The game?: Has to be the home opener in '46, our inaugural AAFC season. Old Muni was a massive stadium. Sat almost 80,000 and with SRO tix often reached over 86,000 for big games. No idea against who...

    2. Game lost by a 36-33 score. A pass was dropped that should have sealed victory. A coach elects go into prevent defense with a 17 point lead.

The game?: Our Pittsburgh pratfall with Holcomb at the helm...

    3. Largest Championship game rout win in Browns history.

The game?: The '50's game vs. the Lions where we put 50+ on them (was in last week's trivia).

    4. Browns win final game of the season on the road 24-20 to finish with 9-6-1 and win division title as opposed to the opponent finishing 9-7. Browns RB scores on a 4 yard run in final minute to win game.

The game?: I was at that game in the old Astrodome... so I'm guessing it was versus the Oliers... πŸ˜‰ ... Not exactly at the height of the AFC Central's prowess. A TD bomb to Slaughter stands out in my mind, but there was also a long run by Metcalf after a short pass, IIRC.

Also remember I had to pay the ridiculous price of $50 for a Club level seat right next to the broadcast booth on the 48 yard line...

    5. Browns lose next to last game of season on the road to opponent with poor record. A win would have ensured a playoff spot. Browns QB throws 4 interceptions in defeat.

    The game?: ???

    6. Browns win final game of the season on the road 27-24 to give them the division title. Victory came after game was tied on a late 4th quarter field goal. (Which kicker in the next game was denied an opportunity to do the same)

The game?: The denial part makes me think the kicker in question was Don Cockcroft. Sam nixed the FG attempt in favor of "Red Right 88". So the year was 1980, but no idea who we played last reg season game against.

    7. Browns lose chance to go to the Super Bowl by 27-7 score. Opponents gain 222 rushing yards, including 57 to the opposing QB.

The game?: Sounds like a late-60's Joe Kapp led Minnesota Vikings game I remember. Vikes had a bruising FB named BIll Brown. Kapp famously KO'd Browns LB Jim Houston in the game. Played outdoors on a truly frozen tundra, one Browns' DT (Walter Johnson, I think) almost lost a couple toes to frostbite.

    8. Browns win a playoff game 8-3 on just 2 FGs and a safety.

The game?: ??? Seems like was also just in last week's trivia.

    9. Two playoff games. Two years in a row. Both wins. Against the same opponent by 30-21 and 38-14 respectively. This was actually the third year in a row the Browns played this opponent, but in first game Browns lost badly.

The games?: Has to be the late-60's Cowboys. Pretty good rivalry there for a bit in our waning days in the NF(L/C). The last game is the one where the 'Boys kicker whiffed an on-side attempt late in the game and a Browns player (maybe Jim Houston) asked aloud on the field, "Can't you guys do anything right?"

    10. Lost postseason game 23-12. There were 3 HOF running backs on the field that day, one gained 105 yards, another 96 yards, the third only 50 yards.

The game?: Has to be our loss to the Packers in '65(?) with Kelly, Hornung and Taylor playing in a muddy Muni Stadium.

    11. Browns played opponent to a 33-33 tie in an early season game. But, ultimately that tie gave the Browns the margin needed to win the division title by 1/2 game over that same opponent.

The game?: Hmmm... so opponent tied 2 game that season, which was not uncommon once upon a time...

    12. Browns defeat what was thought to be an invincible opponent by a 35-10 score. They gained 346 yards passing and 141 yards rushing to tromp this team.

The game?: Sounds like inaugural NFL game against the Bednarik led Philly Eagles. The NFL Commissioner (Burt Bell?) personally saw to the scheduling the AAFC's best team at the defending NFL Champs to open the 1950 (?) season and teach us a lesson. πŸ˜›

Bonus: Browns outgain but fall short in 20-14 loss vs. a team that many consider the greatest in NFL history.

The game?: Sounds like the playoff game vs. the '72 Fins. We came close to denying that perfect season in spite of Phipps throwing a bunch of INTs. And with Phipps it was all downhill from there...

Gee, funny how that happens. πŸ˜‰ So? you don't remember?

    That's it, Check

Check....except, actually that game was played in Lambeau Field

The NFL Commissioner (Burt Bell?) personally saw to the scheduling the AAFC's best team at the defending NFL Champs to open the 1950 (?) season and teach us a lesson. πŸ˜›

A lesson, indeed, was taught. Check

    Check

Bob, you basically had the answers to the other two.....as far as the opponent is concerned, but you needed the year....because fyi, the Browns have played the Giants more than once in the playoffs, and FYI, the Browns and Cardinals played to 3 different ties in their games against one another. (3 times...more than any other opponent)

Damn, I will guess 1965 on the St. Louis tie (and I did not know we have tied them the most of all opponents). I have witnessed 2 ties in person at the old stadium (Chargers in 1973, Chiefs 1989).

Yes, I know about our playoff battles with the NYG, but since it's well before my time, I'm guessing 1957.

    Love the trivia, it's fun.

    Close enough....it was 1964

BUZZZZ, wrong one. This was the 1950 playoff game, just before the Browns beat the Rams in the 1950 playoffs.

They also played the Giants in 1958, and lost 10-0. That was the game from the prior trivia.

    Love the trivia, it's fun.

    ============================================

We always see that old footage of a muddy Hornung Packer sweeping left for a TD in every Packer/ Lombardi program...

Footage was shot in old Muni and I always thought it was from this game.

    Now I know different...

  • With the talk of the upcoming Bengals game being perhaps their biggest game in several years, here is a set of Trivia about games that, supposedly, are very Big in Browns history. I will give some details about the particular game, you say who the opponent/year is:

The game?: 56-10 over the Lions in 1954...I was 8 years old & already a Browns Fan for life.

I think all the others were answered, but I knew this one. The hell of it is that the Lions stomped the Browns by a similar score in the '58 Championship, if memory serves.
