That's not just an Altoona phenomenon. You're seeing it across the USA. It's frontrunner mentality. Here in SW Ohio Steeler fans have sprouted up everywhere- once they started winning. Most likely were 49er fans in the days of Montana & Young (and will be again should they win a SB or two) or Packer fans in the days of Farve. They'll jump on the glitz Cowboy train in a heartbeat if they ever start winning big again.

It's what happens when you win. It's a AMERICAN mentality not just a "Pittsburgh fan mentality". Get over yourselves. If the Browns starting winning tomorrow and ripped through the NFL for the next decade you'd have yourselves a wagon to pull around. Browns jersey's would sell at a record rate, ticket cost would increase. The current Browns faithful would be singing the "hardcore fan base song" while the rest of the "hmm i kind of like football crowd is saying...whelp they're winning. It's time to buy a Browns jersey" Wake up mongos. The Cavs are a good example of this exact notion. It's about time you all stopped trying to crap on one of the strongest fan bases in Professional sports. I know it hurts to admit it.

    (Gipper apparently has similar sentiments.)

Strongest fanbases? You just admitted you're pulling the frontrunner train- and a huge percentage of them are going to jump ship after a couple of losing seasons. Can't happen? History says otherwise.

And to Skinsfan- there will always be a special place of disdain in Northern Ohio for LeBron. As Gips said Frontrunner deluxe. Even tweeted "Go Bucks" in the OSU- Michigan game. One Championship for the hometown crowd would be worth more in our eyes than the 10 he (thinks) he's going to win in Miami with his other frontrunning pals. Stern letting LeBron & other teams get away with loading up on superstars is alienating any interest of the have-nots in the NBA. I'd say I've watched 75% less pro ball since the traitor bolted to Miami.

I have watched about 99% less pro ball since this whole superteam thing started.

I haven't watched much bball since Jordan retired. I never missed a game when he played an now I never watch a game. LeBron will never be as good as Jordan. He lacks the heart. An he may win 1 or 2 more rings but that's all

  • Last week I went to Dallas with my wife, son & my new daughter-in-law. In the picture here, the shortest kid is a Browns fan in a Cowboy household-you can't see it because of the Browns flag, but he had a Trent Richardson jersey on.

His family couldn't even explain why he is a Browns fan- he's 9 years old. The young man said he "thinks the Browns have the best uniforms in the NFL." I gave him my static decal from my truck, and my pocket schedule. That kid is a true fan, he doesn't care that the Browns are struggling, he just loves the Browns.

On a side note, the Dallas fans are pretty cool, I was surprised. They don't have as much of a home-field advantage anymore in that Taj Mahal- everybody focuses on that huge tv.

The "strong" fan bases are those that stick with their team even through extended difficulties....e.g. Browns fans....as opposed to fan bases predicated totally on continually winning...e.g. Steeler fans. (face it...historically that is a FACT).

On the other hand, a strong fan based can be completely disheartened...and even alienated by a team's organization/owner/whatever. e.g. The Cleveland Indians.

Many, many, many Indians fans refuse to continue to support the team as long as the Dolans own them.
