Josh Gordon Suspened Two Games

  • I agree. It's not known what the problem is at this point, and we probably never will. There was some mitigating factor that got it dropped to a 2 game suspension with a added 2 game fine.

None the less, we took a gamble on the guy. A guy who has made mistakes at every stop. It was about a year ago at this time when Gordon was telling NFL executives how he was a changed man and asking them to give him a shot in the upcomming supplemental draft.

I am all for giving people chances. It's the right thing to do. However, at some point you have to wash your hands of the person if they keep breaking that trust. If I was Banner, my first words with Mr. Gordon would be that we consider this his second violation and if there are any further violations, he will be dropped without pause.

  • Well, since it's the first two games of the season, TR should still be healthy enough to pick up the slack. Now if it were game 3 I'd be worried, because TR will be hurt by then.

  • If he had documentation of a drs visit and a valid rx for codeine syrup then we would be hearing nothing about this. NFL doesn't release details

of positive tests but it seems simple to me to deduce that he had nothing to explain his positive piss test result besides a story of strep throat.

BTW, the time honored treatment for strep is antibiotics.

  • I read Gordon's statement and it does appear that it's for codine... I first thought it was for weed, my bad... but, that doesn't change the fact that the laws regaurding marijuana need to be changed and that people suffer everyday from an outdated and foolish prohibition.

You need to read up on the rules. It doesn't matter if he had a scrip or not, he would still be suspended. The fact that he had proof of a visit and a scrip won't keep him from being suspended but that proof will get his suspension reduced. Doctors do prescribe antibiotics to heal strep, but they also prescripe alot of different things to short term releief, espessially to athletes. Two of the biggest things that doctors prescrib to patients with strep who still need to work out are steriods and cough syrup. I have strep my senior year in high school and my doctor wanted to give me a steriod shot, but ended up giving me a steriod inhaler.

Your letting your disapointment over what happened cloud your thinking. Yes it is disappointing, and yes Gordon fucked up. But he sure as shit isn't lying and he just made a mistake, a mistake that doesn't hurt us as bad as if he was being an inconsiderate asshole.

  • Seems like his story rang true-ish or it would be four games. Still a bummer because I like going to the opener and he's our most explosive offensive weapon. Already going to KC, might go to a different home game.

Huge boon to Travis Benjamin, the receiving star of camp. In all likelihood, it'll be Little, Benjamin, Bess, and Cameron in most formations... with some Nelson and Barnidge thrown in.

Sorry but you are being a bit dramatic stating that people suffer every day from anti pot laws. You don't have to agree with any law - that's your choice. But bitching about the ramifications of knowingly breaking the law is moronic.. Gordon and every other professional athlete know the substance abuse policies whether they choose to follow them or not. Let's just hope he has finally learned his lesson and that Davone Bess is as good a mentor as everyone seems to think...

  • I understand the concept that players know the rules... but pot being a banned substance is indeed ridiculous. Tough to think of a recreational "drug," including alcohol, that literally has no physical consequences. And in many cases, has legit medicinal purposes. If an athlete's gonna let his hair down a little, I'd say pot WAY ahead of booze.

Exactly. Sick of these rich spoiled athletes failing drug tests when they know the rules, then these fools come and defend them. Fuck them.

  • I'll say this: It does feel like "more of the same," as Pluto put it. Browns seem to be missing somebody important at the beginning of every new season. All the way back to Jamir Miller through Edwards, Winslow, Hardesty, Haden, Taylor... so many.

  • It was a lot worse in the past when we were thinner on talent. Considering the other talent we have at wide receiver, we should be able to get by relatively unscathed if it doesn't go any further than this.

  • im laughing at everyone who gets all mad about drugs... hell my T3 has codiene in it and thats 2 games lmao LMAO, society full of Retards.

I can guarantee you'd fail an NFL drug test at this very moment, you ignorant asshole. These players cannot take most OTC medications for aches and pains nor many vitamins and supplements that even the oldest, most impotent bastard has to take just to get up in the morning.

If you don't know shit about dick, keep your mouth shut. It's simple.

I've never been prescribed cough syrup a day in my life. Doesn't mean I don't take it if I need it.

It's an OTC drug. I doubt Gordon thought to get a scrip for cough syrup.

Shut up. Codeine is a prescription drug, not OTC. Where the hell you live some hick town?

You beat me to it by 5 minutes DieHard, while I was typing

Hate to tell ya TC- but codeine cough syrup sure as hell is a prescription drug. Didn't used to be that way- back when you could go to the pharmacy and sign your life away in the narcotics log, and get a bottle of it- but no longer. Incidentally, the worthless shit you now get OTC- dextromethorphan- is the D-isomer of codeine, and it's about 1\10th as good at suppressing coughs.

Having worked in a hospital with nurses who can steer you to the "good stuff" from personal experience, isn't anything better than codeine + phenergan if you're hacking your lungs out with a bad chest cold.

I would question what Gordon was doing taking codeine if he had a strep throat. You take antibiotics- and there's far more effective high octane prescribable pain killers than codeine.

  • I would question what Gordon was doing taking codeine if he had a strep throat. You take antibiotics- and there's far more effective high octane prescribable pain killers than codeine.

That is what I found perplexing. Codeine wouldn't do much for a strep infection. Now my biggest question is why 2 games and not 4? Something had to work in his favor.

Maybe he had a prescribed codeine medication that had expired and he started medicating himself for a strep infection.

In the scheme of things it doesn't look like the kid had a major slip, and we can do just fine for 2 games. Benji can stretch the field. Bess can get the underneath stuff.

I am eager to see what Nelson brings. He is the forgotten player in all of this. I think he has major upside. In 2011 he had 61 catches for over 650 yards, 5 TDs. If he comes back to form, he is going to be playing on Sundays.

  • somebody told me yesterday that it was prescription codeine. I had no idea that was against league rules. WSS

  • I thought if you had a prescription, it was okay.to take. I'm assuming that Gordon also had a case of

bronchitis, which would be a lot of coughing, and got strep throat from his resistance being down.

That's as smart a bunch of crap as I can muster, since I'm no health pro, and I'm not Mr. Hoorta. @@
