  • Holy crap, I'm ready for some football. Nothing but teenager movies and baseball all summer. Although "World War Z" looks pretty awesome.

    Here's a nice tee up.

  • waiting to see the reviews of 'man of steel' as i have have liked snyder's work in 'watchmen' and '300' taking the comic book glare onto the big screen.

brad pitt in a horror movie (my fave genre) i'll have to judge after seeing.

maybe chud should show 'world war z' to the Oline and to weeds to show how fast big assed zombie DEs can come at you. i remember watching the original george romero 'dawn of the dead' and seeing how slow the zombies moved. laughable. then came '28 days later' and it scared the shit out of me.

get the ball out fast son.

  • Camp opens next month if that makes it seem closer to the season. 😁

If you haven't read the book World War Z, I highly advise it. Very good read and cleverly done. The movie probably won't be so hot but it could never do justice to the fine book which tells stories about how different people around the world coped with the Zombie War.

The good news for the Browns is that they have a superior head coach and offensive coordinator this year. Maybe, finally, the Bronws offense will create some unpredictability.

I see you're another one of the immature twits on this board. That's a shame.

Actually, it is my understanding that Man of Steel is being made by the same producers as the recent Batman trilogy (with Christian Bales). So, that actually excites me more than it being done by the 300 guys. Though I loved 300...I was not so high on Watchmen.

And I am also not a "horror" film guy. To me, from what I have seen, WWZ is more sci-fi than horror. Which is good as far as I am concerned.

This team actually has more talent than a Browns team has had in quite a few years. There's really no glaring holes in the starting lineup, just excited to see who starts at FS and how they will perform during the season. CB2 is another question, of course, and we knew that coming in, but Skrine, Owens, McFadden, and Wade are all going to be important to that secondary playing well. We need Weeden to step it up, but I think new playcalling and coaching will be enough to get him to show 1st round capabilities.

I have two concerns that have been little discussed. 1) MLB is a question I have that I haven't heard much of during the offseason... DQ and Robertson are the guys mentioned as starters, but I think that may be the position on our roster with the least depth. 2) Do you guys think Marecic makes this team, or do they go 5 RBs on the roster (Richardson, Hardesty, Jackson, Ogby, Lewis) and no FB? Or, does Smelley make the team at FB/TE? not sure how that one is going to work out...

    1. I agree that it looks like MLB is a depth issue as behing DQ and Robertson they list only Fort and Tank Carder. However, I also think that James Michael Johnson can fill in at MLB. Why do I think that? I don't know. Its just that I thought he was a MLB in college.

    2. Marecic is definitely on the fence IMO. Based on his history, it wouldn't make me cry to see him gone and Smelley put in the role you mention...though I understand that Smelley isn't your prototypical fullback, i.e. a tank on wheels. He is built more like a TE. Taller/thinner/more wiry.

    3. 5 RBs is too many in terms of taking up roster spots

My favorite critic Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) just gave the movie an extended BJ. So that's promising.

  • JMJ would almost certainly step in if DQJ or Robertson went down. He brings some versatility and could win the job next to DQJ anyway. That's really nice depth and I expect all three will see some time on the field. Aside from all the pass rushers, I expect competition from Carder, Fort, and now Tommy Smith. Only one of those three gets a uniform on Sundays.

I like everything about our front 7, basically. You want 5-techs? Bryant and Winn. Run stuffers? Taylor, Rubin, and Hughes. And when we go to the 4-2-5, which will be a lot, you might see a front four of Mingo, Bryant, Sheard, and Kruger once in a while. Just get some leads and turn that shit loose. The two linebackers would be DQJ and Robertson for the same reason they're starting: They can both run and cover.

I look for the Browns to add a corner with size somewhere along the line. Might not be splashy, could be a camp trade, player or future pick.

This Tommy Smith must have been a weekend pickup which I have not heard about before, so whats the scoop on him?

(and this points out a reason why Asshat/clown/munch should quit shitting his knickers, because just like you said, nothing says the Browns are done picking up pieces in that DB, just like they did with this LB)

  • UDFA from Boise St., I think. Tried out and got signed. Backup linebackers don't need to be drafted in round 4 anymore than #2 corners need to be drafted higher than round 3. Right now, some Browns fans think every position should be filled with no lower than a second round pick.

Look at some of the top teams. They find starters all over the place, including UDFAs. Hell, half the guys blocking for Doug Martin last year weren't drafted.

Positional value is real. That's what "team building" is all about. You don't wanna win in April. You wanna win in September.
