If The Playoffs Started Today Week 13

  • This is the first time in this weekly thread that I can actually state that certain teams WILL definitely be in the playoffs, as several have clinched spots. A number of races are still alive however. Here is what things would be if the playoffs started today:

    AFC

East: Patriots 9-3 have clinched this division and will be in

North: Ravens 9-3 have not clinched but hold 2 game lead with 4 to play

South: Texans 11-1 #1 seed have clinched a playoff spot but not the division, though they have a 3 game lead

West: Broncos 9-3 have clinched this division and will be in

Wildcards: Colts 8-4 and Steelers 7-5 who own tiebreaker over Bengals due to beating them earlier

In the Hunt: Bengals 7-5 (but they do have a rematch with the Steelers later)

    NFC

East: Giants 7-5 still hold division lead by a thread

North: Packers 8-4 own tie break over Bears due to beating them...they do play again later

South: Falcons 11-1 #1 seed have clinched this division

West: 49ers 8-3-1 big lead has almost dissipated

    Wildcards: Bears 8-4, Seahawks 7-5

In the hunt: Redskins, Cowboys, Vikings, Buccaneers all 6-6, and Rams 5-6-1

  • Hunt for the #1 pick. This has gotten more complex lately:

    T#1: Chiefs, Jaguars both 2-10

    T#3: Raiders/Eagles/Panthers each 3-9

    T#6: Lions/Chargers/Titans/Browns each 4-8

    T#10 Saints/Jets/Bills/Dolphins each 5-7

Right now the Browns would draft anywhere from 6th through 9th

  • Though many games could have playoff implications, these are the showdowns between teams that would actually be in contention for a playoff spot this week:

    Bears @ Vikings

    Cowboys @ Bengals

    Ravens @ Redskins

    Texans @ Patriots

  • Also note: if things hold up at the end of the season the way they are now, this would be the first time in like 15 years where there will not be at least 5 new playoff teams from the prior year.

Right now there would only be 3 new playoff teams that were not in the post season last year.:

The Bears, Colts, and Seahawks would be in.

The Lions, Saints, and Bengals would be out.

The only way now that 5 new teams could make it would be if the Giants, Packers, and/or 49ers would completely collapse. E.g. if either the Cowboys and Redskins come on and the Giants fall to about .500.

Or the Vikings would have to take down the Packers and keep winning while the Packers keep losing.

Or if the 49ers collapse and somehow the Seahawks or Rams would go on a win streak.

    All unlikely.

So, for the first time in this millenium it looks like the vast majority of playoff teams from last year will make it again this year.

Don't forget about the cardinals. They will probably stay at four wins

Yes, of course. I was just typing so fast I skipped over them. Talk about a team that needs a QB.
