It is just two games. We have other receivers who can cover for him. Nelson will likely step in and cover for him nicely. Losing Gordon for two games won't be nearly as bad as losing Haden four games last year.

Its really just a lack of responsibility. Hes only 22 or 21 still a fucking kid. Two games isnt alot but it still hurts. I was certainly pissed when hearing this news but we still have a solid recieving corp that should be fine as long as the schemes and coaching fit (not to mention BW stepping up)

Kind of explains the cold comments from Banner the last month or so. Seems he had a feeling this was on the horizon.
He's a good player who has had these problems in the past, so if he can't stay clean, he is pretty useless to us.
I'd cut him if it ever happens again, and if I was a teammate, I'd slap him in the face for being a punk, then punch him in the face if he objected.

for once i agree with PoG that the laws about weed in this country are ridiculous. i betcha colorado climbs out of any negative budget they had just for legalizing it. imagine what it would do for this nation's economy. clear our debt in no time. BUT no, we have the old time hard liners who still think of weed as a devil's drug. believe me you don't run off the road or head on into other vehicles killing families by smoking pot like thousands do every year under the influence of alcohol. if anything you're driving under the speed limit thinking there's a cop around every turn.

This is bullshit, the rules and laws regarding pot need to be changed now. Wake up America! Fucking get a clue and stand up to this outdated bullshit of a prohibition. If drinking is legal then pot must be as well; and if pot is illegal then booze needs to be as well, you can't have it both ways, motherfuckers!
As you probably know PG, I have no problems with guys smoking weed. Unfortunately, the NFL does- and rookies get it seriously drilled into their heads what they can do for recreational fun and games, and what they can't.
As to the rumors JG was suspended for doing codeine and booze- well, welcome to Joe Haden country. Show us a prescription where you were authorized for it, we have no problem.
Never tried it, but reports are you can catch quite a buzz slamming a bottle of it, and then topping it off with a few high octane drinks. Hell, way back in the 60s the hardcores would beg the pharmacist to sell them a bottle of Paregoric without a prescription (FWIW it contains a fair amount of OPIUM) then head down to the local booze emporium, pick up a bottle of Mad Dog or Thunderbird to slam along with it- (Mogen David 20% fortified wine) total cost about $5 in today's dollars- and pass out in the local bus stops.

Why the fuck does everyone think its pot. If it was pot, he would be out 4 games. He likely got it reduced because he came in and showed them the doctors note and prestription slip. Still against the rules but it shows that he wasn't abusing it. If he didn't show the NFL some kind of proof such as a sprip, then he would be out 4 whole games.

I agree. It's not known what the problem is at this point, and we probably never will. There was some mitigating factor that got it dropped to a 2 game suspension with a added 2 game fine.
None the less, we took a gamble on the guy. A guy who has made mistakes at every stop. It was about a year ago at this time when Gordon was telling NFL executives how he was a changed man and asking them to give him a shot in the upcomming supplemental draft.
I am all for giving people chances. It's the right thing to do. However, at some point you have to wash your hands of the person if they keep breaking that trust. If I was Banner, my first words with Mr. Gordon would be that we consider this his second violation and if there are any further violations, he will be dropped without pause.

of positive tests but it seems simple to me to deduce that he had nothing to explain his positive piss test result besides a story of strep throat.
BTW, the time honored treatment for strep is antibiotics.

You need to read up on the rules. It doesn't matter if he had a scrip or not, he would still be suspended. The fact that he had proof of a visit and a scrip won't keep him from being suspended but that proof will get his suspension reduced. Doctors do prescribe antibiotics to heal strep, but they also prescripe alot of different things to short term releief, espessially to athletes. Two of the biggest things that doctors prescrib to patients with strep who still need to work out are steriods and cough syrup. I have strep my senior year in high school and my doctor wanted to give me a steriod shot, but ended up giving me a steriod inhaler.
Your letting your disapointment over what happened cloud your thinking. Yes it is disappointing, and yes Gordon fucked up. But he sure as shit isn't lying and he just made a mistake, a mistake that doesn't hurt us as bad as if he was being an inconsiderate asshole.

Seems like his story rang true-ish or it would be four games. Still a bummer because I like going to the opener and he's our most explosive offensive weapon. Already going to KC, might go to a different home game.

Sorry but you are being a bit dramatic stating that people suffer every day from anti pot laws. You don't have to agree with any law - that's your choice. But bitching about the ramifications of knowingly breaking the law is moronic.. Gordon and every other professional athlete know the substance abuse policies whether they choose to follow them or not. Let's just hope he has finally learned his lesson and that Davone Bess is as good a mentor as everyone seems to think...
