  • Here are this week's survey question:

    1. Tell us your most interesting sports betting story.

    2. Who wins the NHL playoffs: Kings/Blackhawks/Bruins/Penguins?

    3. Who win the NBA playoffs: Heat/Pacers/Spurs?

    4. From Skeptical's comment: Since 1966 what are the best teams to NOT make the Super Bowl. You can give a single season team, or an era. And give any number that you want.

    5. The Russians have uncovered a carcass of a Wooly Mammoth that contains liquid blood....which means.....da da da....that Jurassic Park could come true, at least as far as a Wooly Mammoth is concerned. i.e. they could easily make a clone of it, and bring that species back to life.

    Do you think they should?

Placed $50 on Mickelson at 8:1 to win the Masters in 2004. Not really a gambler, so that's about it.

    2. Who wins the NHL playoffs: Kings/Blackhawks/Bruins/Penguins?

    Blackhawks

    3. Who win the NBA playoffs: Heat/Pacers/Spurs?

    Heat

    1986 Browns , 1998 Vikings, 1977 Raiders

I only have a couple overall:

    A. I did win the Kentucky Derby, in 1971 put money on Canonero II and won about $28 bucks. Decent money then.

    B. In 1999 I spent a week at Lake Tahoe, and on Sunday of that week I decided to spend the day at the Harrah's casino watching the NFL action. All games were on in the same room. It was the Browns first year back and they were playing the Bengals. It was the game where the Browns scored on a fake FG and the holder had the kicker kick the ball in the stand. It was also the game the Browns lost on a last second pass by Akili Fucking Smith. The only game that motherfucker won in his entire career. Though the Browns lost the game, they did cover the point spread. I was to win like 5 bucks on a 2 dollar bet. I never cashed in the ticket. I kept the souvenir and have it to this day.

    2. Who wins the NHL playoffs: Kings/Blackhawks/Bruins/Penguins?

I see it as a tossup with all these teams. So I guess I would prefer the Blackhawks at this point. Eff Boston, Eff LA, eff Pisstown.

    3. Who win the NBA playoffs: Heat/Pacers/Spurs?

Assuming Miami gets by Indy....I think the Spurs know how to handle LeBron...and with injuries to Wade and Bosh, this Heat team is no better than the old Cavs team that met the Spurs in 2007. Spurs win.

    4. From Skeptical's comment: Since 1966 what are the best teams to NOT make the Super Bowl. You can give a single season team, or an era. And give any number that you want.

    Here is a fair list:

    1967 Rams 11-1-2

    1967 Colts 11-1-2

    1968 Cowboys 12-2

    1969 Raiders 12-1-1

    1973 and 1975 Rams 12-2

    1986 Bears 14-2

    1998 Vikings 15-1

    1999 Jaguars 14-2

    2004 Steelers 15-1

    2005 Colts 14-2

    2006 Chargers 14-2

    2010 Patriots 14-2

    2011 Packers 15-1

And, of course, the 1986 Browns

I think Dr. Malcolm makes a cogent point: The Wooly Mammoth was chosen for extinction, why should we alter that course of history?

That said, I personally have no ethical objection to doing what science can do in this instance.

  • Here is something to think about: One of the greatest games in history was The Ice Bowl, where the Packers defeated the Cowboys in the last second on a Bart Starr QB sneak in the NFL title game.

Had the Packers not been successful on that play, the Cowboys and not the Packers go on to play in Super Bowl I against the AFC Chiefs. And almost certainly the Cowboys would have won that game.

So, if you think about it, but for that play, the trophy they give away now to the winner of the Super Bowl could have been The Landry Trophy, and not the Lombardi Trophy.

That is why that game, and that play is so renowned, and important, in NFL history.

    1. Tell us your most interesting sports betting story.

When I was a kid, like third grade, the Pirates were playing the Reds in the NCLS. I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, but I was a Browns/Indians fan and had disdain for all things Pittsburgh. When the Pirates were up two games to one (Best of 5) I started betting people 50 cents that the Reds would win the series, and soon everyone, even the girls, wanted in on the action, I think the entire class bet me, they were all convinced the Pirates would win. Well, the Reds won game four and they all started getting nervous. Then Bob Moose throws a wild pitch in Game 5 and the Reds win the series. The next day I go into school to collect my haul ,,, probably about 20 kids in the class, so we are talking $10, that's a lot of bubble gum and football card money in 1972 . Turns out more than half of them didn't pay up,, they said they were "just kidding" or some other lame excuse. I was prepared to pay up if the Pirates won, and I'm sure they would have accepted my money. That's when I learned to not trust Pittsburgh sports fans, and I hate them all to this day. Go Bruins.

    2. Who wins the NHL playoffs: Kings/Blackhawks/Bruins/Penguins?

    Bruins.

    3. Who win the NBA playoffs: Heat/Pacers/Spurs?

    Spurs over Pacers

    4. From Skeptical's comment: Since 1966 what are the best teams to NOT make the Super Bowl. You can give a single season team, or an era. And give any number that you want.

The Browns, in particular, the Browns of the late 80s. Followed by the Browns of the late 60's.

No, but don't be surprised if their olympic athletes are sporting trunks and wooly coats in the 2016 Olympics.
