All it does is it makes it take longer for normal good people to purchase a weapon legally when the people who want the gun to break the law can go and purchase their illegally much quicker. If someone wants to shoot someone, they are going to get their hands on a gun, regardless of what the law is.

I have numerous firearms, my favorite being a .357 magnum. It's always loaded, don't have to worry about a revolver firing by accident. I also have a 12 gauge and numerous other weapons. I have been fully trained and qualified for years on these weapons in the military so know how to keep them safe and ready. There are however a lot of dumb asses out there that never had any training in their life and have firearms. That is what scares me the most. The hoodie with the pistol shooting side armed and hitting everything but what he is aiming at.

Your point that an unloaded gun in a house is pretty worthless in case of a break is 100% correct. Takes too long to load it.
Gun cleaning classes are a good idea- as we had several ER incidents where a guy managed to shoot himself while attempting to clean his weapon.
