Draft Trivia Time
-
The draft is only like one month away, and while Browns fans have been geeked up on Free Agency, the draft IS just around the corner. Thus, here are some initial draft trivia offerings. I would have to say these are quite difficult:
1. Who was the first ever NFL draftee to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Note that the NFL draft began in 1936. Another note: despite this person's high draft status and HOF status, he is not really that well known of a name.
2. Who currently is the most recently drafted player to be inducted into the PFHOF. Hint: yes, he is from the most recent class of inductees.
3. Only one player drafted in 1954 and only one player drafted in 1955 have ever made the PFHOF, and they ultimately played together. Name these sole draftees from those draft classes.
4. Which draft year produced the most Hall of Famers with 10? (name as many as you can)
5. What do these players have in common: Doak Walker, Dick LeBeau, Henry Jordan, Doug Atkins, Willie Davis, Art Donovan, Bobby Mitchell, Jim Langer?
6. In another thread it was discussed what it was to be a Cleveland/NE Ohio sports fan. Let's see how you do on this: name the player or players from each of these local NEOhio colleges who were drafted by the Cleveland Browns:
University of Akron: 1 player:
Baldwin-Wallace: 1 player:
Heidelberg: 1 player:
John Carroll: 3 players:
Kent St.: 2 players:
Note: the Browns have never drafted a player from any of these schools: Oberlin, Hiram, Lakeland, Mt. Union, Tiffin, Walsh, Wooster, Youngstown St., Case Western, Malone
7. Since 1950 the Browns have selected 46 Quarterbacks in the regular and supplemental drafts. Only 3 of those selected ever made the Pro Bowl. Name those 3.
8. Since 1999 the Browns have drafted 7 Quarterbacks. Name those 7 QBs AND the colleges they attended.
9. Re those 46 QBs drafted since 1950, there are 5 colleges from which 2 QBs each were selected. Name those 5 schools.
10. Which team used 2 #1 overall draft picks to select 2 Quarterbacks in essentially the same year?
Bonus: Who is the only Quarterback taken with the #1 overall pick of the entire draft who never started a single game in his career. Hint: it wasn't Jay Berwanger who was #1 overall in 1936. He was not a QB.

10. Which team used 2 #1 overall draft picks to select 2 Quarterbacks in essentially the same year?
Cowboys drafted Aikman in 89 and used their 90 1st round in the 89 supplemental to draft Steve Walsh.

1983 is wrong, thus the players you mention are not the right names.
5. What do these players have in common: Doak Walker, Dick LeBeau, Henry Jordan, Doug Atkins, Willie Davis, Art Donovan, Bobby Mitchell, Jim Langer?
Hall of Famers for other teams that were drafted by the Browns.
Check....and ain't that a kick in the ass.

You got all 7 name but Wynn was not from North Texas (a different Texas school). Otherwise the answers you gave were right. Then there is McCown' alma mater.
9. Re those 46 QBs drafted since 1950, there are 5 colleges from which 2 QBs each were selected. Name those 5 schools.

OK, here is the deal guys: as long as I am commissioning the Browns Board Mock Draft, I will suspend any trivia. Here are the answers to these:
1. Who was the first ever NFL draftee to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Note that the NFL draft began in 1936. Another note: despite this person's high draft status and HOF status, he is not really that well known of a name.
Joe Stydahar, who was the #6 pick of the 1936 draft.
2. Who currently is the most recently drafted player to be inducted into the PFHOF. Hint: yes, he is from the most recent class of inductees.
Jonathan Ogden, the only HOFer from the 1996 draft to date.
3. Only one player drafted in 1954 and only one player drafted in 1955 have ever made the PFHOF, and they ultimately played together. Name these sole draftees from those draft classes.
Raymond Berry is the only player from the entire 1954 draft in the HOF and Johnny Unitas is the only person from the 1955 draft in the HOF.
4. Which draft year produced the most Hall of Famers with 10? (name as many as you can)
1964: Bob Brown, Carl Eller, Charley Taylor, Paul Warfield, Mel Renfro, Paul Krause, Dave Wilcox, Bob Hayes, Leroy Kelly, and Roger Staubach
5. What do these players have in common: Doak Walker, Dick LeBeau, Henry Jordan, Doug Atkins, Willie Davis, Art Donovan, Bobby Mitchell, Jim Langer?
Yes, all drafted by or owned by the Browns but traded or let go, only to go on to HOF careers.
6. In another thread it was discussed what it was to be a Cleveland/NE Ohio sports fan. Let's see how you do on this: name the player or players from each of these local NEOhio colleges who were drafted by the Cleveland Browns:
Admittedly, some of these are far too obscure to have been gotten:
University of Akron: 1 player: Charlie Frye QB 2005, 3rd round
Baldwin-Wallace: 1 player: Tom Goosby OG/LB 1962, 15th round
Heidelberg: 1 player: Bob Hunt RB 1952, 14th round
John Carroll: 3 players:
Don Shula DB 1951, 9th round
Carl Taseff HB 1951, 22d round
Burrell Shields HB 1952 6th round
Kent St.: 2 players: Rich Mostadi DB 1961, 12th round. Larry Poole RB 1975 9th round.
Milt Plum, Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar
8. Since 1999 the Browns have drafted 7 Quarterbacks. Name those 7 QBs AND the colleges they attended.
Weeden, Okla. St.
McCoy, Texas
Quinn, Notre Dame
Frye, Akron
Spergeon Wynn, Texas St.
Luke McCown, La Tech.
Tim Couch, Kentucky
9. Re those 46 QBs drafted since 1950, there are 5 colleges from which 2 QBs each were selected. Name those 5 schools.
The Browns in their history have drafted 2 each from: Kentucky, Duke, Toledo, Purdue, Iowa
10. Which team used 2 #1 overall draft picks to select 2 Quarterbacks in essentially the same year?
The Cowboys who selected Troy Aikman #1 overall, then used the first pick in the first round on supplemental pick Steve Walsh.
Bonus: Who is the only Quarterback taken with the #1 overall pick of the entire draft who never started a single game in his career. Hint: it wasn't Jay Berwanger who was #1 overall in 1936. He was not a QB.
It is Bobby Garrett drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the #1 overall pick in 1954.
Note: Terry Baker, #1 overall pick of the Rams in 1962 started all of ONE game in the pros; and, Randy Duncan, #1 overall pick by the Packers in 1959 started all of two games in his career.
The scouting methods for QBs has improved greatly since the 50s/60s...though some monumental busts still occur. See Jamarcus Russell.
