Game Impressions Week 8: Browns at Chiefs

The Browns Board

  • Browns need to retire the number 15.

Bess with two major fuck ups but you can't blame him for the defense getting carved up like a pumpkin in the first half.

Campbell was mediocre but still looked like Tom Brady compared to Weeden.

Mediocre is a bit unfair. QBR of 106 isn't mediocre. I can think of three key plays that could've led to a Browns win, and they were completely on us. First, the drive-killing holding penalty on Joe Thomas and brought back a nice run. Then of course the muffed punt, and lastly, the failure to convert due to Bess's failure at the end of the game.
  • They weren't the superior team. They haven't beaten anybody with a winning record all year, we have.

Bess fucking killed us, how do you fumble a punt without being touched? I would have caught that last pass. Just sickening.

Another win turned into a loss.

    Zombo

  • Bottom line, we had them on their heels, forcing the punt which would set us up for the game winning drive...D did it's job, Bess fucked us over with his fumble. Game, set, match.

I do not understand why we consistently field players who cannot catch the ball. And, really, you put one such player back to receive a critical punt. Please Chud, explain that decision to the fan base of Cleveland.

Fozzy is showing some flash, give him the damn ball already!

Overall a good effort against a superior team.

And no room for the "we never adjust" calls this week. Clearly we did so on both sides of the ball at half time. We had them on the ropes in the seond half.

If by excellent you mean serviceable, then I agree...

Campbell was mediocre at best... which of course means he is the best healthy QB on our roster. Barring injury he is our starter the rest of 2013.

I understand that you would rather have McCoy at QB, but Campbell had an excellent day.

LOL... I was a McCoy fan to be sure, but that was a while ago. And given that it was Colt or DelHomme/ Wallace and then Colt or Wheezy... I stand by my choice. But when Colt got his last shot with us, I got over him.

For all the bitching around here about Bess, there's no recognition of the number of great efforts made to pull in some pretty bad passes. Cameron's twisting/ falling gem heading up the list.

Cam turned intially looking for the ball over his outside shoulder... ended up catching it around his knees on the inside.

He was out of sync with Bess all day...

He overthrew Gordon early... and underthrew him on the flea-flicker.

His best passes were all short and mostly over the middle...

    the zig out to Cam..

the cross to Gordon... (loved this one so much he tried it again on the games final play... a brilliant choice seeing as how we needed 40 yards and had no time outs... it was good for 10... GAME OVER)

    the swing to Fozzy...

What was the YAC for these three alone? 80 yards?

He zipped three passes total that I can recall. Two were incomplete.. the third was a very nice curl in to Gordon.

I will have to review the recording to see how many completions were to receivers that were now his primary. Can't recall a single one off-hand. He did look off the Safety a couple times... a concept foreign to Wheezy.

He also had a decent clock in his head. Got away from a couple rushes... not very fast in doing so, but got out. But once he pulled it down I don't remember him completing a single pass.

I repeat... he was mediocre... serviceable at best... which is an improvement over Wheezy. And in Jason's case, it may be rust.

But you're right ... stat lines tell all..

It's not just an improvement over Weetarded...it's a huge improvement and the difference between being in the game late with a chance to win against a good team and getting our asses handed to us.

If this was hoyer people woukd be putting him in the hall. Based on small sample sizes this year our qb depth chart should go : Campbell, hoyer , weeden

  • CLE should have no problem beating JAC now, with a competent QB. They could now steal a game from the faltering Steelers, too.

same here. at times this season watching weeden play i would have wanted to colt in there (if still on the roster).

yeah campbell is no aaron rodgers (anyone just see that td pass, holy shit!) but he's all we got now and until the end of the season. i'll give him props all day long. he didn't have any screw-ups and he sure as hell didn't lose the game for us.

Did you watch his final two series? The guy completely folded under pressure...the ball he chucked into the stands should have been grounding... the pass that Bess dropped was for a first down...not a game winner, yes he should have caught it but it was a shit pass that was under thrown, sorry but to me he looked very Weedtarded at times...Campbell is a finger in the dyke not the long term fix

  • Throwing a fourth down pass across your body and across the field that lands in one one of your receivers hands past the first down marker is not Weetarded.

Throwing a first down shovel pass up for grabs is Weetarded.

I thought Campbell played well today. He still a competent QB and can win some games for us.

Stopgap, yes. But a much, much, much better stopgap than the Weetard.

    Zombo

  • Golden Boy Joe Thomas didn't help us any either. How is Campell suppose to do anything when Thomas is getting called for holding on every freaking play?

I not only watched the game, I was there- and ditto that for every one of Weeden's sucky efforts. Campbell is freaking Tom Brady compared to Weeden. Barring injury, We-don't need you has played his last snap for the Browns- he would have gotten sacked 10 times minimum against KC.

I know a lot of folks want to put the goat horns on Bess- and deservedly so- But hey Coach Horton- you're getting killed the entire first half on short stuff- it took you until halftime to figure that out?
