I'm not a registered Republican, nor did I love Romney. As the always excellent Charles Krauthammer said on Fox, Governor Romney's a Northeastern liberal...but even that's far preferable to a liberal fascist.

That's not it at all Vap.....quit going back to that position. I clearly said the country is changing and that is the way it goes. Natural progression, though I don't know if it is progress.
No doubt i am a conservative, but Gays don't bother me and I really don't have a problem if they are granted marriage rights. Love is hard to find, so find it where you can. If it's a big Sin, God will straighten them out in the afterlife. It's not my job to judge them. Heck, I am good friends with several gay couples.
I don't have a real problem with abortion. I think it's wrong, make no mistake, as before, God will sort that out. The only thing I would want is equal rights for men. They should be able to abort their responsibility to being a parent as readily as a woman. If women can decide to not have a child, a man should as well. If she wants it and he doesn't, it should be all on her.
My take is the socialist attitude that is prevalent....equal outcome is more important than equal opportunity.
It's not a system I would choose.
As I said, if that is the way it goes, I am slick as far as I am concerned. I bought a good amount of gold in the 80's....over 10 lbs of the stuff, and very little of it is under the mattress or in banks in this country. I put it all away elsewhere, so until it gets to the point "ze papers" don't allow you to travel abroad, I am good. I'll take my chances I am smart enough to know when to bolt before the borders are closed.
I am not a doom and gloomer because of President Obama. He is my President and I always refer to him as such. Respect is the word. I doubt you can scour these pages and ever see me say anything other than President Obama unless it is some commentary on something he did and didn't refer to him by name. To me it's disrespectful to call any President anything other than President so and so....I don't care if you hated them to the core.
Here is how I look at it and will put it in terms that makes sense to my simple mind and maybe make sense to others.
If you worked in a butcher shop and decided you needed some meat that night and didn't have the money and took a whole 30lb salami home, you can bet the butcher would notice that salami missing and hell would have to be paid. If you take it a few slices at a time, he never misses it. He might see it looks a inch short, and maybe wonders and says a few words, but mostly, it's gone without notice.
It's the same with our rights in this country. They are being stripped a little here and there. Those that complain are easily written off as crackpots...and then soon enough those that complain are sent away and those left have no rights and wonder what happened.
Seriously, embrace the future, but don't be so damn eager to give up what made this country what it is....or was.
It isn't a bad place to live, even for those at the bottom of the totem pole......you don't see USA citizens at the bottom level flocking in to Mexico or Jamaica looking for a better life.
That should tell you something.

If I'm at a farmer's market, and they ask me if I take Obamao checks - I'll tell them to go live in another country like cuba, or russia, or venzuela,
or kenya, where they could get it cashed for ten times it's value there.
If I'm in a one person bathroom, and somebody knocks on the door, when I'm done, and they are waiting outside....
I'll ask if they voted for Obamao, and if they did, I will quickly go right back in, and stay there making diarhea sounds for a hour.
If I go anywhere to buy anything, like a pizza, or groceries, I'll ask them if they voted for the great satan ObaMao, and if they did,
I'll leave the pizza or groceries, whatever, right there, and walk out.

Today is when people who love this country stand up for what they believe in. I witnessed at a local sushi bar the owners throw out a bunch of college age commie Obama freaks and told them to never come back.
The owner said be sure and tell the rest of your kind that we wont serve anyone who voted for Obama.
Then after the ruthless bastards went on their way the owners wife turned around and said Obama is sheeiiitt a big piece of sheeitt that knows nothing about business.

'Peen I have to congratulate you. To my question (which went unanswered BTW) why is gold @ $1,700 an ounce? The answer is- because the smart money as always, long ago figured out in a hyperinflated currency- as we're eventually headed for- gold (as well as silver, precious metals and diamonds) won't LOSE their value- and it's being bought up like mad. If as in the Weimar Republic- (another unanswered question) a loaf of bread costs $10,000 that ounce of gold can be sold for $1,700,000+.
Oh, I'll pose another question to the young 'uns- and again no cheating. Regarding the slow, sure erosion of rights. When the constitution was amended allowing the taxation of income(imagine that!) what was the maximum tax rate?
