Week 12 Game Impressions: Steelers Vs. Browns
-
1) Wasn't it you- "short attention span" who was telling us that Batch was better than most 2nd string qb? I'll even give him the "rust" factor- he sucked today- had adequate protection for the most part.
Honestly from what I've seen of Charlie before this game most expected a different game. Sure he has his issues but he looked down right bad today. Awful even.
2) Oh St. Ben would have won the game- he's hurt- sorry about that. Told you twice already the pity card doesn't work.
He would have but I'm not making excuses. I'd say I've been pretty gracious in the loss, maybe you should try acting the same.
3) Like I said- Shur-loss tried to hand you the game (as he does any opposing team)- any competent NFL HC beats the living snot out of the opposition team with 8 turnovers. You play like that next week- the Crows are going to dismantle you by about 30.
It's on Tomlin now? Were we watching the same game? Did you not see all the fumbles and then the completely inept Charlie Batch? You can attempt to be harsh but don't be an idiot. Tomlin did what he could with what he had as his disposal which in this instance wasn't a whole lot.
4) Eat crow about Gordon. Incidentally sucky Haden held all-world Wallace to 1 catch- non-factor. Kindly take your homer glasses off for a second and realize the Browns are building a damn good defense- You're not running against Taylor & Rubin- and no one else will, either.
Charlie Batch, Charlie Batch, Charlie Batch, Charlie Batch. How many times was he targeted in the game? and please find where I call Wallace all world. I don't even think he's the best WR on our team. I'm also not going to "eat crow" because Gordon doesn't start over Wallace, Brown or Sanders. He can play over Cotchery or Burress.
Just sayin' you come over here before a game, tout your vast superiority- and are (were) DEAD WRONG about a rusty 3rd string qb- expect some grief. Let Tomlin coach the Browns today, and we win by 20. Maybe you missed Shure-loss going into a shell when we were up by 6 with 3 minutes left?
Just realize the tide has turned- still can't take the homer glasses off I see, and admit the Browns have superior talent (just not superior coaching) at most positions. Even with Ben, you're not making the playoffs this year. The Ravens will put you out of your misery next Sunday.

I didn't "tout" superiority. I simply defended my Steelers as any good fan would and injected some reality. The Batch we saw today wasn't the batch anyone expected. Although I don't know that anyone expected 8 turnovers which according to the telecast hasn't happened since 1989, strangely enough also against the Browns. I also don't believe that a different Coach makes any sort of difference today as the Steeler defense is playing that well right now. Sure He made some ridiculous decisions but they don't equate to any where close to 20 points, not even CLOSE. The Ravens with all their starters in place couldn't muster a TD, what the hell makes you think the Browns would have? Delusional once again. Let me make this pretty clear, as it hasn't seemed to set in with a bunch of people. I don't post here to start sh*t. I don't post here to rub it in, I joined here to READ and post on occasion. What I found was a huge contingent of Steeler haters which has me posting a hell of a lot more than I ever intended. It's a never ending topic here. I at no point came here before the game touting superiority. As a matter of fact please waste your time in digging through my posts since this week came to light. You'll find that you're dead wrong and that I was merely defending the Steelers as they sit currently. Don't put words in my mouth Hoorta. I'm not an idiot. I also think you're heinously wrong if Ben comes back Healthy, the Steelers are going to do more than make the playoffs. I just hope if and when he comes back he's not coming back too soon like he has in the past. A healthy Steeler team will make noise in the playoffs not just make the playoffs.

stooler fans can't realize their time is short and ours is just beginning. troy polygirl might play another, what, 2 years if healthy enough? harrison will be droolin snot by the time he reaches 35 and ben will either be crippled or in jail by age 33.
and no, your defense does SUCK! all smoke mirrors and parlor tricks.
maybe polygirl can push lebeau and harrison around in matching steeler wheelchairs when all the dust settles?
it's gonna be bad. REAL BAD. don't worry though. we'll be there to carry the AFCN banner for the next millenium.

You realize that Polamalu has played in one game this season and the defense is ranked number 1 right? Worilds was drafted to replace Harrison. He has 4 sacks in limited play so far this season. I'm not exactly worried about the defense.
Hampton - McClendon
Keisel - Cam Heyward
Harrison - Worilds
Taylor - Cortez Allen
Polamalu - Will Allen for now, he's been a huge surprise. The Steelers need to draft a safety and if the seasons continues down hill they may get a crack at one.
Please, please highlight the other areas where the defense is going to fall off? Larry Foote is also old but they drafted a guy in Sean Spence who was really impressing in training camp before he was ir'd with bad injury in the preseason. I want to know where this fall off is going to transpire. Do i need to go to the offensive side of the ball and highlight all the youth? I'm confused Mik. Show me the light. I don't expect to be good forever, but when the Steelers do it a "rut" they aren't going to be down there long. The good teams, with the good coaches and the good owners don't stay down there long. Do I expect things to get more competitive in the North? Absolutely. DO i expect the Steelers to fall off the map? Absolutely not.
AND hey Mik I'm not going to be xxxxing trolled. I'm not stupid so save the ridiculous BS for someone else. Smoke and Mirrors? What the hell are you watching?

Over on steelersfever message board the sky is falling. When they're not talking to browns fans and getting all rah-rah I think you will see plenty who acknowledge their team isn't dominant right now and might not be for some time.
Hoorta, the browns are definitely on the rise but they've got some work to put in before they get any respect.

You're on the wrong message board. I'd give you the one I post on but I really don't want a bunch of trolls, nor do i want to be responsible for bringing them around. The sky MAY be falling this season if Ben can't come back healthy but any Steeler fan seated in reality isn't worried about the long term future of the Steelers.

We're saying YOU'RE the one who's not being objective. WE'RE saying Shurmur is a complete dud as a HC- I'd even take Norv Turner or Romeo Crennell ahead of him. YOU're the guy saying how great your CBs are- despite Joe shutting down Wallace- I suppose you're going to blame that all on sucky Batch. Or did you forget short attention span, coming on here and saying how freaking great a backup Charlie was? I haven't.
Gosh, we ought to have Zombo change your screen name to Homer-tron. Look, I don't have Steeler hate- you lost to the Raiders and Broncos- WITH Ben. So you're going to go to Crow-land, with "Trust Rusty" Charlie and pull one out of your ass against the Ravens? Seriously?
To put it in Ghoolie terms, after the Ravens spank your doopa, you're going to have to win out to make the playoffs. Lotsa luck there.

Well whatever. There were a couple hundred viewing so I'm just saying. I have profiles on a message board for everyone in our division except for the steelers. I'm generally not a huge shit talking rivalry guy. I actually like the Ravens and Bengals to some degree. I don't like the steelers at all, but you've got to respect them.
I disagree though, if you open your ears to listen, a lot of steeler fans have some (legitimate) concern for Ben's future beyond the next two or three years, and for the team in general. You want us to believe its business as usual but let's get real, before Ben arrived business as usual was sucking. Between Bradshaw and Ben was a pretty desolate time for Steeler fans and its really rare to get a Rogers behind Favre situation. You keep saying you're not an idiot and you're not but neither are some of us. The Steelers are not going to continue their run on top of the AFC North for long. Any Steeler fan rooted in reality will know that the seventies steelers are exactly as relevant as the 50s browns, no more, and there were a lot of years before Ben Roethlisberger where they were not good. Where will the patriots be after Brady? The Saints after Brees? They'll be where the browns are right now. Those steeler fans rooted in reality should have concerns for the long term future of the steelers because that elite team is getting old and beat up. Much as I hate Ben you can't just plug someone in and replace him.

no really. i'm not going to bash you cuz you're prob the only steeler fan on here (?) that i respect....
rankings mean nothing the day of the game, and either the steelers were playing down to the competition OR we're not who you thought we were. meaning a lot better than most people think.
so either your defense sucked and gave up 20 points to one of the worse teams in the league or we (being a world class offensive juggernaut), kicked your ass.
somewhere in the mix i'm missing something (barring any excuses). so 6 turnovers were committed by someone on YOUR team. someone that YOUR team drafted and are 'plug and play' as you so like to point out.

no really. i'm not going to bash you cuz you're prob the only steeler fan on here (?) that i respect....
rankings mean nothing the day of the game, and either the steelers were playing down to the competition OR we're not who you thought we were. meaning a lot better than most people think.
so either your defense sucked and gave up 20 points to one of the worse teams in the league or we (being a world class offensive juggernaut), kicked your ass.

Mik you guys had a short field on several of those turnovers. I'd have to rewatch the game to determine how many times you were on our side of the field inside the damn 40. I'd expect even the most anemic offense in the NFL to score some points in similar situations. Charlie Batch is 38 and clearly done. The running backs, there is no excuse. Rainey put it on the ground on a very hard heat. The others just put the sh.it on the ground. I have no idea if Mendenhall will even be with the team next season and if he keeps putting it on the ground he's definitely not getting resigned. He fumbled the damn things twice, thankfully we recovered the one. All i know is with a healthy Ben I'm not AT ALL worried about the Steelers, but as long as he's out we're no better than the worst team in the league whomever that may be until we get a better back up QB or Ben returns. The same can be said for any number of teams in the NFL with franchise QB's. Most are going to struggle, it's just the way the game works. EDIT: I also appreciate the respect comment, it's all I want when I come here. I expect to get slammed, I'm just not going to get trolled.

like i said i respect you guys. for real. it's not smart not to respect the bully in the school yard that's been kickin your ass from middle school through high school and into your mid-life crisis.
you guyz are not done by a long shot, short term. but it will be a tough hill to climb (w/o ben) to even sniff the playoffs this year. (not bashing weeden) if weeden would've stepped in as a rookie and done what luck or RG3 has done WE might very well be looking at a wild card playoff berth ourselves.
all i know is in the next couple of seasons (like you said) things are going to be getting a little tougher for the perennial winners and better for the who they aint's like us.

man i hope the steeler fans realize how bad their team is when they don't have roethsliberger. w/o him they'd be fightin us for the bottom of the AFCN every year.
How many teams are lights out awesome without their franchise QB? It's a stupid comment because they aren't without Ben and they'll have someone developing in the wings when that time gets close. Either way this game is miserable. Ben is supposedly in line to possibly play against the Ravens for round 2. Our defense is playing lights out but Batch and the RB's outside of Rainey are trying to give it away. I expected better from Charlie honestly but he's throwing ducks. I just hope they can groom Hoyer who i think has potential as a back up QB and keep him around a while. It may also be time to draft one and groom.

Maybe Mark Malone and Bubby Brister and Kordell Stewart are available to groom as BRs successor/backup, or their equivalent.

I'm not going to be a dick but seriously? You watched the game, what do you think?
That the Browns defense won this game by kicking the shit out of the Steelers.
-
I told you this game was going to be a no win sisuation for the Browns
Browns win----ohh it was against a third string QB
Browns Lose---- You suck you lost to a third string QB
Fact is Trich had over 100 total yards against that "Great Defense"
Fact Charlie Batch does suck
Fact Charlie Batch does not play Defense, but will say he didnt help them either
Fact Big Ben does not stop 5 fumbles, come on man
Fact Browns Defense has been lights out the last couple weeks, Big Phil Talyor Nasty....
Fact someone on this board still thinks that Haden, Ward, Talyor, Sheard, Rubin, DQ, Gordon, TRich, Tomas, Mack and anyone else cant would not start for the Big Bad Steelers.....
And Really I do not care who played QB for the Steelers, our Defense kicked the shit out the Steelers today!!! We won!!!!!! In years past the Steelers win this game, but things are changing in Cleveland and The Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals know it is coming...The problem is that Ravens and Steelers fans have there head so far up each others ass tehy dont see it coming and when we win its even better!!!!!!
Homotron you are a good steeler fan, but your impressions of our players vs your players are so far off not even funny.
I'm not going to address all of this, not because I can't but because I want to play some Black ops and I'm just "tired" of football today. I not once said a word about Richardson, D'qwell, Joe Thomas or Phil Taylor for that matter not being able to start for the Steelers. Haden would also certainly start but i just don't think it's this OBVIOUS choice. You can argue with me all you want but don't put words in my mouth that were never there. Actually I lied I'm going to address it all.
* T-rich had a effective game but he wasn't the difference. He wasn't even dominant, he was just solid in that he didn't turn it over and he had a nice, well blocked run up the gut for a td. He otherwise spent most of his day getting swarmed.
* Charlie Batch does suck but if not for the fumbles he still may have gotten it done today.
* You are correct that Big Ben wouldn't have stopped the 5 fumbles but you can be damn sure the Steelers don't run in to the teeth of a defense expecting the run with Ben under center. It just doesn't happen. You know it, I know it. Everyone knows it.
* Phil Taylor is a stud but he should be, he was drafted in the first round. I liked him for the Steelers but we obviously didn't get a crack at the man. I also don't believe there are many that would question the potential prowess of the Cleveland defense, especially once things start to gel. Yet you did just go up against a team lead by Charlie Batch who made it very clear he can't make all the throws. He just doesn't have it anymore and I don't expect him or Leftwich to be around a hell of a lot longer.
* Lastly don't put words in my mouth. I know what I said about whom would see playing time on the Steelers. You can go back and check it yourself if you'd like. The Browns barely won a football game with 8 fumbles, 5 recovered by the Browns and 3 interceptions against a Steeler team with their 3rd string quarter back. It's a win but it's not a win I'd be marking on the calender, not now...not ever.
Now i don't expect anyone to concede the above but I know most of you understand the above. If we lose to you guys I know something is wrong and right now something is wrong. I'm certain my sentiments will change as the Browns improve but the only reason i even give a damn about the Steelers/Browns games lately (the last 10 years) is because of all my close friends from college that are diehards and the sh*t talking on this message board. The fan base gets riled up for the Ravens games but not really for the Browns and that's unfortunate considering the history of the rivalry. It was a really crappy loss and for you all a win is still a win. I hope the rivalry gets back to where it belongs but right now I don't know that anyone gives a damn about losing to the Browns because everyone in Pittsburgh knows we lost because Ben is injured (and you guys aren't a legit threat) and that the season is in jeopardy as a direct result. (I know possibly arrogant but it's the damn truth at least as far as the opinion around here is concerned) Good luck with the rest of your games. I'll still be lurking until the last game of the season but I'm not here to dump on you all. I don't start BS, i just inject some "color" in defense of the Steelers from time to time. Have a good one fellas.

Yea, you lost because BR didn't play. Total speculation. You lost because the Browns were better, simple. Two years ago when the Steelers lost in Cleveland BR played the whole game.
In this case, if BR played, I think the Browns still win...and they probably knock BR out of the game.

A healthy Steeler team will make noise in the playoffs not just make the playoffs.
If they ARE lucky enough to make the playoffs, which I doubt because they still have the play the Ravens, Bengals, and Browns again, they would at best be the 6th seed.
Which means they would have to go play at either Denver, Texas, New England, or Baltimore.
As I see it, even with BR, these Steelers would be about a double digit underdog to any of those 4 teams.
Could they get lucky? Maybe. Maybe the Colts go into a swan dive. Maybe the Bengals become the Bengals. But I doubt they make the playoffs, but if they do would they be lucky enough to win a game?
They would have to be very, very lucky to beat any of those 4 above.

Let's see, you remind me of Luke Skywalker being trained on the Dagobah system saying "I'm not afraid".
I am your Yoda saying "You will be. You will be."

Of the like 8 fumbles committed by the Steelers (remember, they recovered one themselves and one went out of bounds) all but one was the result of the Steeler player being slobberknockered by the Browns defense. Only the one by Osama Bin Mendenhall was what you would call "unforced".
