Browns Next Coach Will Be..........
-
What I think is this. Haslam makes the Browns more attractive. He's more hands on, but not another Jerry Jones. People lead according to the leadership style above them. Lerner was hands off. Holmgren, seemed to have take the same approach. Shurmer has lead this team as if there is not a whole lot of accountability for his actions as his press conferences seem to prove this.
Haslam seems to have energized this team. He's going to make changes, and I believe for the better. Cleveland will be a team that people will WANT to play for because Haslam seems to be the right type of owner.

Just taking a total guess, I would guess the top three in order are: Andy Reid, Nick Saban, and Mike McCoy OC for the broncos. I've been reading up on McCoy recently and frankly he seems like a great potential NFL head coach. He understand how to mold a team and in particular an offense around the teams strengths (see Tebow) and has 13 years of experience in the NFL.
Another dark horse candidate is Bill O'Brien from Penn St. I give the guy a boat load of credit for making penn st a winner this year. Not to mention he's a fruit on the all so precious bellichek tree. A lot of rumors going around that if he wants to leave he may be the most sought after coach.
Edit: Also, Chip Kelly is a guy I really hope we interview. He could totally bust in the NFL but he has the potential to revolutionize the Browns pathetic excuse for an offensive gameplan and actually use Trent and our speed guys like they should be in space.
-
Mike McCoy is interesting to me also. In 2009,Broncos QB Kyle Orton enjoyed a career year under McCoy, posting career highs in virtually every passing category. The following year, the Broncos passing attack ranked seventh in the NFL, and Orton ranked fourth in the league in passing yards per game. McCoy revamped the Broncos offense in 2011 to accommodate Tim Tebow's skill-set, and the Broncos led the NFL in rushing. ANd they beat the stoolers in the playoffs with Tebow.
Sounds like a guy who can adjust to whatever talent he has around him. That's what I want.
-
Honestly the more i think about it, the more Nick Saban might be the guy, and I know a lot of you will say that he couldnt get it done with the Dolphons, so he wont here. He did take a pitiful Dolphins team and go 15-17 in 2 years, with the likes of Gus Ferotte.
We are a defensive team, first right now, kind of like Alabama. Yes we have playmakers on offense like TRich(Bama) and Josh Gordon could be our Julio Jones type WR. We've got a solid, not great OL, I think 1 player away (maybe even Warmack from Bama).
Saban has worked with smart but not great QBs at Bama in McCaron and McElroy. Weeden hasnt shown to be the smartest QB out there, but I think he is easily better than either of those guys, talent-wise. We just need to make sure he makes smart decisions.
I feel we have the personnel in place for Saban to come in and be successful right away. We wouldn't have to change a whole heck of a lot I dont think.

yes. whoever comes in can't start making personnel changes based on what type of system he wants to run.
shurmur's problem is that he was tied to holmgren and his system and personnel likes and dislikes.
well shurmur can thank holmgren for picking weeden and costing him his job.
yesterday wasw the biggest game to date for shurmur to give haslam cause to keep him around. him and his QB shit the bed.

I posted this once before, but I have adjusted it slightly:
1) Mike McCoy - Denver OC - A great offensive coach. Understands the importance of running the football and has proven that he can adapt his system to his players instead of vice versa.
2) Chip Kelly - Oregon - His understanding of offense and playing uptempo could bring the kind of identity and attitude this team has lacked for a long time, plus it would be a good fit for Weeden. With so many young players, it might benefit us to utilize our youth and bring some excitement to Cleveland.
3) Nick Saban - Alabama - Can't argue with his college success. He runs a pro-style offense in Bama and has some NFL experience. Plus, his ties to possible new GM Lombardi make him a viable option to come to cleveland.
4) Bruce Arians - Colts - can't argue with what he has done in his career, especially this season where he has been the interim HC and has been calling plays.
5) David Shaw - Stanford - He has had success running a pro-style offense in college. Plus, look at what he did with Andrew Luck.
I'm sure there are other coordinators out there (the guy from GB comes to mind), but this is what I have for right now.

I'd lose all faith in Haslam if he let's a new guy come in and change the D to 3-4.
Out of all the popular names I'll agree McCoy seems like the best choice.
He's only 40, former QB, decent amount of coaching experience, got to like what's he's done in Denver.

He was also on the coaching staff in Carolina when they made the Superbowl

Mike McCoy was an offensive assistant in Carolina when they had Jake Delhomme lead them to the Superbowl, and he was in charge of the offense in Denver when he had Tim Tebow lead them to a playoff victory over the stooolers. Those 2 things are pretty impressive feats

3 people I would like
Saban- He is a Outstanding coach, the Fit down in Miami did not work so he hauled ass. Cleveland guy who understands what Cleveland is all about Remember what he said to TRich when we drafted him
Mccoy- His track recored speaks for itself, what he has done as a OC is crazy, granted this year might be his easiest year. " Hey Peyton I am going to go play 18 holes today you got this right"
Reid- I am telling you this guy can coach!!!! His track record speaks for itself. The one mistake he made was putting all his eggs in the Vick basket. I think he would be outstanding plus he still is hungry for a ring that he came up short on.
If I had to guess how the Browns feel it would be in order of Reid, Saban, then Mccoy

We're a really young football team, but our Offensive and Defensive Coordinators are older than dirt. Shurmur is a guy that will grow on you but still rub you the wrong way, I'd have to say ditch him. We're going to need a New Head Coach, New Offensive and Defensive Coaches and possibly a New General Manager. The team is young and feisty but the Coaches need an overhaul.
I don't think Weeden is the Guy.

...Is that Paul Brown clone ready yet?

Saban is 62+ years old. I bet Haslam will want a younger coach that will stay in Cleveland for a long time. Plus, Saban can't coach. He can only recruit. And that won't help in the NFL..

LOL you win as much as he has won with out knowing how to coach

Don't scoff at Big Phil yet...think about this for just a minute.
In the College Football HOF
Won a National Championship
2 SEC Championships
6 SEC Easter Division Titles
151-52-1(.743 W-L%)
8 Bowl wins
Most important a close friend of Jimmy H.and he's unemployed...plus getting close to collecting social security which means he would agree to a lower salary.
Just having some fun here, I know Big Phil is staying in Knoxville. It would be one hell of a bombshell though.
I'm guessing if Jimmy wanted to kick the Haslam era off on the wrong foot this would just about do it.

Phil Fullmer was fired by Tennesse... So yes, that would be an awful idea.

Guys that I think may be in the radar:
1. Saban. Why?: a. Haslam will want to get him out of the SEC so his Vols will have a chance...and Haslam will like the SEC connection. And Haslam would give Saban most of the football authority b. he has done everything he can do in college (especially if he wins again) which leads to c. Saban will want to prove to himself he can succeed in the NFL.
I think the Haslam connection...and the fact that Saban is a Kent State alum and former Browns DC would make the Browns more appealing to him than most other teams. d. there is young talent here as well that Saban could mold into his image.
2. Gruden. Why?: As I said elsewhere, those rumors about him going to UT and getting a piece of the Browns was a garbled rumor. It was "he is going to the orange and brown" and coaching the Browns.
3. Josh McDaniels. Why? a. Haslam could see McDaniels as a Belichick clone, i.e. a guy that was not successful in his first gig but who could come back and make a big name for himself on his second time around. b. Robert Kraft and Haslam are now buddies and Kraft has been mentoring Haslam in ownership style....and may have reccomended McDaniels for the job. c. McDaniels is a local guy, though that means little it may still be a poker chip.
I do not see strictly college coaches like Kelly etc. getting the nod. I do not think Bill O'Brien will leave Penn St. in the lurch.
I will also defer to you all about some of the coordinators....like McCoy whom several mentioned. I am just not familiar enough with them......but.....I do agree that if Haslam wants to follow the Steelers model, that is exactly the type of direction he may want to go.
