Check on these.

That is sorta right, though I think it was backward. Hunt asked the NFL to expand into Dallas. The NFL didn't want to expand at that time. Then Hunt et al formed the AFL because the NFL refused expansion. As a result of the creation of the AFL, the NFL said "shit, maybe we better expand" and put franchises in Dallas and Minnesota...which were both markets the AFL wanted. The NFL did that to try to fuck up the AFL. It sorta worked. The planned Minnesota AFL team was removed and awarded to Oakland. The Dallas Texans did play in Dallas for a couple of years before deciding to move to KC...which was actually not Hunt's first choice. See my double bonus question.

Here is this week's trivia re Browns/Chiefs:
Since many have been answered, here is the final answer:
1. What is the all time Browns/Chiefs head to head regular season record?
10-10-2. Rubber match Sunday
2. The Browns and Chiefs have never met in the postseason, so, who was the Chiefs last postseason opponent?
They lost to the Ravens in 2010
3. There are two players that have made the Pro Bowl as members of the Chiefs who also played for the Browns at some point. Name these two players.
Len Dawson and Andre Bad Moon Rison
4. What Hall of Fame Player did the Chiefs draft in the first round of the 1965 draft?
Gale Sayers, but of course he was also drafted by the NFL Bears for whom he played.
5. What action taken by the NFL pissed off original Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt such that he decided to start a rival league and form the AFL?
Fairly well explained earlier. Hunt asked the NFL to expand to Dallas. They said no. So he formed his own league. After hearing about it the NFL decided it might be a good idea to expand...and to put teams in Dallas and Minnesota, targeted AFL markets.
6. Hank Stram was only Hunt's third choice for the job of Texans/Chiefs original HC. Who were the two that he offered the job to that turned him down?
First choice was legendary Oklahoma coach Bud Wilkinson. Then Tom Landry. We all know how Landry did.
Wilkinson did later become the HC of the St. Louis Cardinals...with bad results. They were ultimately better off with Stram.
7. When the Dallas Texans moved to KC, a fan vote was held to pick a new nickname for the team. The name that got the most votes was rejected by the owner of the team. What was that name? In other words, what could this team have been known as all these years.?
The Mules was the fans first choice. Then the Royals. The Kansas City Mule was the name of a popular train that went from KC to St. Louis and back. Instead, Hunt chose "The Chiefs" because at the time of the move, the Mayor of Kansas City's nickname was "The Chief".
8. Which former Chiefs HC was from the same home town as legendary Michigan HC Bo Schembechler?
That would be John Mackovic...who was born in Barberton, Ohio, as was Schembechler, as was former Broncos coach Josh McDaniel, as was Falcons GM Tom Dmitroff, as was yours truly.
Mackovic at times also served as the HC at the University of Illinois and the University of Texas...and currently is the HC of the Team USA "American Football" team that competes in a World Cup like tournament against other countries.
But here is the deal about Mackovic. He was hired in the mid 80s after a time period in which the Chiefs had not made the postseason in 15 years. What does Mackovic do? He takes the Chiefs to their first playoffs in 15 years. What do the Chiefs then do? They fire Mackovic....for what reason God only knows. They again go on a lengthy losing streak of years until the Chiefs hire Marty Schottenheimer and pick up Joe Montana.
9. FYI, Kansas City has more fountains than any city in America. What does the city do with these fountains to honor the Chiefs on a weekly basis?
Every Friday of Chiefs game week they dye the water in the fountains so that it runs red.
10. In what smallish city, known well and primarily for something completely different, was the site of the Dallas Texans training camp for their first couple of years?
Roswell, New Mexico (do I have to tell anyone what Roswell is known for?)
11. Name 3 HOF QBs that played for the Chiefs at one time.
Len Dawson, Joe Montana, Warren Moon.
12. You know that former Browns HC's Marty Schottenheimer and Romeo Crennel later went on to coach the Chiefs. What former outstanding Browns player served as their HC?
Paul Wiggin (who was a member of the defense of the last Browns title team in 1964)
Bonus information, no question: Len Dawson is the ONLY QB in NFL history to have started a game for each of the Chiefs, the Browns, and the Steelers.
But here is the bonus question: two other QBs besides Dawson have started games for both the Steelers and Browns. Name them.
Bill Nelsen and Mike Tomscak

Double Bonus question:

Hunt other two possibilities were Atlanta and Miami. At the time neither city had an NFL team....but within 5 years they both did. I believe the main reason for Hunt to choose KC over the others was simply closer proximity to his Dallas base. Either that or he may have been discouraged going into those by the AFL who was considering it own expansion.
In that mid-late 60s period, both the AFL and NFL did agree on expansion....the NFL got Atlanta and New Orleans, the AFL got Miami and Cincinnati. (previously, in response to the "AFL threat" the NFL expanded to Minnesota and Dallas in 1960-1961) The NFL also moved the Chicago Cardinals to St. Louis to lock up that market.

He was fired from a player revolt.
Guess he came off as snobbish and aloof.
Special teams coach Frank Ganz, who ended up with his job, may have had a (under)hand in his firing.

I remember that team ... they won with special teams and defense ... their offense, his specialty, was terrible.

Well, they were lousy all those years before he got there. And he wasn't the last coach to win where his specialty on one side of the ball or another wasn't so hot. Can you say offensive genius Brian Billick...whose teams won with defense and whose offense didn't score a TD in like 5 straight games?
I mean, the guy was from Barberton...there ain't never been nobody from Barberton that has a right to be snobbish. He might have been aloof. I mean, it must have been a weak ass GM or owner to let a "player revolt" dictate the firing of the first coach that got them to the playoffs in 15 years.
