Tyler Bray Declares For Nfl Draft

The Browns Board

  • No thanks

  • The owner does love Tennessee. Get ready for those connections.

  • I very much believe that Haslam may have guaranteed Bray to be drafted in the NFL. Kind of like a "Hey, if you're still on the board by [insert round here], we'll take you." That's really the only reason I can think for Bray coming out.

  • Possibly, but I think that is a stretch.

I think the bigger reason is a new coach and a new system. A system that really won't help his stock. Sticking around could actually hurt his draft standing.

  • I think he came out because Tennessee is a disaster, bringing in a new coach, hes losing his best weapon, the draft currently lacks QB's, and theres plenty of QB starved teams. He's projected in the 2nd now, I guarantee he doesnt make it past the first barring a horrible combine/workout

  • sounds like Mark Sanchez, iffy college QB who rockets up draft boards due tp lack of other QBs in the class..

  • Bray...NO WAY! If he couldn't get it done against SEC opponents he sure as hell won't cut it in the NFL.

  • Bray came out because his WRs are leaving and his HC got fired. I doubt a guy who is going to be a senior wants to deal with all that. He is good project QB, but we need a NFL ready guy or not even go there.

Tennessee being terrible isn't his fault.

Plus, the SEC is filled with some of the best defenses in college football, your statement makes no sense.

He is 6'5" and has a very good arm. He would not be a bad QB prospect to grab. Especially since he is very good at delivering the ball to bigger receivers which we very may well feature next season (Gordon, Little, Cameron)

If we miss out on Jones, I would not hate a move like this

Because certain people think the SEC can do no worng. I am not one of them. 6th round would be good for him

  • We can start someone over Bray if we were to draft him.

  • If they don't think Weeden is the answer, then we HAVE to get someone. Because watching McCoy play was the most depressing moment of my life.

  • Id defentily take a chance on him, Weeden sucks dick....If you could get him in the 3rd you do it no questions asked

  • I like Weeden, I like Colt. I'm sure they are both great people. But we need swagger, not "aw shucks". I thought Weeden had it, but he does not. I was wrong. I thought what we needed was most of all was maturity and competence, but I was mistaken. What we need is an absolute leader and a playmaker. Someone with passion and charisma, someone people want to watch.

Look at Russell Wilson in Seattle. Supplants Flynn for the starting job and hasn't looked back since, despite being a 5'10 3rd round pick. He exudes confidence and is used to winning, and that has seeped into the rest of the team. A year ago, nobody wanted to be in Seattle. Now people are talking about them, the team is playing outside of their minds and they have absolutely trounced the last three teams they've played.

Same with RG3, althought some would say that is to be expected of a 2nd overall pick. He's completely changed the Skins, and has brought national attention to a once-great team that was recently treading the waters of obscurity.

Anyone who says they'd rather have Weeden than Wilson is either lying or stupid. Fuck comparisons and measurables. If there's a 4'2, 110 QB who can throw for 40 TDs and 3 INTs then that's who we get. End of story.

We need a playmaker. If it's Bray, it's Bray. But I don't think it is. But there has to be someone.

  • That guy is Geno Smith, by the way.

  • Weeden would have plenty of swagger in a Mike Martz style of system. People over analyze the player and forget the system of the coach. When it is broke, no player will make it work.

Considering Holmgren began shying away from Shurmur last year after he said he was going to help him plan for games, told me alot: Mike knew he was as a dud before the first snap of the 2011 season.

It has nothing to do with the system. It has to do with the personality of the player.

Wrong. The system creates the player. Peyton Manning doesn't like WCO offense and doesn't use it. Nor would he go to a team that did. Likewise, Weeden shouldn't expect any less than plenty of vertical passing and a coach who pushes him to do so.

I think we have to understand, that Shurmur's system is one of the most extreme example of trying to prevent mistakes by bringing everybody up to the line of scrimmage offenses out there. He really goes overboard. There are several times a game, we don't even move pass catchers beyond 3-5 yards.

The idea is it will create some TD's because defenses will over pursue at the line, and it did. But not enough and Shurmur did not call his shot enough. A vet QB may have been able to do so more of the time, but you are talking about a vet. Weeden may be that Vet at 31, which is still plenty young, but Shurmur didn't have that time.

The offensive design and playcalling didn't work. It simply didn't. Browns fans love to bash the players to much, but in this case, it starts with the coach.

I'm not talking about Weeden's production, or lack thereof. I'm not talking about the system. I'm not talking about the coaching. That's what you fail to understand. I'm talking about the intangibles. I'm talking to what Russell Wilson and RG3 has brought to dying franchises. They brought excitement and renewed interest.

If you want to talk about scheming and philosophies, then I am all for it. And I agree, Shurmur's version of the WCO was outdated and ineffective. His failure to adapt not only to his player's strengths but to the game as it is played today is what ultimately proved to be his downfall.

Weeden may or may not prove to be a good QB. I hope that he does, because I've been singing his praises all season. But he has not shown that he is capable of being a franchise changing figurehead, and at this point that is what Cleveland needs. The Browns need a LeBron. Someone to get the people interested again. The franchise is fading into obscurity and Lerner did nothing to change that. Haslam, on the other hand, seems to be interested in putting Cleveland back on the map.

That's why I feel that we're going QB high in the draft. Not because of Weeden. But because of the decisions of Haslam thus far.
