  • The 1932 NFL Playoff Game was the first ever playoff game held by the National Football League (NFL), the major professional American football sports league in the United States. Due to extremely cold weather, the game was played indoors on December 18, 1932 at Chicago Stadium in Chicago. The final score was Chicago Bears 9, Portsmouth Spartans 0.

The game paved the way for a new era of professional American football. After following the rules of college football for its first 13 years of existence, the NFL began to develop its own rules. The popularity of the game also led the league to start holding annual playoff games. Thus, the 1932 NFL Playoff Game is sometimes unofficially called the 1932 NFL Championship Game.

Furthermore, the game is regarded as the first ever major indoor football game, although this is only true inasmuch as it was the first such game in the forward pass era. A series of matchups in 1902 and 1903, known as the World Series of Football, were held indoors in New York City in an effort to determine the nation's best professional team.

    FINAL ANSWERS:

    1. Which two teams played in the very first official playoff game in NFL history in 1933?

The first official game was: Bears 23, Giants 21. Yes, the prior year there was an unofficial postseason game, but the winner of that was not awarded the NFL championship.

    2. Which team has appeared in both the AFC and NFC Championship game?

Seattle Seahawks....who were moved from the AFC to the NFC about 15 years ago.

    3. For the 10 year period from 2001 to 2010 (that was being dominated in the AFC by the Pats/Colts/Steelers) how many different NFC teams won NFC championships?

In those 10 years there were 10 different NFC champions

...it is better to list those who did NOT win NFC titles in those years: Cowboys/Redskins/Falcons/Lions/Vikings/49ers

    4. In the new Millenium 2000- present, which NFC team has lost the most NFC title games?

The Eagles lost in 01/02/03/09 and they won 1 game.

    5. Which team that has appeared more than once in the NFC Championship game (1970-present) has the best winning pct. in those games?

The NY Giants are 5-0 in the NFC title games in which they appeared.

    6. What is the only team to have never appeared in a conference championship game?

    The Houston Texans

    7. Which team that has appeared more than once in the AFC Championship game (1970-present) has the best winning pct. in those games?

The Cincinnati Bengals are 2-0 in the AFC Championship games they have appeared in.

    8. Which team has lost the most AFC Championship games (1970-present) without winning one?

The NY Jets are 0-4 in AFC title games. Their one win in 1968 was prior to the full merger.

    9. What has been the most frequent matchup(s) in the AFC title game (1970-present)?

The Steelers and Raiders have met 3 times, as have the Browns and Broncos.

    10. What has been the most frequent matchup in the NFC title game (1970-present)?

The Cowboys and 49ers have met 6 times.

    11. The Cleveland Browns hold the record for appearing in the most consecutive league championship games with 10. And even if you don't include AAFC years they still hold the record with 6. Only two other teams in history have ever appeared in 4 consecutive league championship games. Name the teams and the years (or at least the era)

The 40/41/42/43 Bears and the 90/91/92/93 Bills

    12. What rule change was made as a result of the way the 1945 NFL Championship game was decided? Hint...all aspects of this would be irrelevent in today's game.

That game was decided in the Rams favor when Redskins QB Sammy Baugh threw a pass from his end zone and hit the goal post....which at that time was on the goal line and not the end line. The Rams were awarded a 2 point safety and won the game by a 15-14 score, the safety being the margin of victory. Immediately after that game the rule was changed to simply make a pass hitting the goal post an incomplete pass. Later of course the goal posts were placed on the end line....thus removing any relevency of the rule....but for that one time that rule did decide a championship.

    13. Since the advent of the Super Bowl in 1966, which AFL/AFC team has lost the most AFL/AFC conference title games?

The Oakland Raiders have lost 9. Yes, in theory the Raiders could have appeared in an additional 9 Super Bowls.

If you only go from 1970 the Raiders would be tied with the Steelers for most AFC Conference game losses with 7 each.

(of course, the Steelers also have the most wins with 😎

    14. What team has lost the most NFC conference title games.

The 49ers have lost 8 NFC title games.

    15. From 1933 to 1965 there were a total of 33 NFL championship games (pre-SB NFL title games)....or 66 participants. • 8. Which team has lost the most AFC Championship games (1970-present) without winning one?

The NY Jets are 0-4 in AFC title games. Their one win in 1968 was prior to the full merger.

Additional historical note about this: though the Jets are 0-4 in AFC title games.....in the final game leading up to a Super Bowl appearance they are 1-4, winning obviously in 1968.

the Browns however are 0-5 in the games that lead up to a Super Bowl appearance. They lost the NFL© title games in 1968 to the Colts (losers to the Jets), 1969 to the Vikings (losers to the Chiefs), and the AFC title games in 1986, 1987, and 1989 to the Broncos (loser to the Giants/Redskins/49ers).

As you can say, it did those teams no good to lose to the Browns....they lost every SB game after that.
