Is There Ever Good News?

The Browns Board

  • I get tired every offseason reading ridiculous articles about stupid, or immature, or cocky, or some other negative aspect of our players and/or "glass half empty" reports about our entire team.

Greg Little "refuses" to wear knee pads, despite the punishment being removal from the game. Josh Gordon gets suspended, and then pisses everybody off by being a diehard LeBrick fan. Mingo runs his mouth that we have the best D in the NFL. Richardson's injury gets blown out of perportion. Weeden is not "Lombardi's guy." Haslam is a "con-artist" who is going to federal prison. Expect a horrible year on D b/c you can't switch to a 3-4. We can't even convince Bon Jovi to play in Cleveland. And, the comment I'm sick of... "this team has young talent, BUT they got a Looonggg way to go" or some bullshit like that.

I have not read one positive article about any aspect of this team, except Joe Thomas was ranked in the top 30 for last season...

I have 2 questions: 1) Does the media (including Cleveland media) only look for negative things to write about the Browns? or 2) Do we always have such dumb players, and undisciplined coaches? or 3) Is there really a curse???

There is no curse, just media & some fans who are unable, or unwilling, to look forward in a positive manner. I guess it's easier to dwell in the past.

I get really bugged at listening to NFL Network hyping the Dolphins, et all for their outstanding off season moves, yet I have not ONCE heard them give kudos to the Browns for doing more to strengthen their Coaching Staff than any other team in the NFL. I'm just looking forward to the season ahead & watching a different brand of football than we have seen in Cleveland for a very long time. I fully expect to see some very surprised critics.

  • Can anyone name a team who has sucked so bad for so long, and that team be the laughing stock of an entire sport, and then that team turn it around relatively quickly winning a championship?

    Amazing Mets 1969

    St. Louis Rams 1999

Teams that almost did it include 77 Sixer's and the Rays of a few years ago. The Braves of 1991 were a remarkable turnaround only to be beaten by the Twins who were also worst to first that year.

Punchlines doing well presently include the Pirates and Clippers.

The Whit Sox toiled for about 100 years before winning in 06.

  • only one thing can change the media's negative coverage of the Browns......winning.

look for the coverage to change Sept 8 after the Dolphins game

    Yes, I can.

Lets start with the NY Mets going from 120 losses to World Champions in 7 seasons.

The Saints were laughing stocks for decades.

The Patriots were actually the most pathetic team in the league in the early 90s...then first with Parcells then with Belichick became perhaps the best team.

Actually, with the Patriots, they were 5-11 in 2000....and SB Champs in 2001.

Same with the Rams. In 1998 they were 4-12, 1999 SB Champs.

The Kansas City A's in the 1960s were the worst team in baseball....but they made some good acquisitions and by the early 70s they were a dynasty in Oakland.

I am sure there are a number of other examples.

I think most people who report on the Browns are somewhat fans themselves. They're like us: after a while it's easy to just find whats wrong with the team because "having talent" doesn't mean crap. The funny thing about football is there's always 3-4 teams that come out of nowhere to make the playoffs. Colts, Vikings, Seahawks and Skins all fit that from last season. Also, very rarely does the "best" pre-season team win the whole thing.

The bottom line with Haslam is even if shit hits the fan, he gave us some good FA pieces, took steps to make us better and hired a good coaching staff. At least the guy didn't shrew the money and stick the Browns.

  • Winning cures a lot of ills.

  • there IS too much negativity about everything we see or hear in this country. i think it started with the world wars. you couldn't get a minute into the national news without getting splashed with some war footage of blood and decay. even now it's hard to find anything GOOD with the news until the final 3 minutes where they throw in their fluff piece.

That's great... I just hope we win win some games. Training camp can't come soon enough.

  • this just in...more fucked up Browns analysis

And the hits keep coming. Nothing we didn't already know, but still looks bad in the rest of the country.

Agreed, but it is hard to win with off-the-field distractions, players getting suspended, injuries, and a constant aura of negativity surrounding this franchise. There is no culture of winning here. I think something needs to change off-the-field in order for winning to happen, not the other way around. Some sort of change... Not sure what though, and I'm kinda glad it's not my job to figure that out.
