Happy César Chávez Day! (HUH?)

Happy César Chávez Day!
Wait…what?
That’s right. Did you think it was Easter or something? Not according to Google and Barack Obama.
Google made its home page an image of the late leftist farm labor leader today (his b’day), earning it much scorn across the internet.
Reportedly, Google’s motivation was to help advance amnesty for illegal aliens, the fight over which will begin in earnest in about a week.
However, Google may want to Google Mr. Chavez - because his legacy on illegal immigration may not be quite what Google thinks it is. Here’s a Ruben Navarrette column on the subject. As a labor leader, Chavez virulently opposed illegal immigration as undercutting his workers’ bargaining position. – even leading protests at the Mexican border. As late as 1979 he inveighed against “illegal alien strikebreakers” before Congress. Some of his tactics were less than Gandhiesque - his union thugs repeatedly assaulted Mexican illegals who tried to obtain work in the fields, for example. Of course, he changed his position in later years “under pressure from Chicano yaktivists.” That doesn’t mean his later position was right. (Excellent details on Chavez’ position on illegals HERE).
Barack Obama also celebrated this Easter by issuing an official proclamation that today is officially….”César Chávez Day” (what else?).
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2013, as Cesar Chavez Day. I call upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate service, community, and education programs to honor Cesar Chavez’s enduring legacy.I’m sure Obama knows full well the true legacy of Chavez. But he also knows the usefulness of a ethnic totem to better enable him to call Republicans racist against Latinos, should they fail to give in to amnesty this year.
Finally, what Easter, er, I mean César Chávez Day, would be complete without a Presidential visit to a race-baiting Hispanic preacher, all too willing to bash the “religious right” for being anti-”immigrant” from the altar…
Obama and his family attended Easter services at Saint John’s Church at Lafayette Square, where the Rev. Luis Leon presided. According to a press pool report of Leon’s sermon, the minister criticized what he called ”the captains of the religious right.”
People often want things to go back to the way things used to be, before “work got difficult and faith got confused, and life got more confusing,” Leon said, according to the pool report.“You cannot go back,” Leon said, citing the words of Jesus. “It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back … for blacks to be back in the back of the bus … for women to be back in the kitchen …for immigrants to be back on their side of the border.”Lovely. That is Obama’s preacher, who also gave the benediction at his recent inugural. Sounds like he would get along just great with
.Happy César Chávez Day. Happy Easter.

I didn't expect the atheist/leftist element to care.

I'm not enrages (enraged?), but makes me kind of sad I guess. I'm actually thinking of relocating to Thailand in a year or two.
