The Browns Board
23 10 1.5k
  • OK, here is the deal...I go away from this board for 4 days....and still the incessant whining continues from certain quarters about who the Browns didn't get in the draft...or in free agency at certain positions.

And my reply, right here right now is: Shut The Fuck Up about that.

    Instead, try doing something substantive.

Tell us who is out there Right Now, who is available for this team to pick up that you believe would actually help this team. Quit whining and do (or say something) that is viable...doable that would improve the Browns before this next season starts. Please try to make your replies realistic and not "lets trade our third round pick next year for Andrew Luck.".

Tell us what FA is still available the signing of which would make various of you happy.

There's the problem with your request....

There are quite a few whiners on this board who will NEVER be happy with anything this team does. All they want to do is bitch and complain. They're the same ones who complain and whine even when we do win because we didn't win by more or win easier or whatever.

There's just some who won't be happy no matter what....

    Fuck 'em.... let them whine...

And then there's the pussies are just happy with anything the Browns do because, hey, it's the Browns and they can do no wrong.

They made okay moves and also made some head-scratchers.

  • And thus, every Browns board in the world is described! And every month-long flame war traced to its true roots. Well, that and a college football fan (from Oregon, Oklahoma, wherever) jumping aboard. That usually becomes a strange complication.

Now it appears Mr. Rah-Rah wants to control what gets posted on this board. I guess Mr .Rah-Rah doesn't grasp the concept of free speech.

There's a famous #1 song from many years ago written and song by Carole King called ,"It's Too Late Baby." Except for FA free safety Kerri Rhodes, who has a lot of baggage that comes with signing him, there is nobody in free agency that could help much with the Browns' astoundingly pathetic secondary and tight end situation.

The bottom line is that Messrs. Banner and Lombardi pretty much blew it in free agency and in the draft, aside from the signing of Bryant, Lewis and Groves, and some solid UDFA signings.

They had the opportunity in the 4th and 5th rounds to add some quality players in the secondary like FS P. Thomas and CB Webb and make it a source of strength, not weakness, for many years to come. And they passed, while the other three competitive teams in their division all leaped at the opportunity to acquire players in this draft.

In free agency, they paid big bucks to acquire a pass rusher, Kruger, who is so bad against the run that he was only on the field for one-third of his team's plays on defense in the Super Bowl. And then they draft real high a very slight DE who has never played LB and who is considered weak against the run. Now, I ask, if you have two prime LB's who are considered poor in the run game, and your team has been known for years as one that can't stop the run, how are you going to stop the run? Do you think that the running backs for our three divison foes are licking their chops as they look at this situation and laugh?! I do!

Then there is the tight end fiasco. There were some decent TE's on the market, guys who actually can get open and catch the ball, but the Browns couldn't reel any of them in. Instead they sign a TE who was was kicked off the Bears team and had the nickname, "Stone Hands," from Bears fans, and they add another TE who has played a zillion years in the NFL and who is so bad in the receiving game he has only caught about 6 passes in a zillion years. Meanwhile, the tight end they kept from last year who played basketball at USC and who the previous regime thought they could turn into Antonio Gates (NOT!) has shown no potential at all to be a highly productive receiving TE in the NFL. So Brandon Weeden will begin the 2013 season with one hand tied behind his back because he has one of the worst TE receiving corps in the entire NFL.

The Browns management group -- no matter who sits in the chairs in the office complex or who stands on the sidelines at the Berea practice field -- have pretty much been the laughing stock of pro football for over a decade now. The debacle continues.

It'll be "bombs away" for opposing QBs as they find one open receiver after another against the weak secondary, and then when the Browns fiercely rush, they'll just hand off on a draw play to a quick, tough RB who will speed through the arms of Kruger or Mingo for a big gain. You watch: one of the big goals next year will be to add LBs who can stop the run!!!

While the Browns front office is another bunch of clowns, one positive thing going for the team is that they have a better coaching staff this year. Maybe they can coach these guys up to go 6-10 this year, instead of the normal 5-11 or 4-12!

ALL I am getting from this is: I am too big of a menstrual cramp to offer anything positive or productive to this board.

I am going to continue to act like a cholic baby.....and Cry, cry, cry.

You know, they have written a lot of songs about crying......and you must have every one of them on you iPod.

Or, maybe you should just engage in this:

  • Our TE situation is fine. Jordan Cameron was the heir apparent and fits well with both Turner and Chud's philosophy. He has been taking first team reps in OTA's and will be our #1 throughout the season.

When he was actually used in the last two years (which was very rare), he performed well. He has solid hands to go with his size (6'4" 245). As our 3rd string TE, he still gathered 226 receiving yards and a TD on 20 catches last season, averaging 11 YPC. In a West Coast Offense predicated on shit passes and awful crossing patterns, 11 YPC is a solid statistic.

With Chud being a former TE and TE coach, Turner's experience with Antonio Gates and TE coach John Embree's history with Tony Gonzales, I would say Cameron is in a great position to succeed.

Barnidge was brought in because of his familiarity with Chud's system. Just like with the Groves signing, these moves were more geare towards having experienced players interjected into the system. You see it all the time. Barnidge is a serviceable player and provides depth.

Davis is a red zone target and blocking TE. At 6'7 and running a 4.5 second 40, he has the size to match up with nearly any defensive linemen, yet still possesses the speed to provide matchup issues in coverage. He'll be used in 2TE sets in order to draw another LB into coverage. I don't foresee him amassing many yards, but he could find himself on the receiving end of quite a few red zone TD's.

Really, of all the holes we had, TE seems to be the most solid.

You present good points, but you're overly pessimistic to the point of absurdity. The Browns TE situation is far from the worst in the NFL. It's not even the worst in the AFC North.

As for our secondary, Lombardi and Co. did drop the ball on that. I believe it's a conspiracy to keep Horton from moving on to a HC job. If we notch a Top 5 defense, you can bet he'll be gone.

OK, but again....is there anybody out there that you could see that may be available for the Browns to pick up. Skeptical is too busy contemplating his navel lint to offer anything constructive. Can anyone else?

  • You know what they say about boys and men. Here are some Tight End names. Would any of them be preferable to what we have now? I give age and name:

    Dallas Clark 34

    Kellen Winslow II 29

    Chris Cooley 30

    Randy McMichael 33

    Leonard Pope 29

    Billy Bajema 30

    Zach Potter 27

    Travis Beckum 26

    Dante Rosario 28

  • And here are some the top FA Safeties available per ESPN:

    Quintin Mikell 32

    Charles Woodson 36

    Kerry Rhodes 30

    Gerald Sensabaugh 29

    Madieu Williams 31

    Ronde Barber 38

    Abram Elam 31

    Chris Crocker 33

    Matt Giordano 30

    Charlie Peprah 30

And here is their list of top available corners:

    Chris Gamble 30

    Quentin Jammer 33

    Sheldon Browns 34

    Nate Clements 33

    Sam Shields 25

    Shantae Spencer 31

    Cedric Griffin 30

    Rashean Mathis 32

    Terence McGee 32

    Jason Allen 29

Since some of you are all convulsive over what we don't or do have....what about some of these? They are available. Should they be picked up to replace the Skrines/Haggs/Gipsons/McFaddens

  • From both lists...I'd be willing to bring in K2 to a very incentive based contract to see how healthy and motivated he is to play.

What's wrong with Sam Shields...there has to be a reason why a 25 year old is a FA. I don't know anything about Jason Allen but his age is attractive to me as well.

Typical idiot Browns fan. You really fucking think that a 4th and 5th round pick would have turned out secondary into a star group, or even a good group? They are fucking 4th and 5th round picks! We would have been so lucky if we selected players and they made any kind of contribution this year! You think Pittsburg is looking at the guy they go with our 4th round pick and thinking he is going to be a day 1 starter! Fuck NO! Any team that grabbed any of the players you mentioned or any of the players taken after those guys and are saying they are starters are really just saying that they have given up on that position for the season and that they hope the guys they got will turn into someone good in the future. It was what our previous regime did with it's draft picks. Nab a safety in the 7th round, thats starter material right there. Get the fuck over your self, change you god damn tampon, and stop acting like we some how missed out on two parenial pro bowlers with those fucking picks.

Not sure what is wrong with Shields. Though, I know that in a few cases some of these guys are holding out for a lot more money than anyone has wanted to give so far. Until the Chargers lost their top pass rusher Dwight Freeney was one of those guys. When the Charger guy tore up a knee about a week ago, they were not interested. Freeney wanted about 4 million a year. I heard the best offer he got was about 2 mill....until the SD knee issue cropped up. Then the Chargers met Freeneys price.

Who knows if the same is true with Shields.

(on the other hand....maybe he plain and simple sucks and no on wants him)

Our TE situation is fine.

At this point, no. We've already missed the boat on any free agents that could have helped,

  • Here are some moves made this week....any of interest?

    CB Chandler Fenner released

    DB DeQuan Menzi released

    OG DJ Hall released

    CB Dustin Harris released

(these guys may have all just been UDFAs)

  • We did a great job in free agency. Really excited about this season.

The guys that are still out there will get jobs once camp starts and guys get injured or teams feel thin at a certain position.

    >I'd hit that, little fatter than what I like but nice rack.

Gips I only see a couple that are bitching, but for the most part I and most everyone else seem that we are better off than a year before. Now if we did what the last front office did, and not hit the free agency market and only select 5 draft picks. yeah, we would be bummed.

Like I said before safety Obvious weak area, posibly CB. Nickle dime packages we are weak at corner.

I feel a little less optimistic than TCPO about the TE's

MLB I think we are lacking rotational players for sure.

looking fwd too see the new guys at WR. I feel like when we get behind on downs or 3rd and long we will have some strength at that position now to keep moving the chains instead of seeing Obby run a draw on 3rd and fucking 7.

T rich healthy, best O line in the division. Go Browns

  • I don't know what else this team could have done... On D...

We have 11, or more, guys who are going to fill in our front 7 and provide excellent depth in a new 3-4 front... with 4 solid pass rushers in the group...

We drafted a CB in the 3rd to compete for the CB2 with a FA we brought in (Owens), a 2nd yr former draft pick (Wade), and a guy who had a rough 2nd year (Skrine). Our CB depth looks like Haden, McFadden, Skrine, Owens, Wade... These guys can all play, and will have to cover for less time considered an improved pass rush...

We have 4 talented young players competing for FS (Gipson, Hagg, Bademosi, Slaughter), who obviously this regime sees some potential in...

On O... we brought in TWO solid backup QBs, neither of which will beat out Weeden - who is primed for a nice 2nd year...

We are going for stability in our offensive line, but also brought in some depth to push the guys who have played together for the past 2 seasons...

We added 2 veteran WRs (Nelson and Bess), and 2 veteran TEs... to go with our young potential-stacked talent (Gordon, Little, Benjamin, Cameron)

Oh and BTW... we still have one of the best RBs in football...

Not to mention we brought in OC - Norv Turner and DC - Ray Horton...

What else could we really have done??????? realistically...
