I was talkimg about Bush 1988

Read my lips: no new taxes" is a now-famous phrase spoken by then American presidential candidate George H. W. Bush at the 1988 Republican National Convention as he accepted the nomination on August 18. Written by speechwriter Peggy Noonan, the line was the most prominent sound bite from the speech. The pledge not to tax the American people further had been a consistent part of Bush's 1988 election platform, but its prominent inclusion in his speech cemented it in the public consciousness. The impact of the election promise was considerable, and many supporters of Bush believe it helped Bush win the 1988 presidential election.

Once he became president, however, Bush raised taxes as a way to reduce the national budget deficit. Bush refused many times but was making no progress with a Senate and House that was controlled by Democrats. Bush eventually agreed to a compromise with Congressional Democrats to raise several taxes as part of a 1990 budget agreement. Although technically there were no new taxes in this agreement, Bush in the same speech also ruled out raising existing taxes. In the 1992 presidential election campaign, Pat Buchanan made extensive use of the phrase in his strong challenge to Bush in the Republican primaries. In the election itself, Democratic nominee Bill Clinton, running as a moderate, also pointed to the quotation as evidence of Bush's untrustworthiness, which contributed to Bush's losing his bid for re-election.

    Sound familiar?

  • Cut is only $50.00 per month... how bad is that? wont kill them will it?

From what I've seen its not the GOPs fault they lost. They lost because

    this isn't traditional America anymore

    too many minorities

    our country is morally corrupt

    the dems cheated/lied/threatened/etc

    and on and on

basically, they did nothing wrong and only "real" america should count...

I guess so but I was talking about the original post.

As far as Bush 1 keep in mind that no good deed goes unpunished.

But as far as repealing the cuts from Bush 2?

Obama didn't do it he could have passed it easily on day 1.

    The reason?

Any of his advisors who actually knew anything about economics realized it would be bad for the economy in general.

Now, with no looming reelection, he doesn't have to worry about that.

He did learn a lesson however.

Bad economic conditions have been a plus for him.

  • The problems in this country are the financial/fiscal problems. Yet the election was won on social issues.

That's a fault of the dumbass voters in the country, and the dumbass Parties for whom they nominated. Democrats know/knew how to win the election, so they did. Republicans (based on who they nominated) were obviously clueless regarding either.

The doof that has just begun his 2nd term is clueless on how to address our problems. Gay Marriage and Pot aren't problems, assholes.

  • I believe we are headed toward a Cloward-Piven crash.

    Cloward - went to Columbia

    Piven - went to Columbia

    Obamao - went to Columbia

Crash. On purpose. With entitlement spending cuts

being blamed on Republicans, Wall Street and white people.

Riots in the cities, a run on banks, hyper-inflation,

and a devastating crisis involving a scarcity of food and root beer.

I could make sassafrass tea, but that has a very mild "toxin" in it,

called "safre'" Learned that from an Encyclopedia Brittanica when I was kid.

  • Funny how spending trillions on foreign wars is ok but somehow spending a few bucks here in the US is going to be the downfall of our country.

Almost forgot... Foreign Aid to Israel is more important than the United States crumbing infrastructure too.

  • Protecting Americans from being killed by suitcase nukes, and bio weapons is more important than

    food stamps to the leeches.

Protecting an entire country like Israel from being destroyed is more important

than free stuff to dipshit spongs on our REAL American people.

Yes, I am not talking about those who really do need assistance.😠

  • I wouldn't call people who voted for President Obama dumbasses. For the most part people vote for the person who they feel is going to best take care of their needs. The people of Ohio felt they needed a guiding hand. I am cool with that.

I just regret that the people of Tennessee have to live with the decisions made by people in Ohio and California.
