The Browns Board

  • McClendon is already better than Hampton in my opinion and no i don't think Rubin starts because Heyward is the heir apparent to Keisel anyway and he's really coming on. I think you're insane to say that if Ben were healthy and in that game the Steelers don't win. There were several throws left on the field because Byron didn't have the wheels to make the throw. If Ben is in that game they can't stack the box as much which opens up the run game and a few throws Bryon missed are made. It's once again woulda, coulda, shoulda but in a game where the Ravens couldn't muster an offensive TD and the Steelers left a few on the field you have to think Ben makes the difference and to say otherwise is just being a bit of a "hater". I also don't get to watch the Browns as often as I'd like so i don't see Haden that much. If he's good in run support he'd be a tremendous asset but I still don't know that he beats out Ike Taylor who would be in the pro bowl if he could catch a cold. Keenan Lewis is also playing the best he's ever played and is getting pro bowl buzz this season. I liked Haden coming out and I'd take him in a second but I don't know that he beats out Taylor or Lewis. (slightly homer shaded glasses but still being serious)

Polamalu is a SS, Clark is a Free Safety and it's always been that way and Charlie was the back up to Ben for a while until Leftwich was signed and even then that's been a coin toss. Batch got hurt the one year and they brought in Byron, just like they brought in Hoyer this week. Look at Batches record as a starter or a spot starter for the Steelers. It's good and he's gonna be just fine on Sunday.

When you are hired by an NFL to give talent evaluation I may give some credence to your talent evaluation skill. Right now, no.

I think you're insane to say that if Ben were healthy and in that game the Steelers don't win.

Really? What happened last time two times BR faced the Ravens. Gee, I think it was just a year ago. Oh, yea. The Ravens won both games....first 35-7, then 23-20.

They beat them with or without BR. Like I said. (Don't get me wrong, I am not here to praise Baltimore, but to bury them. Nevertheless...I can read a score)

There were several throws left on the field because Byron didn't have the wheels to make the throw. Nope, just calling a spade a spade. And calling a loss a loss. Just telling it like it is...thank you Howard Cosell. (Hell, you probably never even saw Howard Cosell)

I also don't get to watch the Browns as often as I'd like so i don't see Haden that much. If he's good in run support he'd be a tremendous asset but I still don't know that he beats out Ike Taylor who would be in the pro bowl if he could catch a cold. Slightly dumbass. Haden is better than either of those...with ease. He is ineligible for the PB because of his adderall, but he IS a better cornerback than either of them. LeBeau would drool to have him.

    Polamalu is a SS,

Becaus Polly was such a freelance player I always thought he was the FS. Isn't it the FS that is supposed to be more freelance?...in most schemes?

Clark is a Free Safety and it's always been that way and Charlie was the back up to Ben for a while until Leftwich was signed and even then that's been a coin toss. Batch got hurt the one year and they brought in Byron, just like they brought in Hoyer this week. Look at Batches record as a starter or a spot starter for the Steelers. It's good and he's gonna be just fine on Sunday.

  • Wait I can't be a talent evaluator but you can when discussing the Pittsburgh corners? Got it. Haden is good, I just don't know that he's better than either corner for the Steelers. Just my opinion and right now Lewis is proving to be the difference this year, especially when you consider how few sacks the Steelers have thus far. They're in press coverage most of the time now and Lewis is making plays all over the field.

EDIT: It's not that way for the Steelers. Polamalu has always been at strong safety with either Ryan Clark or Chris Hope at FS.

  • Rubin wouldn't start for the Steelers and Haden is very good but there are no guarantees. I'm not sure how he is in run support but if you can't come up and tackle you don't play corner for the Steelers. I like TJ Ward but right now Will Allen is playing very well in place of Troy and has a good chemistry with Clark. I just think Ward is too much like Clark and I'm not sure that would work in our scheme. Ward is good. I also don't understand why you all are so amazingly confident you're going to win this game. We just narrowly lost to the division leading Ravens with Bryon Leftwich hurt for most of the second half. Our defense is playing lights out and in the Haley offense Batch just needs to be accurate and not turn it over. If Leftwhich didn't get rocked on that one hit we likely would have beat Baltimore. I know woulda, coulda, shoulda and the Browns always play the Steelers tough but to sit here and flat out underestimate the entire operation is pretty short sighted. Batch has been a back up for a long time in Pittsburgh for a reason.

Hey homer- to seriously overrate your team is what we've come to expect.

First off, you're full of crap if you think Rubin or Taylor wouldn't start @ NT over end of the line Casey Hampton. FYI Rubin STARTED at NT in a 3-4, and excelled.

Haden would likely make the Pro Bowl this year, if he wasn't ineligible due to the dumb ass drug suspension.

To say Will Allen in in the same league as Ward is another bunch of Steeler homer BS.

So you lost to the Ravens close. So did the Browns. Browns win both games against the Crows with competent coaching. 5 FGs for starters- need I go on?

I seriously hope for once- the Browns blow you out of the stadium, just to hear you whine "Ben didn't play".

    Mike Wallace

    Antonio Brown

    Emmanuel Sanders

    470 yards

    4 TD

    Greg Little

    10 games

    30 catches

    354 yards

    2 TDs

So let me get this straight- Gordon has just as many yards as all three Steeler Wide outs, more TD then 2 of them , and he has had a Rookie QB who over throws everyone and he could not start for the Steelers??? OK

Look I understand you are going to be a homer when it comes to your team just like we are, but the fact is Gordon is a STUD, Little is good- the rest just suck.

Is your Defense better?? Sure it is You have Dick!!! But the Browns Front 7 is pretty good and Haden and Haden are good. Unlike some people on this board I think Ward is a little over rated by Browns fans because he puts big hits on people. Haden is our MVP on defense and without a doubt would start on every NFL team!!!!

We will be winning in the fourth then we might get Shurmered!!!!

talent wise the Browns are very close to the ravens and Steelers, difference is both the Ravens and Steelers have Outstanding coaches. Dont let people fool you Browns fan would give up there second child for Harbaough or Tomlin and there coaching staffs

And where have those Rams been ever since? Elite does not mean flash in the pan.

You are the one who mentioned Elite. If you looks at gips original post it just said close to being better than the Steelers and Ravens. Also.. the Rams really did have a nice run for a while.

just because i proved your statement wrong..

The Rams were an Elite team for those 5 years or so.. so boo yaa

You're either being cute or you completely missed the point. I'm going to go with the former and give you the benefit of the doubt. In this instance Mike Wallace has the most yards and the most td's on our team. However when you watch the tape it's pretty clear he's not Ben's first option he's just turning some up field for big yardage. He's also had some pretty bad drops and in a few instances showed a lack of effort when it came to making a catch. I'm sure he's still a little disgruntled. Now look at Andre Johnson for example he had a 100 yard game to open the season and then didn't hit 100 yards receiving again until week 9 against the Bills. He then goes off this past week for 273 yards and now has 60 receptions for 870 yards and 3 td's. Now I'm sure I could run a laundry list of receivers that had more yardage than Andre Johnson before their bye week.

Do you think the rest of the league would place some of those ho hum receivers ahead of Andre Johnson as far as vertical/physical threats are concerned? They absolutely do not and did not because Johnson is one of the best in the league. I love Fantasy football but as far as tangible measuring sticks are concerned it's sort of ruined the league. Putting up gawdy numbers week in and week out in the fantasy football world does not make you an elite wr. Teams get in to garbage time, other receivers have more opportunities or a greater number of targets. Andre Johnson is likely double teamed more often than he isn't. It's all factors not taken in to consideration when judging the ACTUAL talent of a WR but are considered when discussing fantasy football prowess. All of which places Josh Gordon firmly behind all 3 of the top receivers for the Steelers and quite frankly I don't know that many would argue against it at this point (Unless you're from Cleveland).

Wow, so you want to get SS or FS specific?

FWIW, the Browns pass blocking has been out F**king standing of late, run blocking, not so much. Joe Thomas neutralized Demarcus Ware- and put down your crack pipe if you think any player on the Steelers D is better. Weeden had all day to throw. and again, you're under rating Gordon and Little (who over the last couple of games seems to have overcome his big fault- he's now holding on to the ball). Care to tell me if your WR group is so f**king great, why they went out and re-signed a washed up Plaxico Burress?

Reason for (slight) optimism? You have a third string qb playing behind an O-line that's already put 2 of your qbs on the shelf. The Browns D-line is healthy for a change. So I ask you, because I don't really know- is Batch mobile? Because if he isn't- he's going to get killed, just like the other two. Incidentally Haden practiced Wednesday. Sort of takes #1 Wallace out of the game. And- Poly-moo-mo is still not practicing? The only reason I'm not totally confident is I never underestimate Coach Patsy Shur-loss' ability to lose a game he should have won.

Unless you think your almighty defense can pitch a shutout- I'd be damn worried.

Seriously Hoorta and this goes for all the other people that want to "argue" with me. Please f*cking do a little bit of digging before you pop off. I certainly do. Burress was signed because Antonio Brown is still out with a high ankle sprain and Cotchery is now down with Broken ribs. It leaves Mike Wallace, Sanders and a rookie that was just brought up from the practice squad because of the Brown injury. They signed Burress because they had too. I have no idea how Burress will be but his numbers from last year didn't indicate he's washed up. Hell I haven't even been on here talking massives amounts of crap but the more I read the more I just hope you get absolutely slaughtered on Sunday. You all certainly deserve it.

EDIT: And the "mighty defense' held the first place Ravens to some field goals. What the hell makes you think Weeden and Co. are going to fare any better?

Hell I haven't even been on here talking massives amounts of crap but the more I read the more I just hope you get absolutely slaughtered on Sunday. You all certainly deserve it.

EDIT: And the "mighty defense' held the first place Ravens to some field goals. What the hell makes you think Weeden and Co. are going to fare any better?

Seriously Hoorta and this goes for all the other people that want to "argue" with me. Please f*cking do a little bit of digging before you pop off. I certainly do. Burress was signed because Antonio Brown is still out with a high ankle sprain and Cotchery is now down with Broken ribs. Got it- you have no wrs, (so Gorden still wouldn't start over your cripples? LOL!!!) a third string QB, and you're going to waltz into Cleveland and win?

Maybe you didn't notice the Browns played the Ravens just as tough as the Steelers did. Apples to apples.

Look at Charlie's record. He'd be a 2nd string QB for a lot of teams right now and I thought we were discussing starters for each team when the team is healthy. Gordon is not better than Brown, Wallace or Sanders.

  • ok here is the truth I watch both the Browns every week and the Steelers( wife Huge Steelers fan). Are the Steelers better than the Browns? Of course they are, but not as much as you think!!

the Biggest Diffence is two reason

1.Tomlin is head and shoulder 30x the coach shurmer will ever be

    2. Big Ben and I know he is hurt only missed one 1, but I think he had 17TD and 4Int before he got hurt. I am sure I will get corrected if that is wrong

Besides those two things I really think we are either better or the same all over the place. It seems you think Gordon is not good for your great Wide out core..OK.... I am just glad Flash is on our team. What makes a WR great??? A QB, I like Weeden but he is not Big Ben, and to say Sanders is better than any of our Wide outs is just stupid.

If the Browns had the coaching staff the Steelers, Ravens, 49ers, Green Bay have we would be 8-2 The talent is there.

  • Ahhhh..... Lots of good reading guys. This is the way I see it

Fact 1 - steelers are right now a better all around football team than the browns, don't think it's arguable for 1-2 more seasons (hopefully)

Fact 2 - Tomlin makes Shurmer look like a snot nosed first grade girl on the sideline. We will not beat the Steelers or the Ravens (convincingly) with that dipshit at the wheel

Fact 3 - Wallace and Brown are better than Little - Gordon right now, I hope that changes soon because Gordon SEEMS to be an absolute fucking stud

Opinion 1 - Steelers are on the decline while the Browns young team really does look like it will take off (as soon as we have coaches that can distinguish their asses from holes in the ground). Here's to the Browns being atop the AFC North in 2 years! GO BROWNS!!!

LOL, he wouldn't even be on the roster of any other team.

In fact, the Steelers have cut a him a few times when they were making roster moves, because they knew know one else would pick him up n they could add him back on later.

He hasn't thrown more than 53 passes in a Season since 2001. 2001!

He is basically a mascot that is good in the clubhouse and knows the system in case of emergency. They never expected him to actually start.

Your posts in this thread explaining how this Browns player is better than that Steeler player ad-nauseum explain perfectly why the Browns have the better record.....at least in your mind.

You are nothing but "excuse du jour"!

This is something YOU don't understand: Coaching matters. A great deal.

How many years did John Cooper have far superior talent...yet lose the game to Michigan.

    Many, many.

Dick LeBeau is perhaps the best DC in the history of the NFL. He can take far less talented players than the other team has and have them perform at a much higher level than the opposing team.

There are coaches that lose games for their team. Pat Shurmur is one. Norv Turner.

If the Browns and Steelers traded complete rosters right now the Steelers would still have the advantage because LeBeau had the advantage over everyone, and Tomlin certainly has the advantage over Shurmur the Weenie. Whatever Tomlin is, he ain't a weenie. Like you.

Gipper you really need to stop with your theory that he can take far less talented players and make them superstars. Lebeau is no doubt a fantastic coordinator but the players are simply running a scheme. It's their athletic ability that gets the job done. I'd love for you to make a list of players on this roster that are inferior athletes but seem to excel because of Lebeau. We are talking about the NFL after all. THe 1% of American Football players, make the list. I'll wait.

EDIT: Also you should know that on my board there is on occasion quite A LOT of complaining about Dick Lebeau and his occasional inability to adjust. There is a contingent of fans that want him to retire sooner rather than later so Butler can take over. I and a majority think it's premature but we'll see how things continue to shake out. Unfortunately for you Butler IS waiting in the wings for when Lebeau retires and he's cut from the exact same cloth. It's not going to get any easier when Dick retires.

First off....it is not my theory that you can take less talented players and make them superstars....the theory is that is that a good coach can take a unit of players and several individuals as well and make them perform far better than their innate talent would suggest.

And also, it isn't MY theory. It is the theory of innumerable knowledgeable football minds.

But perhaps no one expressed it more eloquently than Bum Phillips who said about Don Shula:

"He can take his'n and beat your'n, and he can take your'n and beat his'n".

And, FYI, that theory goes back to the likes of Curley Lambeau, George Halas, Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi, Bill Walsh...and up to today with Bill Belichick.

No one is proclaiming that these guys are "inferior" athletes....but the fact is that some players excel in a system. James Harrison is one in my opinion.

And the fact is, from what people say, other than Pollygirl and Harrison, no on on that Steeler defense is probalby going to be considered All Pro caliber talent. Yet they have consistently been rated the #1 or 2 defense for any number of years.

And this concept doesn't just apply to defense. If Joe Montana hadn't played in the WCO under Walsh which he was certainly suited for, the fact is, he may have just been another average Joe. The wrong system CAN stunt a player. We all think that Weeden may in fact be playing in the wrong system..

Well, this just goes to show that Steeler fans are indeed dumbasses.

Please, by all means, force LeBeau to retire.
