Could the Browns still take a chance on Tebow?
-
My reasoning is simple.
He has more wins than Weeden.
He has more TD's than Weeden.
He has less INT's than Weeden.
He has more playoff experience than Weeden.
He has more media appeal than Weeden.
He sells more jerseys than Weeden.
He isn't Brandon Weeden.
Of his 9 wins, 7 have been fourth quarter or late game comebacks. His 2nd half rating is in the 90s.
He has a horseshoe up his ass and good things seem to happen with him around, which is the complete opposite of anyone who's worn a Browns jersey in the last 25 years.
If Campbell goes down, why go back to the guy who's won us exactly zero games as a starter this season? What has Weeden shown to make you want to dip back into that experiment again?
Red In the eyes of Browns fans, that would apply to any other qb in the NFL. So Tebow has a nice TD\Interception ratio, and a playoff win against the Steelers. Doesn't make up for the fact the rest of the time he can't hit the broadside of a barn with his passes, and his mechanics are still a mess. Jets released him, NE cut him, the Rams didn't want him after Bradford blew out his knee. Three strikes and you're out. Campbell gets hurt- let Gray or Edwards run the show- the season's over, why waste time and money bringing the circus into town?

The circus sells tickets, which puts more money in Jimmy's pockets, which, under the new CBA, means more money into the Browns.
I'm fine with that. If we're gonna lose, which we will, I'd rather us make money.
And if you guys are so tired of reading Tenow posts, why click on the thread that is about Tebow? What did you expect to read?

3rd string QB = Armonti Edwards.

The circus also tears apart teams... not BoBo vs. Wheezy... BoBo vs. Campbell...
Fan base and team would ultimately split first time Campbell stumbles.
Even the BoBo in your eyes is not worth that...

we would seriously rather see armonti and gray over Tebow? I couldn't stand Tebow in college and don't really like him now but if there's absolutely nobody else I'd rather see him than what we currently have. He won't come here anyway cause he knows even if he gets us into the playoffs he won't beat out Hoyer or Campbell in camp next year....or even the noob we draft. We just have to sign somebody, that's all there is to it. Campbell's gonna take off running again and teams KNOW if they can knock campbell out of the game the browns players all will deflate. On both sides of the ball. O and D players both will collectively mumble the word fuck if Campbell goes down cause they know what's comin.

Wanting tebow as your quarterback when no nfl or half of the Cfl wants him= credibility never really there to begin with

Do you think there's a team in the NFL that would take Weeden after seeing him perform?
Most of the NFL didn't want Colt McCoy either.
We seem to have a thing for bottom barrel quarterbacks.

Har, har. Tebow will sell tickets? You kidding me? Maybe at a Evangelical Revival. First Energy is essentially sold out, save the cheap seats. You should know better than that- gameday ticket sales are only a small portion of an owners revenue. The big bucks come through TV revenue- to the tune of Directv shelling out something like $4 billion for the exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket, networks are probably even more than that, though I'm too lazy to look it up. Haslam probably makes more money in beer sales during a game than he would if the Tebow lovers flocked out to buy up the few thousand remaining tickets.
Pretty much been conclusively proven Tebow isn't an NFL caliber quarterback- can you say that about Edwards or Gray? So why not give them a shot, if Campbell gets hurt?
-
of course he isn't an NFL qb, we're not talking about bringing him in to seriously compete with campell and hoyer next year. But if he's out there and Campell goes down, at least Tebow can do "some" things on the field that our other guys likely cannot. Until I see those other guys throw the ball I'm gonna assume that they're not a whole lot better than tebow given that their main position in the league isn't qb. Tebow has at least practiced as a qb. And yes I would absolutely rather see him at this point than weeden. I know weeden can throw the ball better but I don't care. weeden will make some spectacular throws, I get it. I just can't take his bad ones anymore. I'd rather see Tebow short hop balls to the receivers than see Weeden rifle a ball at a guys face from 10 yds away and see the defense go into tip drill mode. I can't take it anymore.

I'm not only talking about ticket sales. Everything is connected.
Tebow has never fallen lower than top 15 in jersey sales in his entire NFL career, no matter where he plays or if he plays.
Everyone is so caught up with the Christian aspect (which is overemphasized by the media, not Tebow), that you're failing to realize this could be a good step for the organization as a whole.
If Campbell goes down, we're losing out no matter who is at the helm. Why not bring in the guy that will make the franchise more money, get them more national exposure, and get fans more excited in the team?
A few seasons ago, Coastal Carolina University fired their coach; the only coach in the history of their football program, a guy beloved in the community who got them four Big South Championships in seven years. They brought in Joe Moglia, former CEO of TD Ameritrade and a veritable coaching rookie. Moglia had never been a head coach at the college level and was a head coach in the AFL only because he bought the entire team and gave himself the job. By essentially giving him full control of the team both monetarily and managerial, they've been able to reallocate their football funds toward making the campus larger by adding new buildings, new stadiums, more dorms and more parking. Because the school is now newer and better, more recruits want to come to Coastal. Because they are getting better recruits, their team is better. They are now ranked Top 3 in the FCS.
Sometimes the best move for your team makes little to zero sense on the field.
If Tebow brought in a modest 5% merchandise sales spike and 5% ticket sales spike, that would bring in massive amounts of money for the program.
In a typical year, a team will make roughly $5 million off merchandise sales, with nearly half of that figure coming from the jerseys of their top two franchise players. Assuming a 5% spike, that would give us another $250,000 of money that Haslam will have to pump back into the franchise.
In 2011 (the latest figures I could find), the Browns total attendance for the year was 526,874. Once again assuming a 5% spike, that figure would jump up 26,344 people, or about 3,300 per home game. At $60.00 per ticket, that would see an increased profit of $1,580,640.
TV revenue sharing, concession sales, and advertising aside, that's a quick 1.5 mill just from having him on the roster.
Obviously, there are many cons. Namely, he's an awful NFL QB. But so is Weeden and so is every other QB that will be available should Campbell go down. At least this awful QB would have a decent little return on him.
-
I don't disagree at all. I'd bring him in as well to be the backup. He's a better option than anything we have on the roster behind Weeden. No one wants to see Weeden playing QB for the Browns like ever again so why not should Campbell go down and any hope for the season would go down as well, have a guy like Tebow who is at least entertaining and we might win a game or two. Not to mention as TCPO says....it would be better for the Browns organization in terms of revenue to the team.
Should Campbell get hurt, I'd rather watch Tebow do Tebow things (some good, most awful) than watching anything that Weeden has to offer.
-
The problem I have is, this team has done well with Campbell and hoyer essentially being game managers. We aren't good enough yet to overcome bad QB play - as shown by Weeden. We just need a guy to come in and not throw the game away. Tebow isn't going to be that guy. He might win a game or two unexpectedly, but he'll also lose a load we could have won.

Right. But if Campbell gets hurt, our only option is Weeden, who's proven that he's not a game manager.
There isn't a game manager available in FA, save for the Thig. And he looks fat, I saw him a couple weeks ago.

If Campbell goes down the season is shot anyways. I want nothing to do with Weeden under center for the Browns ever again. Tebow sucks but he's going to be more fun to watch than Weeden throwing 5 yard passes 5000000000 miles per hour at the receivers.
We aren't going to win any games with Wheezy anyways and Tebow is a better QB than either of the other two "emergency QB's" we have on the roster so why not have him around just in case Campbell goes down.
-
We're talking about if Campbell goes down with an injury. Not today.
And if he went down in Week 16 with us on the doorstep of the playoffs?
Sorry, TC... just don't see it...

I wasn't suggesting Weeden is a competent game manager. He's barely a competent helmet-wearer. But I just don't buy Tebow coming riding to the rescue, or in fact selling more merch - I think with Cameron we have the merch-monkey.

and WTF does any of this have to do with tebow?
you are out of your mind.
like everybody else has said, how campbell goes, we go. if he plays good enough to win we might have a shot at the playoffs, since everyone else in the AFC seems to suck as bad as we do. we've got other guys on our roster besides weeden to back him up. but yes if campbell goes down, weeden will play. that's it, no discussion. yeah we might not make the playoffs with or without campbell but it has absolutely nothing to do with signing ANOTHER QB. especially the trinity of tebow.
fuck him and anyone that likes him.
and to all your bible thumpers: wouldn't a 'child of god' want to help 'his' team anyway he could? wouldn't he be thankful for any opportunity to play in this league even if it means changing position?
BUT NO>
it's all about tim tebow. me. me. me. fucking phony antichrist motherfucker. shave his head and i bet there is a 666 underneath his lid. and you all know what happens when you cross the antichrist:

I think you're overstating the financial aspect. If you're a Browns fan and rush out to buy a (obviously) one year rent-a-player's jersey- you're pretty damn stupid in my book. I'll stick by my contention if Campbel gets hurt- it's either Wee-done, or one of the emergency quarterbacks. Tebow isn't coming here- no way in hell.
Sure, Weeden is gone as soon as the season is over- but he at least knows Chuds system- too bad he's so limited on the field, he can't execute it.
