Alex Smith Gone...will We Try And Land A Blockbuster

He wants too much money, and will he return to form? I would pass and spend the money on other players.

like i said i don't know the #'s, but in this day and age of restructuring contracts anything is possible.
it's just hard to believe. either everyone over-rated the guy in the first place or did one of those "i got paid, and now i'm gonna relax" type deals. i would think the guy would have some self-respect. everyone says he's a class act on and off the field. i really doubt if his NFL accumen just flew out the window.

You must be high, we could draft Millner this year or get another next!
-
There are likely to be 4 or five other DB's out there on the market who were starting and playing better last year, who would probably command lower salaries if we go the FA route here I would look at one of those hard keep in mind he is 31 now. Smith in Miami is 25 I think.

hey if milner is there i'd take him. but i'm not the front office. if all is said and done and we haven't addressed a CB opposite haden.....let's just put it this way...if we sit on our hands again in FA like we have in the past 4 years i'll be pissed.
and yeah cambridge i am high.

I think teams have to use 90% of cap space this season so the Browns will definitely spend - just hope they bring in some impact players and not overpay scrubs like Heckert did.

i agree with the heckert comment. i really think he did a decent job in drafting (don't forget he had to abide by the heavy hand of holmgren breathing down his neck. i'm sure there were some picks he didn't agree with, notably QBs 2 years straight....) BUT his allegiance to philly and their players ticked me off. it was like mangini with the jets.

With smith now in KC the cheifs will cut Castle is he the possible competition for weeds?

I understand that he may be in line to go back to backing up Brady in NE. I honestly don't think the Pats are all that high on Mallet.

i take this with a grain of salt because it came from the bleacher report BUT
they have us signing FAs
QB matt moore - from miami
LB cliff avril - from detroit
LB anthony spencer - from dallas
if they're right do we still go after LB with our number one pick? i guess it will depend on if, how and when these players of interest sign.
not for nothing those LBs would be a HUGE addition. HUGE!!!!!

I'd take Matt Moore over Matt Cassel.
Cassel wouldn't be an upgrade over McCoy IMO, Moore would really push Weeds.

I really can't blame people for still thinking this is true, cause gross I still hasn't figured it out either.
Go to draftbrowns.com for the article....I'm on my phone.
The salary floor is not 90% of every year, its actually 89% of total cap over the next 4 years....2013-16, 2017-2020. This still gives flexibility and sets us in agreat opposition. I'll simplify the math a bit as its easier to see than describe.
Lets say the cap is set at 125mil over the next 4 years. Total cap 500mil, which means teams would have to spend 450mil over the next 4 years. However, there is no language for each particular year....meaning we could still be cheap this year if we wanted to max out the next 3. Now, that's very unlikely to happen.....but all this really means is that we SHOULD spend some money. But we don't have to.....the absolute minimum would be 75mil if we maxxed out the last 3 years, which we're already at.
The last year (2016,2020) will be the only years where we know the actually floor we have to hit.

Avril cannot defend the run and is not agile enough to defend TE's in space as an OLB. Browns will not sign him. Stop reading bleacher report, they completely suck.
I really hope they don't waste money on matt moore, what a waste.
On another note: Baylor's offense really was ridiculous the last couple years..
RG3 - 1st round.
Gordon - Second, but will be an All-Pro soon.
Kendall Wright - 1st round
This year, Baylor WR Terrance Williams is expected to be a 1st rounder, right behind Patterson/UT, Austin/UWV, and Allen/Cal.
