Local Tv Not Carrying Browns Games

  • Toledo I understand given that it is much closer to Detroit.

On the Steelers Browns thing, my only question is: Youngstown is only 70 miles from Cleveland. WKBN is a minor station. Nearly every cable outlet in Y-town should be carrying the CBS affiliate in Cleveland, WJW, anyway, so the Browns should be on nearly everywhere there.

Unless I am mistaken about Youngstown TV?

Only WKBN.They block local cable from carrying Cleveland stations.

  • They tried pulling that shit in Dayton. I wrote to the station. They changed it to the Browns game:

The game that WHIO-TV was assigned was the Pittsburgh game. Understand that this is not a station choice, all NFL games are assigned to stations. Because the Browns were playing we did make a case for a change request and the request was granted so we will have the Browns on Sunday.

    Have a Great day!

Is there a mistake on the program listing for this Sunday? Why is the Steelers/Chargers game listed for this Sunday? The Browns are playing at the same time. Dayton was and should be a Browns station when the Bengals are not being televised. This is Ohio and there are many Browns fans in the Dayton / Cincinnati area. The Steelers / Chargers game isn't even an AFC North matchup! Please air Browns games when possible. The Browns / Chiefs game is particularly interesting because former Browns coaches, Crennel and Daboll, and former Browns players Brady Quinn and Peyotn Hillis are now on the Chiefs. Whoever scheduled the Chargers game must have made a mistake.

Great minds think alike Warren. I to live in Dayton and was shocked last week to look ahead and find the Steelers/Chargers game was being broadcast over the Browns game. I also wrote an email, however i did not receive a response, but did notice they switched the game. They must of gotten a lot of complaints. Cheers to making our voice heard and getting it changed here in the Dayton area!

With the Benglas game being broadcasted on Fox at 1pm how in the world are you showing the Steelers over the in state home team Cleveland Browns? Surely there are more viewers in Dayton and the surrounding areas that are Browns fans!

Please broadcast the Cleveland Browns game Sunday.

    Thank you for your time

  • just as many steelers fans in youngstown as there are browns. doesn't matter how many angry emails you write, because no matter what, half their viewing audience will be pissed off. it is what it is.

Who the eff gives them that right? I would get a new cable Company. Or, if something like that is perpetrated by contract with the local government then I would slip an earwig into the ear of the local poobah.

You can't fucking block a station. Maybe get the Dish or something to avoid that BS.

Yes,...based on the above it does seem like a bunch of dumbasses in Y-town.

pretty sure it's up to the cable company what stations are carried. i have time warner and i get pittsburgh's fox affiliate but none of the cleveland stations. but these decisions are made based on $$, and whether we like it or not, the steelers bring that in.

just stating facts, sir. if you want something else to be mad at, get mad at the NFL. they're the ones who allow the youngstown area to be designated a steelers market as well as a browns market. but if petty name calling makes you feel better, then by all means.....

Yup PJ has had Richardson's up his since before the draft. Google maps says Shittsburg is 5 miles closer. So?

I agree with Gipper- inquire what Directv (my preference) or Dish offer in your area for "local" stations, and if either offers Cleveland, dump cable pronto. If cable isn't offering a service you want why keep paying them? I dumped cable years ago because Time Warner was foot dragging adding HD sports channels- and didn't add NFL network until recently. DTV had it YEARS ago.

I agree. The stations decisions are based on ratings and the ability to sell the local ad slots. If showing the Steelers brings a higher rating and allows for the selling of the slots at the going rate rather than have to discount, that's what they will do....and should.

I had Direct TV and they told me choose between Cle or Ytown not both.

  • Actually the Toledo station isn't that bad but only because Detroit rarely plays at the same time and on the same station (they are normally scheduled to be played on Fox while the Browns are normally scheduled to play on CBS). They do however always play Detroit over Cleveland if there is a scheduling conflict but that only happens 1-2 times a season. It does make me rather angry when it does happen though.

The difference in distance is at most 45 minutes. Plus, the fact that Toledo is in Ohio should lead one to believe that this negligible difference should be subordinated in favor of the home state team. Of course the fringes of our state seem to have comically bad identity problems so that complicates things.

Didn't Ohio and Michigan almost have a war over that part of the State? Gipper?

Read that wiki page a few weeks ago. It's a fun read.

  • It is the NFL’s rule not the stations.

If Cleveland and Pittsburgh are both at home, then the Steelers get televised because Youngstown is considered a Cleveland market. I guess they do it to make sure they sell tickets and sell out the games. Last week was odd because both were on the road and Cleveland should have been televised. I am pretty sure Erie is considered a Cleveland market as well even though it is in Pennsylvania.

I get pissed about this as well because I have to pay for the NFL ticket to make sure I do not miss any Steelers games.

That's NOT true. When the Browns and Steelers re both home the Browns are televised. When the Browns and Steelers

are both on the road the Browns are televised. When the Browns are home and the Steelers are away the Steelers can

be televised. This is EXACTLY what the station manager told me. WKBN made an "internal decision" to override this

policy for the last two weeks which is upsetting to Browns fans when the station managers arbitrarily make these

decisions.BTW great letter in the Vindy sports section about this subject today and no it is not me.
