  • At this point, I'd like to see them interview Kyle Shanahan, Mike Zimmer, & Mike McCoy (after the Super Bowl if we still have the opening). Time will tell, but it's fun watching the Browns hierarchy interview more than ONE HC candidate. Haslam & Banner are finally bringing some credibility & professionalism back to the Browns.

Haslam and Banner have been all talk...So far they act like a gutless duo of nincompoops

How do you know? Kelly did the same exact thing to Tampa last year. If the guy's heart is in Oregon, money might not be what pulls him away from that place. This Kelly situation reminds me of Lebron leaving. We offered him everything, but he was going to play with his buddies in Miami. I don't know if the Browns offered everything, but it seems like a smart business move to rescind the offer if Mary Kay Cabot is right, and the guy didn't feel like he was 100% into it.

  • Are you trying to make a point?

  • It certainly seems like he's not 100% into it. There are only 32 NFL head coaching jobs and this guy has been offered 3 of them in the last 2 years and hasn't taken any of them. I would've walked from him too.

Hey homo...we are trying to keep all of the coaching rumors and discussion in one place. Can you please try to follow along?

Don't worry....I'll move it for you.

  • One of these horrible rumours are going to come true and bite the OP right on the ass.

BTW...this was Zombo saying that Marc Trestman was the new head coach...

  • Wow these candidates names keep getting worse and worse. Sorry but a coach from the CFL??

At this point just bring back freaking Shurmur, this "aggressive" search has turned into just taking whatever is left. It's sad that the University of Akron, one of the worst football programs in the country was able to organize a better coaching "search" than a supposed NFL franchise.

I just wanted to go all dicknuts on you to see how quickly the mods were on this shit ... I'm impressed.

BTW ... he was Bernie's OC in 89 ... imagine the speculation of Bernie coming back.

He's now the head coach of Montreal.

Apparently there is still a football league in Canada.

Not sure if he is the "strong leader" type they had in mind originally.

Lombardi and Trestman ... Maybe Eric Zeier for OC.

  • I've been on this shit all day. Trestman interviewed for the Bears job today. I still like Zimmer, McCoy, Shannahan. Let's hope we're contacting the Redskins first thing in the morning to talk to young Kyle.

dude there plenty of great coaches still out there. smith zimmer haslett wisenhunt to name a few defensive guys who if you promoted jauron could take that position or become the HC. i like kyle shanahan but believe he is too young and inexperienced. i doubt if he or mcdaniels would settle on being an OC since they're better off where they are already.

Why would either of them leave playoff teams where they are the OC to come to our 5 win team for the same job? The only way either of them leave their respective teams is if they are getting a head coaching job. Neither will leave for a lateral move.

  • yeah. thinking out loud is all.

mcdaniels and shanahan jr. might be able to call a good game but it doesn't mean they can lead a team. i'm gonna sound like an old fart here, but there is something to be said about experience. i mean would you respect some young punk walking into your office as your new boss? yeah you can win them over if you're winning games but if not, they're the easiest to blame and easiest to quit on.

Then bring in someone who can win. Someone like the Harbaughs or Tomlin. Not a pantywaist like Shurmur.

You guys are missing the real story, although a poster or two has touched upon it.

The BIG issue is not whether or not Chip Kelly will be good or not, nobody has such a chrystal ball. The real issue is that The CLeveland Browns are not able to land ANYONE they really want, whether it be a HC or a FA player.

Nobody of any value wants to play or work in Cleveland. Why is this? Certainly, speaking for myself, if I had to move to teh Cleveland area I would resent it and be depressed. This is not exactly a place that has a lot to offer people.

Is that the only reason we can't get top players and coaches?

Hey, common now! We got a Casino, cigars, women in hose, etc.

  • A young coach in Shanahan with a very young team would seem ideal IMO.

Dick Jauron as HC? Dear Lord please no. 60-82 as HC? No thanks.

hey not everyone does it in their first go round. look at pete carroll and tell me you wouldn't want him as the browns HC. shanahan looks like doogie howser. a 260 lb 6'3" LB getting yelled at by a twirp? don't think so.

  • Browns interviewing Tom(Tim)? Gamble, director of player personnel for the 49ers. Good Choice? for a GM.

  • Sources: No Chip Kelly for Browns

The Cleveland Browns have decided to reboot their coach search after leaving Arizona late Sunday morning without landing Oregon's Chip Kelly, according to league sources.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam III will renew the search at "square one" once his executive contingent, including CEO Joe Banner is stationed back in Cleveland after interviewing eight candidates in Arizona.

Kelly and Syracuse coach Doug Marrone emerged as the leading candidates but Marrone reached an agreement to become the next coach of the Buffalo Bills.

The Philadelphia Eagles are the only other NFL team known to have interviewed Kelly. League sources believe the chances of Kelly returning to Oregon were significant with a decision expected Sunday.

Kelly has built the Ducks into a national power. Oregon has gone 46-7 in the last four years and made four consecutive BCS bowl games. Kelly run's a high-octane, fast-breaking offense, and elements of his schemes are already being used by New England and Washington.

If he returns to the Eugene, Ore., campus, Kelly may be facing NCAA sanctions as the school is being investigated for recruiting violations.

Haslam and Banner had been in Arizona since firing Pat Shurmur last week. Shurmur went 9-23 in two seasons with Cleveland, which is seeking its sixth full-time coach since 1999.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

    ============================

Glad to see Mike Zimmer get a mention or two... Hadn't thought of him until Mike Mayott mentioned him during the Texans/ Bengals broadcast. Top notch defensive coord and appears to be intense and then some. I think he's worth a look...

As for the Saban hypothetical... ummm... nope... don't see it, but wouldn't mind it. Roll Tide... 😎

Still waiting for Tressel's name to surface...

And somewhere in the wings is a Mangenius in waiting. I know it's far from the consensus 'round here, but I think he was hosed by Holmgren out of one more year.
