  • Who the hell are we playing?

Bet Weeden gets more than a series since he's a little less than a starter (!). He needs the work. Give him a few series, coach.

Anyone else buy the NFL Preseason Live? I love watching on the iPad. Better to let it get ahead a ways and speed through the crap.

  • This has been one of my complaints for years, especially the last few: It seems that this team's coaches NEVER have this team ready to play when the season starts.....and I blame it partially on the failure of the starters on this team from seeing enough live actions reps. I mean, BW3 last year was unprepared to start that Philly game (or, more properly....Pat Shurmur was unprepared)

Put the QB and WR in these preseason games long enough to actually learn to play together.

I know you to evaluate the guys that are going to be #s 45-53 on this roster......but how about paying a little more attention to the guys that are going to be #s 1-22?

  • Preseason protocol. Don't want the starters to get hurt now

  • I blame last year on Schurmer. The guy is the worst head coach EVER. He will NEVER be a head coach again.

  • I agree. I'm not sure what the answer is and I know injuries are CLEARLY a huge concern... but the gap between Haves and Have Nots gets wider (like in America) because the Have Nots are always holding tryouts while the Haves are expanding the Continuity Gap, if you will.

Especially at QB, you need to go against your inclination to stage competitions, even if it makes sense in the real world. In Planet Football, you chose your guy when you drafted him. With Weeden? Give him the job. Period. Give him most of the reps. Campbell is a veteran who shouldn't need many to be ready if Weeden gets injured.

Then stay in the same system with the same head coach for a while. That's why I'm glad we changed to a 3-4 and got away from the old fashioned WCO (that used to seem so clevah): It was inevitable.

  • I agree with stay with the same head coach for awhile.

  • Weeds needs all the live fire he can get. let him play a half

  • I'd let Weeden play the entire preseason, every snap. He's 30 years old, he either holds up and learns well enough to light it up this year or he can't make it through 4 preseason games and it's the next man up, time to man up coach. Make these guys man up for the city of Cleveland, it's time to put up or shut up.

  • as long as the o-line 1st team is in, Weeden should be in

  • I'd say how much the #1 offense plays depends on their ability to sustain a drive. TRich gets 1 series, Gordon gets 1 series, but Weeden should play anywhere between 1-4 series. If the offense can take the ball downfield and score a TD in the opening drive, take them out. If he struggles, keep him in and let him get into a rhythm. He is a slow starter to begin with, so might as well give him a couple chances to get going...

  • The Browns, and for that matter the media and fans all have created a loser's culture. At one time in history, the Browns were a Bad Ass team and like Cowher's blitzburgh, played like men, not like todays effeminate millenial aged men.

Rest the starters so they don't get hurt, eh? Yes, don't risk anything in life, and THEN, expect to win?

If ever there WAS a time to play starters it is in preseason. Let them get conditioned, let them beat up on weaker players. Let them go into the season with momentum and confidence. Instead? Just play the guys sparingly and let them hit opening day, when it really gets vigorous, having very little playing time at a high intensity.Oh, yeah, this is great football strategy.

I am happy to have Browns football back, but it seems to me Brownstown should be renamed to "I am skeert shitless town". A smart coach would have the veterans blasting on all four cylinders and motivating everyone to hit like a maa faaka. The funniest thing in all of the faggot-shyness is to realize that most injuries don't come on big viscious hits, but instead in the most routine of tasks. Not playing guys will only lead to more injuries.

This is why the Browns remain one of the more injured teams. They play to not risk anything. This kind of strategy is sickening.

...to be fair, just about every team in the NFL uses this strategy but it would be nice if the Browns broke that mold and let the cards fly this preseason.

  • Believe I saw somewhere that Chud said the Starters are only playing 1 Quarter.

  • Have to balance between injury risk and experience and talent evaluation.

1 Qtr for the starters in Pre-1 is the way to go. Backups in Q2... Use the 2nd half is to see if can detect any spark among the long-shot "scrubs".

One thing I would do with Wheezy after he is done for the nite is send him up into the booth. Make him think about play calls and make him read the pre-snap Defense in lieu of holding a clip board on the sideline.

I bought the preseason package last year as I was on the road. This year I think I'll record the replays.

I'd be very surprised if they played an entire quarter
  • Oh... and I am actually psyched for the Pre-season this year.

Actually watched, and pretty much enjoyed, the entire HOF game. Thought the quality of the game was pretty good considering how early it came. Running games were clearly ahead of the D's which were way ahead of the passing games.

Game was also well officiated (apart from one phantom "blow-to-the-head" call on a sliding QB... sigh) and there were surprisingly few penalties.

  • no one still answered the original question which was who do we play.

and if you blame last year on pat shumur, why not put the ultimate blame on the fat fuck that hired him?

  • you're obviously on the internet. how can you not know or find out who they are playing?

I Like your thinking. When he's not in there, let him see those opposing defenses from above.

You hit the nail on the head with the Shurmer being unprepared statement...the whole situation with being an effective HC and preparing his team for a game was way over his head; so yes the blame goes to him and those that hired him...a complete waste of time for our franchise and very frustrating

I like thus far the way this new HC and FO crew are going about their (our) business and the proof will be gametime; as such I am really looking forward to getting this underway
