  • I didn't watch it, don't have time to sit down for an hour, but here's a relevant quote:

The real owners are the big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians, they're an irrelevancy. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They've long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the statehouses, the city halls. They've got the judges in their back pockets. And they own all the big media companies, so that they control just about all of the news and information you hear. They've got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want; they want more for themselves and less for everybody else.

But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them. That's against their interests. They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago

You know what they want? Obedient workers people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork but just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And, now, they're coming for your Social Security. They want your fucking retirement money. They want it back, so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it all, sooner or later, because they own this fucking place. It's a big club, and you ain't in it. You and I are not in the big club.

    This country is finished.

    RIP George Carlin

I'd say the quote about hit the nail on the head. Politicians just make a show for people to fall behind. The fat cats sit back and laugh.

Hey, now. If you haven't listened to the Beatles and Elvis at 78 RPM, don't knock it. It's great. Three chipmunks singing "Norwegian Wood" and "Heartbreak Hotel" is awesome...

I was so much older back then, I'm younger than that now.

I can't speak to having kids man (I never will never), I don't profess to know what it is like to be a parent. But I think the point is they cannot figure it out for themselves. I guess growing up with all older bros and sisters helped, I was able to buy my first album, The Police, Synchronicity at 5 and know all the lyrics to Ride the Lightening and The Misfits at 9. But that was art man. Maybe I didn't know it, but you listen to the music and not worry what beer James Hetfield is drinking. Now it a bombardment or who give a fuck. Even MTV barley did that, maybe an hourly update in the mid 90's. Head bangers ball once a week.

    I don't know...

I respect your choice, but honestly I think you're missing out. In the early '00s I was the guy that said I'd never have kids but I'm glad I was wrong. It's our biological imperative, for one, our only real purpose in life, but above and beyond that, its the most real, most satisfying love there is. It's cool, I'm not telling you what you should be doing but I'm glad I made the choices I did.

Yea Cysko, I guess I am selfish in that sense. I like to hear that a band in playing in Richmond or Norfolk and take off for night. My sister tells me it's like waking for Christmas every day having kids. Sorry fuck that noise. I can barely take care of a dog, lol. I am happy with no kids.

That begs the point again. How does this information filter to kids vs when we were kids.

I am NOT making a value judgement on anybody - and for the most part, I remember the same cartoons....

what I am saying is the bombarding of messages in popular culture that can capture a young mind into a lifestyle that they may not be ready to

deal with... like having sex and worse-getting pregnant- because my concern is for my two daughters-

I really dont appreciate Lady GaGa or that cartoon Nicki Minaj having any influence on them-

but they do.. why? because I let them listen to their music (groan) and give them the leeway to figure it out for themselves..

all the while giving them the instruction and discpline that any good parent will do for their kids. along with forgiving them & loving them when it seems impossible to do!

like your mom and grandma did for you.

Good on you for being cool with not having kids. I imagine it's annoying to have to explain to your family members when you start getting older.

Also, I've gotta ask, if you think kids can't figure it out for themselves, then why and how did the first person start challenging the status quo?

Not annoying, I told my family years ago I don't want kids (my mom's passed so that helps). I'm 37 and my girl is 44, it's just not for me, kids.

I think for the most part kids don't know shit. But you do get some forward thinkers at times, even the 14 MIT geniuses don't get life until they experience it. Kids don't figure it out until they are on their own having to learn from life, not a YouTube video how to tie their shoes.

I know man. I think it is a bit selfish (self realization) that I don't want to share my time with a kid.

  • As for the this country is finished quote...

I honestly and truly believe that anyone, and I mean anyone, that spends much of his or her time fuming about somebody else having power is wasting time.

Yes folks, there's somebody really really rich and powerful out there.

So you can Rage Against the 98 against 2 percent.

Rage louder when it becomes 98.5 against 1.5.

Stand up and cheer if it slides to 97.5 against 2.5.

I'm by no means a Christian but I do believe we should be thankful for what we have.

I personally don't think often of corporate greed.

The most damaging greed, as I see it, is from the people who have enough to eat at a place to live and friends who spend time being angry that the guy next door or in the next city has more and nicer stuff.

Those that exploit that particular greed in order to gain power or riches are particularly unsavory in my opinion.

Oh of course there are some people who are so truly destitute that it's hard to imagine. still that doesn't even come close to including any of us.
