Haden is also small.
And Honey Badger is even smaller. I'm sure you can find some 6'2" stiffs that run a 4.7 and would love to play DB in the NFL.

And Honey Badger will never be able to consistently defend #1 or #2 WR's. He's just too small.
There are also some 6'1 corners running 4.4's (which is faster than McFadden's 4.54, mind you) that I would have been happy with seeing us take. Namely, Rhodes early or Amerson later.
I'm not unhappy with McFadden, I think he's much better than Skrine already. I just think we could have gotten him a full round or so later.
-
- Norv was the star of the day for crawling up everybody's ass and trash talking the defense... but in a semi-funny way. Players seem to dig it.
- Read several times that Weeden looked really good, really "winging it." Improving week to week, which is good. Seems comfortable. Team trotting him out the day Bon Jovi was announced verifies rumors that coaching staff is sold on him more than management.
- Gary Barnidge again. Excellent day, just like last week. Maybe this notion that Chud really thinks he can play isn't hot air.
- Chris Owen looked good and scrappy both outside and inside. Corners supporting Haden are small but all physical (Owen, Skrine, McFadden) even without pads.
- Pinkston and Greco the starting guards again. I think you can erase the pencil and write that in pen.
Anybody else?

Mary Kay Cabot of the PD noted that new RB Dion Lewis, who the Browns acquired from Phila., has looked very good. I think we're going to see a lot of him this season. He's a good runner and receiver and brinks a little of the dynamism the Browns could have had big time if they had drafted Tavon Austin #1.

I would much rather get a gimick utility guy in a 1 on 1 trade than waste the 8th overall pick on him.
-
McFadden got drafted right where he was expected to go by most draftnicks. CBS and NFL.com were both very high on him. He's a fast player, a guy who's run plenty of 4.4s in his life. Very polished, strong build at 5'10" and 193. Legit cover guy.

LOL! Yes, many did project him at the third or 4th round level. But overall McFadden was rated way down the list of CBs on many draft boards and both Kiper and Mayock expressed big time surprise when he was taken over other more highly touted CBs.
McFadden may be OK, though, I'm not overly critical about it. He's said to have good cover skills. BTW, his Combine time in the 40 was 4.54, so he didn't run one of those 4.4s you mention he so frequently ran.
The big issue with McFadden is: Can the smallish McFadden be effective against all the big receivers in the league? That's the big concern. I would have considered the StL trade and taken a bigger guy like Xavier Rhodes with the first pick. Right now the Browns have two midgets at CB in a league that features a lot of BIG, fast receivers.

Good article on McFadden, how patience may pay off for Browns (not overdrafting a #2 corner). Say... he's 5'10" and 193 and Haden is 5'11" and 193, but I keep hearing McFadden is small. Because of 1"?

Are you a PR guy for the Browns? Neither Haden nor McFadden is as tall in REAL LIFE as you report they are.

You're in for a shock when you begin to grasp the impact Tavon Austin is going to have on the NFL and on the Rams this season. They are my surprise team for the playoffs.

Wow, I guess Gary Barnidge's invisible career is a thing of the past and Chris Owen's demotion from nickel to dime to bench in Atlanta last season was really just an illusion! Life is just grand in lala land!

Your posts suggest you're just another fantasy football cheerleader.
There's only been one draft board leaked. You know where McFadden was rated....how...exactly? Have you met he and Haden? Hmm....
You want a guy like Rhodes based solely on measurables....no reason to consider a scheme fit right? I mean....you gotta be over 6 foot to defend in this league right? All that matter is to kill the combine and be tall....
Ironic how while you yourself being clueless allows you to call others the same, while citing your opinion as some sort of fact. Did you really use kiper and mcshays opinion as some sort of evidence? Lmao....
People post their opinions, new jack. Yours is no better than anyone else's, and certainly looks as though you think espin is an authority. This suggests you simply regurgitate others opinions because you can't form your own outside of fantasy football statistical analysis.

Kipper is the biggest fucking idiot in sports. How the fuck he got his job is beyond me. How does a guy who never played in college or the nfl, and who was never a scout or coach, become a draft analyst. While Mayock at least has playing experiance, the only reason people love his coverage is because he gets compared to Kiper. It's the chearleader affect. You go to a bar and you see a group of girls, most of the girls are fuggly cows, but one is hot as hell. You get her alone and you see that she is average at best because your subconsious mind was just comparing her to her friends the whole time. I don't take shit Mayock says seriously. The fact that you care what BOTH of these guys says with their draft ranking just shows how much of an idiot you truely are.

I simply don't understand posting misery on a Browns board over and over and over. Seems pointless. Prior to the season. I've never been an absurdly sunny or Kool-Aid-ey guy, but there's plenty to be excited about. The roster looks stronger than anything we've seen since 2007.
Hey, when there's no choice and we're bad, say we're bad. But I don't get relentless negativity before the first preseason game. The Bengals, Steelers, and Ravens did virtually nothing in free agency except lose former stars. They're coming back and the Browns are at least making moves to meet them (Chud, Turner, Horton, pass rushers, Bess, etc.). We almost never fielded our starting defense last year.
Just give it a chance at least.

Unlike many Browns draft choices, Tavon Austin has no history of injuries.

Actually, I watch players play as much as I can and then make asssesments. As I have written, I am really pullling for Mingo but watching him play in the SEC last year he didn't really make all that much of an impact. He didn't even make first team all SEC.
There were at least 15-20 defensive players in the SEC last year I thought were better than Mingo. NT Floyd from Florida was the best defensive player I saw. Flroida Safety Elam was stellar as was Alex Oglretree of Georgia and Milliner of Alabama. I am not as high on Pittsburgh Steeles first pick Jarvis Jones, either.
In the 5th round. Browns had a golden opportunity to take Georgia Safety Bacarri Rambo, a quality athlete who I predict will be a better player in the NFL than the Browns pick in the 6th round, S Slaughter from Notre Dame. Instead, "the brilliant" Lombardi traded the pick.

Hairy Buffalo, we really appreciate your "deep" insights on this board!
But you are clearly best known for your use of sexual slang words, mostly 4 letters in length, the kind that bring giggles to 5th and 6th grade little boys.
Are you, in fact, a grade school or junior high school student? Or are you just an extremely immature adult?

Any football fan hating on Mel Kiper, I honestly don't get it. He virtually invented the NFL draft as a welcome diversion between seasons, made it fun as hell, something to overthink for all the right reasons. One day he'll be mentioned alongside Sabol.
