Browns Made Offer to Scott Tolzien - New GB Starting QB
-
Well, they're darn lucky they promoted him as Seneca got hurt in the first drive today, never to return.
Tolzien did okay. He threw a couple of picks, but he did quite well overall. MM said he even executed plays that he had never practiced, and that he would start against the Giants next week.
The D played like crap. Total crap. I've rarely seen McCarthy angry, but he was visably pissed off in his presser.
Oh, and as usual, the Pack lost more than just Seneca. Also lost Hayward (again), Perry (again), Jolly, and Barclay. No idea how severe any of the injuries are, but some did not look good.
Matthews was non-existant with his 'club'.
I don't know what they'll do about a back up QB now, and I'm feeling quite pissy about the whole thing.

My room mate is an eagles fan so I watched the game. It seemed like it was there for the taking, but you guys just kept shooting yourself in the foot at every opportunity. Like the goal line pick. A 91-yard drive that was negated by the big interception and return. The missed FGs. The forced fumble, recovered, then a three-and-out and a missed FG really stung. It just didn't seem like the packers playing. Partly because it wasn't, really, with all the injuries.
Still, Tolzien looked passable, though he got bailed out by his receivers a couple of times, and when they couldn't he got picked off. A project, but a decent one.

I totally agree with everything you said. *So Frustrating*
The O came to play (uh, as best they could), but the D....esp. the secondary was abysmal.

I have a feeling that there are going to be a few uncomfortable meetings later today.
I also think there's a reason Tolzien is here. He managed the huddle really well, REALLY well for someone who was on the PS last week and not a blip on the radar. He might have an arm. Since I personally feel that our hopes are rather dashed, it could be fun to watch him grow.
Oh my. McCarthy continues to become more pissed off. Good! If you're bored:
The Browns need to keep it up so I have something interesting to follow (grief management...lol!)

I think McCarthy had seen about all he wanted to see out of Seneca. If he had not been hurt, I suspect that McCarthy would have replaced him at QB in that game anyway. As is, circumstances dictated that he didn't have to remove Seneca, an injury did it for him, and McCarthy now says that Tolzien will start...regardless of Wallace's health. The proper move for the sake of you Packer fans.

I was impressed with Tolzien in the first half. He had control of the huddle, threw the ball accurately, and called a couple of successful audibles. He has a grasp on that playbook and understands how and why plays work. His interception in the endzone was just him not being acclimated to the speed of NFL DB's. In college, that's a touchdown.
The second half, I didn't see. I hear it was bad, however.

I saw it off and on during the 2nd half and while it wasn't great, it wasn't Weeden bad though.

The D was Weeden bad.

I watched the entire game and I don't remember the name of a single GB defender, except Matthews, who played like a guy with a seal on his hand, not a club. See what I did there?

Thank goodness CLE didn't pursue this further...
