The question is whether or not he could bring depth to the DB that is superior to what we have back there. OK, Ward/Gipson are playing well. But what is behind them? Bademosi, yes, ...but then we have someone called Jordan Poyer???? Who?

Ed Reed is not going to sign with the Browns to back up Tashaun Gipson.

Ed Reed is not going to sign with the Browns.

The Browns are not going sign Ed Reed.

This team's need for a 35-year-old safety rests at Zero on the need-o-meter.

OK, so, I take it you are on the Jordan Poyer fan club list?

If he is under 35 and willing to be a backup ... I am totally in Poyer's corner.

  • Agree. His leadership skills could help our group.

Besides, it looks like we have some guys that could demoted to PS to make a spot for Reed:

    Darius Eubanks?

    Brandon McGee?

    Brian Tyms?

    Eric Martin?

Hell these are names I have not even heard of. Where did we get these guys. PS for one of them.

Besides, coming here might be a chance for Reed to dig a knife into his old team. Perhaps he would like that?

Ask Vagitron...he probably knows them like he knows everything else LOL

I'm under 35 and am willing to run around a bit in order to make the league minimum $400k per year, or whatever it is?

OK, the guy doing the job now was an All Pac-10 and All-American cornerback.

He's not super fast, but he's athletic and a ballhawk, so makes an ideal safety prospect.

If your resume matches up, then I would also take you over Ed Reed.

  • Did the UDFA who scored a touchdown on a fake kick get hurt? He had a terrific preseason, made the regular roster, even played some. I think he sort of nudged Bademosi down the line. Shawn something?

Do you mean Poyer? (doesn't his name like mean "Hawaiian grits" or something?)

Yeah, he got hurt, out for year, that's when they picked up Poyer who was an eagles 7th rounder.

Yeah, Poyer was an excellent college corner, but too slow to play the position in the NFL. Might make it as a safety.

He went to Oregon St. ... I'm surprised Lumbergh has stopped by to sing his praises.

--Coach? We have a defensive backs coach with 18 years NFL coaching experience hand picked by Horton ....so .... what exactly does everybody want Ed Reed to do?

With the high possibility of Horton moving on to be a HC somewhere, it's not beyond the realms of possibilities that our DB coach with 18 years of experience moves on to being our DC, which would give us a hole to fill there.

you really think that he would be promoted next year to DC if we were to pick him up right now as a 'mentor'. that would be the dumbest thing i've ever heard of.

cuz at this point in his career he's got no gas left in the tank.

  • Whata career tho. Ray Lewis needs to realize he is not as good on the field without ed reed!

Eric Martin is in the rotation at linebacker now that Groves is on IR.

I don't even know who McGee or Eubanks is ... but they are not 35 year old safeties that were just cut from an awful team.

No idea why anyone wants to bring in a 35 year old defensive back when our young secondary has been playing well.

    What about D.J. Swearinger?

    Who you ask?

The Houston SS that beat out Ed Reed.

    Neato.. 😉

Not at all - re-read my post, saying that if Horton goes, everyone moves up a level, DB coach becomes DC, and whoever underneath moves up, we have a hole to fill.

There really wouldn't be a need to move everybody up....all the position coaches are about equal. All we would need to do is replace the DB coach, Lou Cioffi. We would probably just promote asst DB coach Babbich and bring in some youngblood to fill a role.

Cioffi is who I think will replace Horton. The guy has 20 years experience and was with Horton in AZ for two years before heading over with Horton. If we want to keep the same D, then this is the guy. Only time will tell if it works out that way and if he is any good at making the calls.

In looking at the coaching staff, Cioffi is the only position coach other than strength who has an asst dedicated to that position, which leads me to believe Cioffi is a bit more involved with Horton and Chud in gameplanning the D....I hope so anyway. I like the D and if Horton gets his call this next season, which is likely, I want a seamless transition.

Yeah, that's basically the whole premise of what I was suggesting. DC goes, DB coach moves up, assistant DB coach moves up, some new guy comes in. Why not a hall of fame DB? Ok, not guaranteed to be a HOF coach, but worth a shot?

  • i got what you were saying chris, just don't think reed has the where-withall to go from on the field to on the sideline overnite nor do i know if he has the football accumen. sure he might be a hall of famer who could read a QBs eyes and get to the ball, but does that translate him being slated in as a DB coach or even an assistant DB coach? personally i don't think he has the brains.

he'll probably spend the off-season going to speech therapy and go to some network having some part a 'future hall of famer.......ed reed' come in and do 3 30 second sound bytes about what happened with this defensive play etc.
