Ten Greatest Seasons By A Player
-
According to my PFR source, THE Ten Greatest Seasons (plus ties) by a single player since 1950 are as follows:
1. 1969 Alan Page, Minnesota Vikings
2t. 1970, Alan Page, Minnesota Vikings
.....1964 Jim Brown, Cleveland Browns
4t. 1975 OJ Simpson, Buffalo Bills #
.....1999 Marshall Faulk, St. Louis Rams
.....2006 LaDanian Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers
.....1969 Carl Eller, Minnesota Vikings
8t. 1963 Jim Brown, Cleveland Browns
.....2007 Tom Brady, New England Patriots
.....1950 Chuck Bednarik, Philadelphia Eagles
.....1971 Alan Page, Minnesota Vikings
.....1969 Lem Barney, Detroit Lions
#note: this was not OJs 2000 yard season. That was 1973. Though in 1975 he gained over 1800 rushing yards, he scored many more TDs and had more pass receiving yards and far more total yards than in 1973.
Other notes:
Jim Brown's 1960 and 1965 seasons were tied for 14th best, as was Len Ford's 1954 season. and Aaron Rodgers 2011 season and Ray Lewis's 2000 season.
Darrelle Revis 2009 season tied for 29th best.
Dan Marino's 1984 season was 46th best. I would have thought it would be higher.
Do you have any candidates for the Greatest Season by a player?

Actually, Randy Moss had a much higher ranked year in 1998, which I think is the year you are referring to. And I will be honest with you, neither of their seasons that year ranked in the top 250 by a player.

That's crazy Gipper. IMHO, Randy Moss was the MVP that season, he was unstoppable. I think he didn't win it because he was a rookie, and was cocky.

I didn't rank them PFR did. I just reported it.
I think one of the reasons WRs don't rank well in this "production value" number is because of the limited number of times they touch the ball. I don't know how the math works, but that is my theory.
As you can see from that Top Dozen names in the original post, there are 5 defensive linemen, 5 RBs, 1 QB and 1 DB.
And, as you can tell, those Purple People Eaters were quite a crew.
But no Fearsome Foursome....including the dearly departed Deacon Jones.

The Best Seasons by position:
QB: Tom Brady 2007
RB: Jim Brown 1964
WR: Charley Hennigan 1961 and Wes Chandler 1982
OL: Matt Light 2007
DL: Alan Page 1969
LB: four way tie: Pat Swilling 1991, Wilbur Marshall 1986, Ray Lewis 2000, Ted Hendricks 1971
DB: Rolland Lawrence 1977
I was not able to discern the best for the TE position.
