  • So wed have an owner that was a steelers owner and the steelers old coach? Hey maybe we can get hines ward to mentor the recievers too!

  • NO NO on BILL!! The guy doenst want to coach.. lets leave him alone!!

  • Seriously, fuck Bill Cowher.

  • the guy coached for 16 years? and won 1 superbowl. Doesn't seem that great to me.

  • We need to find the next Bill Cowher...not bringing back a retread that has already had success in the NFL and won't have the fire that this team needs.

  • Let's start one more gay ex-coach thread.

ok WRRebel so you want to blow this whole thing up again, put some chris palmer or some other qb coach turned off coor. into a vacant HC position, have them fire everyone, start a new system that every player on both sides of the ball have to learn?

OH BOY!! another 5 year plan!!!!

how about promote from within? ever hear that phrase? yeah bizs do it everyday.

if you were to compare the browns to any big biz, we'd have been out of biz many years ago with all of the 'corporate shake-ups' we've had.

if haslam has any brains he'll realize that single factor that has had the most resounding effect on the suckiness of the browns since their return is no stability, across the board: coaching staff and front office.

no. i'm no huge childress fan but i know he knows how to use a running back. i like jauron better, just because of the discipline factor but not impressed with his HC record (who would be?).

get rid of holmgren and shurmur. keep heckert. promote someone from within coaching staff and bring the new college 'hot-stuff guy in to fill their position.

let these rookies at least learn one system to play without doing the alex smith (niner QB) 5 different coaches in five year thing.

To put things in perspective: Since the merger, there have been a total of 316 head coaches with every team having at least 8 head coaches with the exception of the Steelers and 5 expansion teams (Ravens, Texans, Jags, Panthers, Texans). Less than 30 percent of those coaches have posted a winning record.

Cowher coached for 15 (not 16 seasons). During his tenure, no team in the league won more games and only 14 coaches have more wins who coached in the Modern Era. In the post season, Cowher and Tom Coughlin have 12 wins, a number surpassed by only 6 coaches (Belichick, Landry, Noll, Shula, Gibbs and Holmgren).

    Perspective:

316 Head Coaches since 1970 and out of the 46 Super Bowls, only 13 Head Coaches have multiple Super Bowl wins - and 15 Head Coaches have "ONLY" 1 Super Bowl win.

Curious, if that isn't "that great" to you, what would be?

If Cowher led the Browns to 161 wins, 10 playoff appearances, 8 Division titles, 2 AFC Championships and a Super Bowl - would you consider that to be "not that great"?

so cowher is in the same coaching realm as holmgren? HA!!

cowher played and coached for the browns. BUT was born in pitt and coached for pitt. haslam bought into pitt a year after cowher retired so there is no connection there.

why would anyone in their right mind give up a cushy tv gig, be away from their daughters and family in NC to move to NE ohio?

haslam would have to make him by far the wealthiest coach in the history of the NFL to even have the guy's mind blink at such a ridiculous idea.

i think his money could be well spent elsewhere, like free agency.

    Coach after Coach after Coach...

how many is that now...5 or 6 since the Browns came back in 2000. they all suck*d... How many GM's they all sucked..

now there may be a chance with new ownership and J Bann, so now is the time (and I can wait till after this 3-13 debacle of a year). Please can someone in this organization take a signed blank check and stick in in Bill Cowher's pocket..There is absoutley no fire or desire in this franchise at all....If you get a high profile coach and do have a decent draft, somehow this can get turned around and the expectations rise overnight...

    JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with Ghoolie. Not only that, the odds of Cower actually taking the Browns job would be infinitesimally small.

Jon Gruden has far more connections to Cleveland- grew up In Sandusky, and his dad is a huge Browns fan. No for the same reason. Ditto Andy Reid if he gets fired.

    Hell no to Norv Turner.

    Doesn't Cowher live in Strongsville?

Idk, I want a guy whose gonna coach our young players up, show guts and not hold our players back.

I feel if Gruden or Cowher wanted to coach, they would have come back by now. And not many coaches have won a superbowl with two different teams.

Cowher live in Strongsville? Where the hell did you hear that. That was a bullshit rumor spread on here a few years back. He lives in NC and NYC. He ain't coming here, and I wouldn't want a retread anyway.

Yes i was being sarcastic... about Zombo saying let's start another gay thread about a former coach. I couldnt have thought of a gayer coach than Rich Kotite.. Ok maybe Ray Handley.

I do not want any former coaches like GAYBOY Gruden or Cowher.

Seriously.. I would fire everyone on the coaching staff.. A new head coach will want to bring in his own coaches. Being how young we are and being how many pieces we are missing it wont be a big impact. Banner and Haslam both have repeated that if they make a change, it would be the last change for a while. And it wont be the 55 year plan we are currently on..

Actually, There has NEVER been a coach who has won a super bowl with two different teams.

Just say no to Gruden and Cowher. Find the next young Cowher or Gruden and build on that with the young players on the team. Josh McDaniels is still someone who I think is an interesting choice.

Thanks for the detailed reply, that is why I asked the question, dickbag. IF we are going to dig up a has-been to coach the Browns, that person better have a near perfect track record and still be motivated to prove it. Cowher is done.
