  • Anybody thinks this makes any kind of sense, and why?

Regardless, Grossi is still an idiot. @@

  • Not surprised comming from Tony...He must be bored to death....

  • Soon, everyone will learn: Never trust anything on sbnation.

The content is flat-out stupid. We do not have a strength at DL/OLB if either of those are traded - and every good defense at its core has DL/OLB as its strength. Besides, what's the point? The assertion is to get back into the second round to pick.. another DE/OLB?

Sheard is a decent player - you will not find a player measurably better than him in the second round. Equal, sure, whatever -- but not better. Change just for the sake of change is not good.

Rubin already IS the victory. You can't do better. Seriously, just stop. He's a sixth round pick playing at a pro bowl reserve level.. who because of his athletic lackings will not draw more than a 6th round pick in a trade. GTFO.

  • I can see them testing the market for Rubin... This year he is affordable at just under a $2.0 Cap Hit, but next year it skyrockets close to $9.4 million

Getting a decent pick (Anything from late 3rd to early 5th given his contract) in return would be a great move IMO. If the Browns finish 7-9 to 9-7, they will have enough money available to go after a top Free Agent (or a couple) next year like Hakeem Nicks/Victor Cruz, Brian Cushing, Brian Orakpo, Jairus Byrd, Anthony Spencer or Malcolm Jenkins.

  • Incorrect.

2013 and 2014 cap hit of Ahtyba is actually less than the 2012 cap hit. This post is long bc there's no way to post a table.

    Year Base

    2011 600,000

    2012 7,700,000

    2013 6,000,000

    2014 6,600,000

    Total cap hit:

    Year Cap Hit

    2011 1,998,100

    2012 9,375,000

    2013 7,575,000

    2014 8,175,000

The difference there is signing bonus and workout bonuses, roughly equivalent 2012-2014.

My point with this? I'd rather pay 8M [and we did during the 2012 season] to someone who is a proven near-Pro-Bowl player than drop him for a late-round draft pick.. because that pick will probably be a fail.

  • The rumor mill . I guess the same logic could apply to any number of players. That might make a good trade . Unfortunately fiction finds its way into Newsprint and other forms of media reporting in inappropriate ways . Unless The browns are in fact testing the market and the source is reliable .

But there is no way for the reader to know if the story is a creation of the writer .

The 2002 case of the three writers in Florida suing the big 6 media outlets . The case went to the supreme court and the court plainly said to the public , They don't have to tell the truth . Hence the 6 o clock news 1 hour of truthful media was eliminated.

The truth is SB nation has no obligation to tell the truth . The truth being subjective . (The crocodile and the child paradox).

Although The rumor mill does give us some entertainment and a few interesting scenario's .

  • rubin and sheard were 2 OF OUR BEST PLAYERS last year.

i'd don't get the aholes that say trade away your good players cuz next year you might have to pay them.

    so fucking pay them!

    Rubin was paid this year.

It is a flat-out lie to assert Rubin's contract jumps next year - it does not. Rubin's contract decreases in 2013 and again in 2014 from the dollar value he was paid in 2012.

There is zero rationale to trade Rubin for a draft pick.. because you then have to hit big on the draft pick to justify the trade, and with Banner drafting I will never agree with that assertion.

you know all the numbers and i don't.

i just don't get the people that say trade a player when he has the most value. trade him for who, and with what guarantee?

i mean the only name i heard all year last year about getting to the QB was sheard and now some dickheads want to trade the guy?

this switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense every other year is really pissing me off. does every coach have such a bubble head that they can't see something that worked for the past regime and stick with it? for fuck's sake! everyone has to have it 'their' way to put 'their' stamp on 'their' team. they should all remember whose team it is: the fans that support this vomit tank since '99. man they better come out like blockbusters this year and kick some serious ass cuz if CHUD pulls a 5 win season out of his hat he'll soon be called CHUD THE DUD. it's getting sickening.

    fucking egotistical pricks.

let them pick geno smith at 6 and i'll fucking throw a flaming hot bag of shit in lombardi's face, personally.

  • Browns Fan 1977 @Browns1977

@TonyGrossi any chance we see a trade down combo with trade of sheard for a higher second round pick maybe first?

"@Browns1977 chance of a trade down combo w/ trade of sheard for a higher 2nd round pick maybe first?//I believe Sheard or Rubin are traded.

He just answered a tweet. No need to get butt-hurt about it

  • number one rule about talking to a fan of the same team you are: don't tell them how to feel.

  • And lots of you called me an idiot when I suggested that this might happen.

  • fucking tweeting is for quiffs.

@liberacelove: "i just got my balls waxed. come on over boys!"

@pillowbiter77 "i'm getting into my queefmobile now!"

    @bunsniffer25 "me three!"

what a bunch of fags, like a person should care WTF you do every second of the day. and then people complain when they have no privacy yet they tweef, fagbook themselves all over the internet.

favorite from a victim of violent crime: "i don't know how the guy knew so much about me!?! (cry)"

fucking morons deserve what they get.

Well, I think it again comes down to the mindset that they are not "our guys".

Some of these GMs, and maybe Lombardi is one of them, who would think that Joe Montana, Dick Butkus, Jim Brown, and Jerry Rice would be no good unless they drafted him. It can be all about the ego of the guy running the show or making the decisions.

yeah i get it but when you think about it you are talking about someone who has proven they can play in the nfl. why trade him for someone that might look great on paper but has not played a down with the big boys. i could see if the guy was a 3rd stringer but to be a major part of the defense (rubin and sheard)???

    it just makes no sense.

  • Well Sheard is a huge question mark. He had a pretty big sophomore slump, and now we're taking him out of his natural position. Horton must not think he'll be able to convert to the 3-4.

I don't think Horton has said anything about Sheard or Rubin, which is why the verbal attack was made on Toni Grossi for the speculation..

  • I did make a mistake when I was looking at his contract (do not know how I did as they all state 2011 as the starting year of the contract, with 2012 when the high salary kicks in)... With this being said; I would rather hold on to him for one more year to make sure he transitions to their vision (he should with his experience in the 3-4). At that point they could reassess the rest of the pieces and attempt a trade. Either way the Browns will not extend both Taylor and Rubin with the money they have committed to Bryant, pretty much leaving Rubin as the odd man out. If they have already made this financial decision; they may already plan on trading him in this draft to get one of "their guys" in tow for 2013.

  • yep. god knows they reassess and evaluate players every year. usually it's bums like a first round QB who blew his rookie season. or a coach who couldn't pick his nose besides an offensive play.

i get the changing of position for some of these players.....what i don't get is the changing of the whole defensive system.

  • I don't know the numbers at all, but the two mentioned here are flat out solid players. I would be shocked.

I can imagine that Lombardi would do a Cleveland Indians thing and trade away a really fine player to draft

another player who won't what....? make as much money?

Seems to me that I was annoyed at the Indians for doing that a lot of years....
