my passion was football playing sports growing up, I always gravitated towards Cleveland as my dad is a diehard browns fan. I don't remember the years we lost the team (I was 6-10 years old at the time), but my dad tells the best stories about watching those 80's games and the heartache of them.

I love being a browns fan though, because when that glorious time comes when the Browns win the super bowl it will be arguably the best moment in sports history outside of the Cubs winning a world series.

I'll gladly support a local business on watch them on TV but to pay the cost of tickets to watch the crap the browns typically put on the field is crazy to me.

Great post. I was born in '63, went to my first game in '72. I've got way to much emotional investment & season ticket investment to ever give up on my team.

I happened to be born in the same year Modell fired Paul Brown....sometimes, I think I'm The Omen lol.

I do think better times are coming soon. Bad drafting & bad coaching, with a sprinkle of bad luck can't last forever. If Dick Vermeil could turn the Rams around in one season, someone can do it here.

    Just clicking.

I understand where the poster comes from. If he's a real fan he will be back on board by Wednesday. Sometimes we vent.

For me, I am most likely going to upgrade to club seats next season. I don't have much seniority with this being my 7th season as a season ticket holder. I bought my seats through a private sale from some guy who had about 30 sets of season tickets he bought when the team came back.

I am in row 19 of the upper, 45 yard line, great seats, but would like to move lower. I now know that isn't happening anytime soon as many of those uppers on the 50's are held for Browns Amumni, so moving lower in the section isn't much of a option. My PSL value, $1500 per seat is a wash with any seats in the house, so I will be able to transfer those, so it's time to make the move to the club. Maybe this way my wife will go up with me a bit more. (I don't want her to come to all of them, but a couple a year would be nice...she's my ballast.)

I guess what I am saying is there is no way I can't root for the Browns, but I will say I am glad I gave my tickets away last week to a buddy who lives in Columbus and didn't have to face a 582 mile drive from the hotel to my home today. It gets pretty long after throwing away winnable games.

I'll be up over Thanksgiving. Thursday in Cincy. Friday afternoon tour of the Clubs with my wife and my ticket rep...I need to close the deal....she'll love it. Friday night in Vermillion to eat at a French restaurant we love...one of the best in the country, no doubt, then to Berea the last two nights.

That closes my Browns season on the road.
