Why Do Some People Hype Up Hoyer?

  • I don't wanna expose a QB to 200 runs a year either. Here and there, like Chud did with Cam, that's cool. It's best for turning a broken pocket into an 8-yard gain, which Aaron Rodgers does so well (and now Tannehill).

But most of these guys we're talking about are passers who can run (Bridgewater, Hundley, and Boyd especially). Yeah, Manziel runs around a lot and so does Mariota, but any coach who isn't Chip Kelly is going to take care of his guy.

I think RG3 is gonna be fine. He'll run less but the kid has insane arm talent, too. And every single intangible you could ever dream of, really. He was better than Luck last year and I think he'll be better than Luck over the long haul, too. I like Luck... but I think he's a bit overrated.

I have a gut feeling rg3 is going down early and a lot of people will look at him and wonder what might have been.

  • I hope not (about RG3). Great kid, great leader, great competitor... one of the good guys. Ditto for Luck.

  • very talented but has made bad PR decisions which makes him come off as a diva. has his brother and father talking shit to the media. does the worse subway commercials and was all that anyone talked about preseason.

just keep your mouth shut and do your freakin job. believe me washington has more problems than their QB play. someone tell me again how once you draft your franchise QB how you automatically make it to the superbowl?

washington will be lucky to win more games than the browns this year.

btw, anyone see the new home page here? doesn't that photo of hoyer sorta remind you of kaepernik? (yeahi know it's a stretch but give a dude something to cling to!)

and to the question why is everyone hyping up hoyer......who else is there to hype up? we got thomas mack haden gordon some good DE talent other than that who do we have to 'hype' up?

  • The QB draft class looks good. I'm not much of a fan for breaking the bank on these running QBs. It hasn't worked out well for the Redskins. I can understand trading some picks for a big pocket passes, but it's too dangerous to spend the majority of picks on a scrambler that will more than likely get injured.

Depending on our draft pick, i'd rather just take what's available at QB. Hopefully Hoyer lights it up and we don't need to worry about drafting a QB so high. I'm just hoping to see improvement on his mistakes. But I liked what I saw out of him.

Key distinction for me is "running QB" vs. "QB that can run". Hate the former; love the latter... and the latter group is where I would place "scramblers".

Running was integral to RG3's college performance and now, it appears, to his NFL effectiveness. Clearly neither he nor the WSH Staff has been comfortable with him running so far this season. Ditto for different reasons Kaepernick...

Agree... I think he's coming off as arrogant. And what was up with that comment on the sliding rule.. not to mention the fact that this great athelete somehow cannot baseball slide.

His speed was enough to keep him from harm at the collegiate level. Tain't so at the Pro level. Mr. Ngata made that abundantly clear. RG3 may turn out to be the best deal we never made.

I like this distinction and it's why I have Bridgewater & Boyd as #1,2 then everybody else as distant #3 and beyond.

Again, heres hoping Hoyer takes care of business and the Browns are finally out of the QB search. 😒

  • Yeah, some people have this notion that Tajh is a runner because he's black and built like a RB. He's a passer, not really that blazing fast. Mariota and Hundley are both faster.

Tajh has a huge arm, quick release, and is a quality kid regarded as a locker room plus. I think when the dust clears, he'll be right up there in the top 10.

Also because he runs? Ran at least 5 times in the half I watched him this past weekend... and they were designed runs...

Then again a look at his run stats says he not a good runner...

Just struck me thay he's McNabb-ish...

But you are right... he's not that fast...

    Oh and back on topic...

How many does Hoyer have to win before it's no longer "hype"???

  • Hoyer might not be the answer.

But as of today he's way better than BW.

  • Dude has 3 NFL starts and has 2 wins. Let's give the kid, oh I don't know, 5 games before we say he isn't the answer.

  • What I really like about Hoyer is he doesn't get flustered. He keeps coming back and doing his job when it counts.

  • Blah blah blah. Here we go Brownies here we go!

  • Hey hopefully the kid keeps building on his skills everyweek and then come the draft we can spend our 2 first rounders on something other than a Qb.

And maybe we can start filling holes and adding depth for once.

    (fingers crossed)

  • Hoyer had a QB Rating of 103.9 for this game.

    Can't complain about that.

I did not say he is not the answer. I said that he might not be the answer, and that is exactly for the same reason you say give him time and we'll see.

  • Hoyer had a QB Rating of 103.9 for this game.

    Can't complain about that.

    He played very well today.

    I agree.

But let's give him, oh I don't know, 5 games before we say that he is.

He looked solid today yet again. Fewer mistakes. Clean throws. Quick release. It did seem like was hanging on to the ball a little longer in the second and third quarters but I'm going to have to go back and watch it to see why.

All in all, he's not a world beater (yet?) but he's no schlub. I can see why Lombardi likes him, but I still fail to see why he hadn't landed a starting gig until this point. He was unemployed for a bulk of the NFL season last year and the Cardinals then chose to keep Lindley instead of him.

I hope everyone else just has missed the boat on Hoyer, but he may be exactly what we need at this point...a smart game manager with enough arm and experience in the NFL. Our defense is finally becoming what we have been wishing for over the last 12 years and our playcalling is exciting and far from conservative.

This could be a fun year.

thank you. thank you. thank you.

how about oh let's say fixing the fucking OL and adding depth if not another starting CB across from haden (even though skrine did play well today) in the defensive back field. oh and sammy watkins would be nice.

    no particular order.

  • Hoyer is 2-0 with 2 totally man-up, sack-up fourth quarter drives. So far, the guy's his best on third downs and in the fourth quarter.

  • And I would also give credit to our coaching staff for the excellent playcalling.
