If The Playoffs Started Today After Week 15

  • If the playoffs started today here is who would be in:

    AFC

East Patriots 10-4 clinched division and hold the 3rd seed in the AFC

North Ravens 9-5 have clinched a playoff spot, but not the division. Would currently hold 4th seed

South Texans 12-2 clinched division and hold #1 seed

West Broncos 11-3 clinched division and hold #2 seed

Wildcards Colts 9-5 and Bengals 8-6

    In the hunt: Steelers 7-7

The scenario in the AFC North is the most intriguing. The Bengals have games remaining against both the Steelers and the Ravens. If they win both, they win the AFC North title. If they beat the Steelers on Sunday I believe they clinch a WC. If they lose, they could still get a WC if they beat the Ravens and the Browns beat the Steelers.

The Steelers could possibly win the division if they beat the Bengals and Browns, and the Ravens lose to the Giants and the Bengals.

    NFC

East Redskins 8-6 hold division lead by virtue of better division record over Cowboys and Giants, both also 8-6

North Packers 10-4 clinched division and hold #3 seed

South Falcons 12-2 clinched division and hold #1 seed

West 49ers 10-3-1 clinched playoff spot but not division. Would hold #2 seed

    Wildcards Seahawks 9-5

Second wildcard spot is between 8-6 Giants, Vikings, Cowboys, and Bears.

I have read that Vikings currently hold tiebreaker....but I am not sure how.

With that many teams I understand that first tiebreaker is head to head. Unless the Vikings have defeated all of the other 3 teams, I would think that the best conference record would be the tie breaker, and the Giants lead in that category with a 7-4 conference record.

( I note that the Vikings have played neither the Giants or Cowboys this year)

  • "Race" for the #1 overall draft pick:

T1&2: Chiefs and Jaguars, both 2-12

    T 3,4,5: Lions, Eagles, Raiders each 4-10

T6-11: Bills, Browns, Titans, Chargers, Panthers, Cardinals each 5-9

T12-15: Jets, Dolphins, Saints, Buccanneers each 6-8

    16: Rams 6-7-1

  • Important games this week:

#1 Bengals vs. Steelers decision time for AFC wildcard berth

#2 49ers vs. Seahawks division clinching/wildcard clinching game for both

#3 Vikings vs. Texans #1 seed at stake for Houston/wildcard at stake for Vikings

#4 Giants vs. Ravens division lead at stake for both/wildcard at stake for Giants

    Other games impacting races:

Thursday Lions vs. Falcons a win clinches #1 overall seed for Falcons

Pats vs. Jaguars seeding at stake for Pats

Broncos vs. Browns seeding at stake for Broncos (and possibly #1 seed if Texans falter)

Colts vs. Chiefs Colts could clinch a WC spot

Redskins/Eagles NFCE and WC spots in the balance for Skins

Cowboys vs. Saints NFCE and WC spots in the balance for Cowboys

Bears vs. Cardinals WC spot in the balance for Bears
